WIW: sweatdress & 2 other outfits

Last week I completed a dress from fabric and a pattern I got at the Sewing and Stitchery Expo the previous weekend. That might be a record for me getting something made up from my purchases at the annual Expo. I wore the dress to work yesterday and wanted to show you all here. The other outfits are less exciting to me, but they're included here in the interest of documenting where I am with my style.

The outfits:
1-3 (worn to work): denim heather sweatshirt dress (made by me); navy tights; taupe cutout booties (Kork-Ease, Stina); blue and white arty earrings (local craft, gift from DH); olive leather moto jacket (AllSaints, Hawks); taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles). Felt pretty good in my new sweatdress!

4-5 (worn to work): brown and white scroll print burnout knit tunic (made by me); brown wool cropped pants (made by me); mushroom nubuck ballet flats with cross straps (Naot, Lan); olive moto jacket and taupe shoulder bag as above. Felt so-so in this outift, though I might repeat with different footwear. Still battling plantar fasciitis, and these Naots are the same footbed as my gray shimmer oxfords.

6-8 (worn for a day off): stone corduroys (Patagonia, slim cut); olive heather knit cowl top (made by me); taupe and ivory handknit cardigan (Amy Brill); taupe cut-out booties and shoulder bag as above; taupe trench (Calvin Klein). Felt better than it looks. I despair over the back view. I bought these cords to replace an Eddie Bauer pair that I always wanted to cover up, and I think I just have an issue with my backside in light pants. I could not settle on a longer cardigan, though, so I decided to bare (the backside) and bear it! :)

Thanks for looking! I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

WIW: it's leather moto weather

We've had a couple of days of sunny weather and perfect temperatures for a leather jacket as outerwear, so my new (this year) moto jacket has come out to play. Both outfits felt great; lots of favorite items here.

The outfits (worn for days off):
1-4: dark bootcut jeans (Hudson, Beth baby bootcut); mud colored tee (Comfy USA) under taupe and ivory handknit cardigan (Amy Brill); olive leather moto jacket (AllSaints, Hawks); cognac perforated belt (Fossil); taupe cutout booties (Kork-Ease, Stina).

5-8: dark straight leg jeans (Kut from the Kloth, Stevie); teal long-sleeved tee (Caslon) under taupe and gray open-stitch high-low pullover (Hinge); olive-gray belt (Fossil); olive and teal gauze scarf (Asian Eye); olive leather moto jacket as above; gray shimmer oxfords (Naot, Kedma); black satchel (Elliott Lucca, Olvera).

WIW: denim jacket Burberry style

When Angie posted this ensemble, I knew I wanted to try it. Finally had a chance to do it today. Hoping it looks like the Burberry treatment and not just "a little old lady in tennis shoes." Although that's not half bad in itself, I think. I hope to be on the go in my tennis shoes for years to come!

The outfit:
Black and white wavy print knit skirt with mesh knit trim (made by me); denim jacket buttoned up (AG); black and white snake-print sneakers (Mephisto); black packable raincoat (Cole Haan); espresso and black satchel (Joy Gryson, Natalie).

Thanks for looking! I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

WIW: transition-wear in olives and grays

It looks like spring, and there's a chill in the air. I alternate between wanting to break out some spring looks and wanting to wear my boots while I still can. Here are a few outfits that straddle the seasonal divide I'm feeling right now.

The outfits:
1-3 (worn to work): gray, black, wine, olive, and teal scroll-print sweater dress (Nally & Millie); black tights; olive wool crinkly gauze drapey vest (made by me); olive distressed suede boots (Donald J. Pliner, Devi #); black packable raincoat (Cole Haan); black satchel (Elliott Lucca, Olvera).

4-7 (worn to work): beige and gray flower print cotton and silk voile blouse (Halogen); charcoal ponte knit bootcut trousers (NYDJ); charcoal metallic tweed collarless jacket (made by me); black suede booties (Paul Green, Barbie). Do you prefer the blouse tucked (4-5) or untucked (6-7)? Not pictured: same coat and satchel as above.

8-10 (worn for a day off and teaching a sewing class): olive boyfriend chinos (Eddie Bauer); mauve, gray, and olive print felted wool cap-sleeve sweatshirt (made by me), over ivory long-sleeved tee (Caslon); pewter cutout belt (Fossil); pewter metallic suede high-top sneakers (Paul Green); taupe trench (Calvin Klein); taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles).

Thanks for looking! I welcome your feedback and thoughts.

WIW: sporty luxe

This weekend was the Sewing and Stitchery Expo in Puyallup, about an hour or so south of Seattle. I made my annual pilgrimage to the site of all things sewing, to soak up the inspiration (and buy some fabrics and patterns).
Here's what I wore one day to shop and see the pattern-makers' fashion shows and the other day to do a little more shopping and to attend a banquet of the American Sewing Guild, a group for home sewers. Lots of fun. I went sporty-luxe, with new snake-print sneakers! Hope it worked--what do you think?

The outfits:

1-3 (worn to Expo, for shopping and attending fashion shows): black skirted leggings (Eileen Fisher); layered gray, black, and ivory print knit asymmetrical tunics (made by me); black denim cropped moto jacket (Free People); black and white snake-print sneakers (Mephisto); mauve packable raincoat (Mycra-Pac); black and brown snake-print cross-body bag (Aimee Kestenberg).

4-5 (worn to Expo and ASG banquet): black harem pants (Eileen Fisher); gray, black, and white hatchy print tee (made by me) layered under black sequin cap-sleeve sweatshirt (made by me); sneakers as above (for shopping); black suede booties with gray cuff (Paul Green, Barbie) (worn for banquet); not pictured: same coat and bag as above.

Thanks for looking! As always, I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.
