WIW: not quite light blue & black

I saw Angie's ensemble post after I got home from work this evening. What I wore was close enough that I thought I'd share it anyway. I will have to think about whether I can do the outfit more deliberately; I'll have to see if I have light blue that I can work with.

The other look is from another day this week. . .

The outfits:
1-2 (worn to work): Black knit harem pants (Eileen Fisher); blues, black, sage, and cream reptile print silk tee (made by me); medium wash denim jacket (AG, Robyn); black and white reptile print sneakers (Mephisto, Yael), black satchel (not pictured, Elliott Lucca, Olvera).
If I weren't wearing the jacket, you would see more of the cream color in the top. There is a range of blues in the top, from aqua to denim to navy.

3-4 (worn to teach sewing classes): Navy ankle chinos (Caslon); mauve floral tee (made by me); taupe shredded knit cashmere shrug (made by me); pewter cutout belt (Fossil); pewter suede high-top sneakers (Paul Green).

Thanks for looking! I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

WIW: arty, sporty tomboy

I wanted to wear this black and gray striped tee today, because it can double as my workout top for Pilates. Usually I'd wear a cardigan over it, but I wanted to wear something a little different than the usual short or long classic cardigan. I decided to try my black cocoon shrug, made of fabric with intentional holes in the outer layer.  And I added my piano-wire necklace; I like the way the links echo the shape of the holes in the shrug. The outfit felt good for my errands and hanging out; it seems to have just the right amount of quirkiness for me.

The outfit (worn for a day off):
Medium wash boyfriend jeans (Fidelity); gray and black striped long-sleeve tee (Caslon); black shredded-knit cocoon shrug (made by me); black belt; black and white snake print sneakers (Mephisto); piano-wire chain necklace and silver etched-spiral disk earrings; black packable raincoat (Cole Haan); espresso and black satchel (Joy Gryson, Natalie).

Thanks for looking! I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

WIW: purple and olive

My friend knit me a new cowl, and I had to wear it right away. Soon the weather may be too warm for it, or for the look. I created this outfit around this beautiful accessory.

The outfit (worn for work):
Purple heather zip-back 3/4-sleeved sweater (Halogen); purple heather eyelash knit cowl (handknit for me by a friend); sage wool tapered pants (made by me); pewter pave disc earrings (Lucky); gray shimmer oxfords (Naot, Kedma); mauve packable coat (Mycra-Pac); taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles).

Thanks for looking! Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

Picasso Challenge: The Dream

Picasso Challenge, day 5, painting 5, The Dream. . . .

The outfit (worn to work):
Sage empire waist sleeveless knit dress with high-low hem (Eileen Fisher), worn over sheer ivory dot-mesh knit tee (made by me); bright coral 3/4-sleeved cardigan (Halogen); gold shimmer nude fishnet tights (Commando); taupe cutout booties (Kork-Ease, Stina); green, brown, and blue stone (Jasper?) beaded necklaces (made by me); olive packable coat (Laundry by Shelli Segal); taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles).

I went for a sheer top and worked with the colors in the wall (or is it floor?) and chair. I added the beads to echo the woman's beads in the painting, and I found I really liked them with the outfit.

Photo 3 is my dreaming pose. :)

Picasso challenge: Young girl reading on the beach

This is my Picasso challenge, day 4, after painting 3: Young Girl Reading a Book on the Beach.

The outfit (worn for a day off):
Skinny medium wash ankle jeans (Lucky, Charlotte Rail); blue, gray, and white blurry print knit surplice top (made by me); jean jacket (AG, Robyn); greenish-gray belt (Fossil); gray shimmer oxfords (Naot, Kedma); olive packable jacket (Laundry by Shelli Segal); taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles).

I saved this painting for a day off, so I could wear jeans. I was going to wear a plain gray tee, and then I saw this top in my drawer and changed my mind. I thought it might be too bright, in a way, with all the white, but I really like how it presents a lot of the subtle colors in Picasso's painting. Today, the print resembles filtered sunlight on water, an effect that I had not noticed before.

Picasso challenge: Acrobat

I'm going through the pictures out of order. Today is day 3 for me, and I'm using the 4th painting, The Acrobat, as inspiration.

The outfit (worn to work):
Stone skinnies (Classiques Entier, City Weave Ankle Pants); purple and stone micro houndstooth cowl neck blouse (made by me); stone long cardi (Nic & Zoe); taupe cross-strap flats (Naot, Lan); mauve packable coat (Mycra-Pac); taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles).

I was going for the color scheme here, and I tried a pose to mimic the picture (aren't I a sport? ha ha!).

Picasso Challenge: Woman with Book

Picasso challenge day 2, inspired by the painting Woman with a Book.

The outfit (worn for a day off and to teach a private sewing lesson):
Wine corduroy skinnies (Eddie Bauer); ivory, red, and blue-gray chiffon peasant blouse (made by me) over wine cami (Shimera); blue and gray cardi knit with tiny fleur-de-lis pattern (Eddie Bauer); ivory cutout belt (Fossil); red earrings with silver flower design; denim flats with navy cap toe and tan belt (AGL), navy and tan satchel (Dooney & Bourke).
Option 1, with bright coral coat (Eddie Bauer). Option 2, with olive packable coat (Laundry by Shelli Segal).

I was trying to capture some of the color, the feminine feel, and a little of the boho style that I see in this image.
I'm unsure which coat I'll wear when I leave the house in a half hour. Leaning toward the coral for fun, though the olive is more what I would usually wear.

Picasso Challenge: Charnel House

The outfit (worn to work):
Gray, black, and white geometric print knit angled sleeveless tunic (made by me) over black layering tee (Tees by Tina); charcoal skinny pants (Halogen); white angled front cropped cardi (Nic & Zoe); black suede booties with gray cuff (Paul Green, Barbara).

I also tried the outfit with my charcoal long cardi (photos 3-4), which seems a more elegant, conventionally flattering look. But went with the white for a lighter look. I felt it reflected the picture more, and it feels more like spring.

WIW: the last few days

No real theme here, just a few outfits. Yesterday and today I wore my olive tall boots, happy to have some more chances to wear boots before spring. And the third outfit was on a warmer spring-like day.

The outfits:
1-2 (worn to work): charcoal skinny ankle pants (Classiques Entier, City Weave Ankle Pant); olive and black print silk broadcloth pullover blouse (Nexx); olive wool crinkle gauze drapey vest (made by me); olive distressed suede boots (Donald J. Pliner, Devi 3). Easy fall-back formula for me.

3-5 (worn for a day off): medium wash skinny ankle jeans (Lucky, Charlotte Rail); aqua high-low boxy merino sweater (Eileen Fisher) over ivory dot mesh knit tee (made by me); ivory, taupe, aqua, gray, and orange scarf (Asian Eye); olive distressed suede boots as above; olive packable coat (Laundry by Shelli Segal); taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles). Felt good in this outfit; loved the colors together.

6-7 (worn to work): mauve, gray and blue floral print crossover blouse (made by me); blue boyfriend chinos (Eddie Bauer); taupe cutout booties (Kork-Ease, Stina); taupe trench (Calvin Klein); taupe shoulder bag as above. I like the blouse and like how it coordinates with the pants. Not sure about the outfit.

Thanks for looking, and I welcome your thoughts and suggestions!

WIW: me too, playing with comfort shoes

I am inspired by Transcona Shannon's pursuit of style along with comfort shoes for foot issues. I have similar foot issues, and so I'm watching her posts with interest!

Today I'm following her lead in this post (okay, actually I got dressed before reading her post, but I was inspired to post mine now because of hers). And yesterday I tried the light cords again (worn here with a shorter sweater), but this time with a longer cardigan, which felt much more comfortable.

The outfits:
1-3 (worn for a day off): Dark boyfriend jeans (Kut from the Kloth, Catherine); green and pink tie-dye print tee (made by me); olive leather moto jacket (AllSaints, Hawks); mushroom nubuck cross-strap flats (Naot, Lan); taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles).

4-6 (worn for a day of training): stone cords (Patagonia, slim fit); denim blue tee with ruffle (made by me); cream and slate long cardi (Eddie Bauer); cream cutout belt (Fossil); gray shimmer oxfords (Naot, Kedma); green trench (Gallery); taupe bag as above.
