WIW: arty, sporty tomboy

I wanted to wear this black and gray striped tee today, because it can double as my workout top for Pilates. Usually I'd wear a cardigan over it, but I wanted to wear something a little different than the usual short or long classic cardigan. I decided to try my black cocoon shrug, made of fabric with intentional holes in the outer layer.  And I added my piano-wire necklace; I like the way the links echo the shape of the holes in the shrug. The outfit felt good for my errands and hanging out; it seems to have just the right amount of quirkiness for me.

The outfit (worn for a day off):
Medium wash boyfriend jeans (Fidelity); gray and black striped long-sleeve tee (Caslon); black shredded-knit cocoon shrug (made by me); black belt; black and white snake print sneakers (Mephisto); piano-wire chain necklace and silver etched-spiral disk earrings; black packable raincoat (Cole Haan); espresso and black satchel (Joy Gryson, Natalie).

Thanks for looking! I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

Oh, love the sneakers and how the mixed print/colors give Mephisto a whole new look. I know they are known for great comfort level and have been tempted to try, possibly for travel-walking shoes.

unfrumped, these shoes look to have the same basic design as the ballet flats that Angie posted today. They are made like running shoes inside. I can replace the insole with my Superfeet inserts, if I want a little firmer arch support.

Such a cohesive look! I marvel at your ability to attend to each detail in your outfit - yet the total effect is unstudied and natural.

Fantastic sneakers! I like the entire outfit, especially that gorgeous shrug.

I like it! The shrug shape is a great alternative to the classic cardigan.

Another brilliant look, Sharan. In addition to the details you've already mentioned, also love how the white in the sneakers subtly echoes the white in the top.

This is a lovely outfit.  I'm all for versatile clothes, such as your top, that can do double duty; that makes perfect sense to me.

Oh I like you in black! You don't wear it a lot.... it really suits you. Love the fine stripe of the top and the shrug. Good taste and flattering as always!

The sneakers are great - nice change with the texture look. I like the outfit overall, the only thing I paused at was the roll of the jeans. It seems off to me, esp. in back so I think I'd play with that more.

Brilliant!  I LOVE how you do casual.  Must track down those shoes to try on....

    Fabulous sporty casual look!

    Thanks, everyone!
Texstyle, I did notice the weird roll effect in the photos. Not sure what was going on, but I think I did adjust it. If not, I guess it's too late now! Ha ha!

Marlene, I got the shoes at the Northgate Nordstrom, from my shoe guy, Eric! He will fix you right up. :)

This is a great look:)  I struggle a bit personally with the whole sneaker look but you have really worked it and it looks so cool.  Love those jeans.  The whole outfit has such a cool, slouchy vibe about it.
