WIW: sequins for work and holiday party

I was inspired by a blog post to make a sequined short-sleeved sweatshirt, but I'm not sure which post it was now! I think it was a combination of the shell-over-blouse ensemble and the holiday ensemble one here. Anyway, I thought I could use a sequined top for our company's holiday party this year. (Our party is always post-holidays, in January.) I wore the sequined top to work, then came home and made a few changes before heading off to the party.

I felt super fab in my new top. I don't think I've ever had a sequined garment before! I like that the sequins are a matte black with a subtle blue tone to the shine, though that doesn't really come through in the photos.

Last outfit is my barely-a-step-up-from-gear, hang-around-and-do-laundry look. Though I did go out to breakfast in it.

1-3 (worn to work): tencel chambray placket-front shirt (Side-Stitch); black ruched tube skirt (Vince Camuto); black sequined cap-sleeve sweatshirt with mesh knit bands at hem, neck, and sleeves (made by me); black tights; black flat booties (Munro, Lexie); gray, black, ivory, and taupe ombre plaid coat (Michael Michael Kors); black satchel (Elliott Luca, Olvera).

4-6 (worn to holiday party): wine silk blouse (Eileen Fisher); skirt and sequined top as above; black and silver shimmer tights (Commando); black d'Orsay pumps (Vince, Claire); long black coat (Gallery); silver bag with chain detail (Michael Michael Kors); sparkly necklace and earrings.

7-8 (worn for a day off ): dark boyfriend jeans (Kut from the Kloth, Catherine); mid-blue waffle tee (2 Dog Island); black, brown, blue, and sage boxy boucle sweater (2 Dog Island); cognac perforated belt (Fossil); black flat booties (Munro, Lexie).

Thanks for looking! As always, I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

Wow - what a beautiful top!!  I especially love it dressed right up with the wine coloured blouse. Can I place an order for one?  :)  Just a  fantastic piece.  And your one-step-up-from-gear look is great - those jeans fit you very  well.

I love your new sequin top, Sharan! It has the shape of a sweatshirt, but the sparkle of a "going-out" shirt! Looks equally great over the denim/tencel shirt as over the wine blouse! Fun addition to your wardrobe. I can see this working with sooooo many items in your wardrobe. I like your at-home outfit too. We have similar looks for at home ;)

Another one of your amazing creations.  Clever to wear it over the long-sleeved shirt, like a jerkin. And now you know:  glittery black is very pretty on you!  I especially like the party outfit, the wine blouse and that elegant long black coat.

    Gorgeous!

I love that coat on you. Great looks, but my favorite is #7: simple, sleek and chic. Casual but elegant.

(I typed out a long comment - and then lost it because I got completely side tracked. The Seahawks JUST MADE THE FINAL. WOOOHOOOOOO. There are fireworks here in Madrona).

Okay. Back to stylish you. Both holiday outfits are killer, Sharan. I especially like the rendition with the red blouse. There is lots of extra bling on top of the sequin top - hose and necklace - and it REALLY works. WOW. Nicely done. xo

OMG. No way, Angie! Last I heard, the score was 16-0, Green Bay, in the 4th quarter. I was a little sad, thinking, gee, they'd have to make three touchdowns in the final quarter?! And I'm not really a football fan, but I am a Seattlite now, so how can I not be moved to follow the Seahawks at least a little bit?

    Okay, back to fashion. . . .
    Thank you, everyone!
Jackie, I'm flattered that you see my at-home style as similar to yours. I admire your very stylish casual looks!

The rich red blouse and sequined top are beautiful on you. Keep wearing that daytime bling. The black sequined would be great as a part of an all black outfit or with faded blue jeans and your black booties.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Oh! Joy, I really want to wear that outfit--faded blue jeans (boyfriends in my case), plus my suede black booties. Thanks for the idea!

YES WAY. It was sooooooo close. The Packers *almost* had it in for the Seahawks. Final score 22-28 to us. All in the final two minutes. AMAZNG. We have been dragged into the football scene because close friends are huge fans - and now because the Seahawks are winning - it's been fun to follow. xo

Yes, I'm surprised to find myself caught up in the Seahawks fervor since last year. I can even name two or three players. :)

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

HAH. High five. I think I can recognize a few of the players names too. xo

  • Diana replied 9 years ago

Oh wow!  I really love your holiday party outfit!  All of that sparkle is just fantastic, and the rich wine color is the perfect festive complement to the silver and black.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Thank you, Diana. If only I had your bubble skirt! (Which I really liked with your floral sweater, too.)

The sequined top looks divine on wine blouse. You look ready to partaaayyyy! I also really like the necklace.

  • Peri replied 9 years ago

Love it of course! Did you hand sew all those sequins or is there actually sequined material?

You've inspired me because I have a wine silk blouse I've tried to wear with a black skirt and have never been successful. Now I see that it might look a lot better with something over it...I'll have to try. Thanks!

You've also inspired me because I've decided on my Spring wish list is a trench coat as pretty as your green one.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Ha ha, Peri! Yes, the fabric came with sequins already sewn on. I used a sharp needle for sewing through the fabric and sequins. You're so sweet. I'm flattered at your admiration of my green trench.

I love the shape of that skirt on you and it is fantastic with the sparkles. You errands outfit looks great also - I like the cognac belt touch!

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

Oh, how can you wear black as well as your medium moody neutrals! I agree, the necklace is perfect even with the sparkly top .
FAB long coat. I like long on you.
And 2 Dog Island- I don't know that brand, but I love those items. Great jeans look.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

    Thanks, Mona!
shevia, I wouldn't have thought to wear a cognac belt and black shoes before YLF!
unfrumped, thanks! I always feel I want to add a little color to my black outfits. And I haven't seen anything by 2 Dog Island in a while. It is a brand I found at a local boutique a couple of years ago.
