WIW: cords, jeans, & a new bag

These outfits are some days-off looks: jeans, cords, and favorite boots. And a new bag that I was excited to find. I had been wanting a bag in brown and black that would look good with my espresso moto boots. I wanted it to have black on it, so it would pair easily with black shoes and black-based outfits, too. I was sure a Brahmin bag featured at Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last year was going to work, but I didn't like the shade of brown. Finally I stumbled across this Joy Gryson bag on sale recently and took the plunge. It was a gamble, because I hadn't seen it in person, and it was final sale. Fortunately, it turned out to be just what I was looking for! I carried it with the last outfit shown here, and I have included a photo from the website as well as my own photo of it.

The outfits (all worn for days off):
1-2: Olive skinny corduroys (Kut from the Kloth, Diana); blue, olive, red, and ivory print knit surplice top (made by me); indigo blue merino boyfriend cardigan (Halogen); cream and stone belt; blue on blue textured stripe scarf; olive distressed suede tall boots (Donald J. Pliner, Devi3).

3-4: Amethyst and bright purple merino color-blocked pullover (Eileen Fisher) over wisteria thin layering tee; fuchsia and purple scarf (Eileen Fisher); dark bootcut jeans (Hudson, Beth baby boot); taupe nubuck booties (Paul Green, Jano).

5-7: Dark straight leg jeans (Kut from the Kloth, Stevie); dusty teal long-sleeved tee (Caslon); blue and sage hand-knit cardigan with mismatched buttons (Amy Brill); brown belt; espresso moto boots (Miu Miu); black and mauve packable, reversible jacket (Mycra-pac); espresso satchel (Joy Gryson, Natalie).

8-10: satchel and moto boots.

Thanks for looking! Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

Very nice Firecracker; I especially like the boyfriend cardi, and those jeans are very nice! On a different note, I hope we'll continue to see pics of you in your skirted leggings :)

LOVE the new bag, Sharan. it worked out amazingly, despite the gamble. Great with your favourite tall boots.

Super little high contrast accents in outfit #1. A change from your usual low contrast looks - no?

And  outfit #2 works PERFECTLY with your new specs. Jewel Toned Delight. xo

#1 Your white belt looks great with this outfit. It seems to help more clearly define the other pieces.

#2 Love that gorgeous scarf with the shades of purple!
#3 You look great in your Kut jeans, and how fun are those mismatched buttons?!

#4 What a fab bag. It has beautiful texture and I can imagine it working well with many items in your wardrobe. Enjoy carrying it!

Thanks, Torontogirl! The skirted leggings are out of the laundry bottleneck now and ready to wear again. Thanks for the encouragement!

Angie, thank you. Glad you like the new bag! Yes, outfit 1 is a little higher contrast than my usual, isn't it? That top is one I usually wear in warmer weather (hence the scarf, to cover the v-neck)--I think I tend to lighten up in spring and summer. I thought about wearing a darker belt, but I liked the way the light one pulled the ivory from the top. I felt I was breaking a fashion rule by "cutting myself in half." Daring, huh?

Windchime, re: the belt, I cross posted with you! I'm glad to hear you like it. Thanks for all your kind comments.

That bag is gorgeous! I love how the texture echoes the texture on the moto boots. It will work really well into your wardrobe and is a terrific shape.

Really enjoying the high contrast pops on outfit #1 -- brings out the blue!

Interesting what you say about the scarf....oh, you and I could get together and commiserate about scarves for a couple of hours, I'd say. ;)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Ha haha, Suz! Thanks for the bag love, too.

Oh, and your comment about the blue reminded me: outfit 1 is my version (a very remote replica, mind you) of Seahawks colors, which are a light navy and bright green.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

The blue colors look great on you and are a nice change of pace. Love the bag!

Wow! Love the new handbag. What a fab find. I love the white belt in the first outfit. What a great way to brighten the dark colors. It ties in with the sweater--so pretty. You look amazing in all of your casual looks. Everyone of these is so you and so gorgeous!

    Thanks, shevia and kellygirl!

I like your thinking about the bag (great choice by the way). You've given me some food for thought for my future bag selections.

What a great bag, and it goes fantastically well with your boots. You have such a nice casual wardrobe, and each item fits you perfectly.

  • approprio replied 9 years ago

Rocking it as elegantly as ever. I love this colour palette, and the new bag is a great score.

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

Love the jeans outfits and moto boots.

I like 2- tone bags and mixing black with warmer colors. I really like your choice and think the 2 different leathers/ textures make it work better- something to look for!

#1 is really fantastic!  The BF cardi is great. I wish I could have found one this year but just didn't get to it. And I love your new bag - looks like a perfect choice in color/texture. Very nice.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

And aren't we having a nice mild Winter this week. xo

  • replied 9 years ago

I'm rather liking seeing you in a little more contrast as in #1. I still love your moody neutrals, but it's nice for a change eh? Those camo boots are just fab as is your bag (great texture). Lovely purple tones in 3/4 and fun playful touch with the buttons in #6 as well :)

  • tulle replied 9 years ago

That is a sumptuous bag--absolutely love the texture of the grain.  And I love your purple trend, and the way the purples mix with those dark chocolate brown leathers, a very rich mix.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

    Thanks, everyone!
Texstyle, I like a good boyfriend cardigan, too. This one and a couple of others I have that are just like it are from previous years.
unfrumped, I'm often drawn to 2-tone bags, also. Transcona Shannon has one by Fossil in two tones of brown that I think is gorgeous.
tulle, thanks! I love pebbled leather, too. Glad you like the purple--as Angie pointed out, the EF sweater is a perfect match with my glasses, though you can't really make it out in the photos.
Angie, yes, I'm enjoying the mildness, even in spite of the drizzly spells.
