WIW: new harem pants

During the Seattle meetup, I bought a pair of pants--with a little encouragement from my friends!-- at a shop called The Finerie. I wore them to work today. They are a harem pant style that is also a bit like Thai fisherman pants.

The outfit (worn to work):
Navy harem pants (Desigual, Thai harem pants); navy, gray, ivory mixed print and stripe long-sleeved scoop-neck tee (made by me); indigo textured-stripe scarf; beige cotton jacket (Caslon, roll sleeve utility jacket); taupe cross-strap flats (Naot); black and brown snake-print cross-body bag (Aimee Kestenberg); silver herringbone bangle; silver and blue stone bracelet and silver and blue stone dangly earrings (Lucky).

I enjoyed wearing this comfy boho look. I welcome your thoughts and suggestions!

I am very intrigued by your pants Sharan! (That sounds a bit odd doesn't it :-)?) I wouldn't exactly call them harem, but it is a general shape that is popular with Israeli designers - all of whom I can pretty assuredly say have spent time in Thailand. I will have to check this out further.

Anyhow, I think they look terrific with the top - especially without the jacket, because in the end a fitted top does work most easily with voluminous bottoms. I would try with a small heel too. Great pick!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Thanks, Shevia! I'll try them with a heel and with some platform sandals this summer.

  • Vicki replied 8 years ago

These look spectacular on you and anything from the Seattle meet-up warms my heart. I'm glad you were talked into these pants and I like them with your cute shoes. I see them working equally well with sandals and heels, too.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Thanks, Vicki! Next time you come to Seattle, we'll have to take you to the Finerie. Shevia, too!

  • gardenchick replied 8 years ago

I was looking forward to this post styling the new pants and it is fabulous! The shirt goes well with the volume and vibe of the piece. They look very comfortable.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Thanks, Gardenchick! And Jude, thanks for your encouragement, too. Your partner in crime gave me a pretty strong recommendation to get the pants. ;)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Thanks, Joy. They are super comfortable, without feeling sloppy. One can always use clothes like that, right?

  • Karin L H replied 8 years ago

Such a cool look! I like it with those shoes and top, and I love the blue pops of colour in the top.

I saw these glorious pants in person and loved them. Soooo fun. And the way you've styled them here is killer, Sharan. Rock on.

  • DJP replied 8 years ago

Oh Sharan, the Chaing Mai pants look even better than I remember at the Finerie. Plus, your "party in the back" tee is just fantastic. You are absolutely killin' it in these pics!

  • kellygirl replied 8 years ago

  • unfrumped replied 8 years ago

Those are very cool in a kinds of exotic cargo pant way. Boho Sporty Luxe. I like the shoes with straps with them. Agree you do fitted over volume silhouettes very well. It looks Arty- Edgy.

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

Nothing short of A.Mazing on you!

And that meet up sounded like so much fun.  Sigh.

  • Olivegreen replied 8 years ago

    Love the pants. Love them.

  • jackiec replied 8 years ago

Fun, sharan! These suit you well, and I love that top with the pants.

  • Eliza replied 8 years ago

Great look on you.  I haven't seen anything like those pants here and they are a fun change in silhouette.  Of course, I had to check out where that awesome top came from and once again, kudos for your talents.  Just beautiful.

  • Diana replied 8 years ago

    Those pants are super cool!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Thanks, everyone! Your comments are making me glad I went ahead and bought the pants.

Denise, I'll take badass Burning Man--thank you!

Staysfit, thanks for the compliment about putting things together. I sometimes forget there is a skill to creating outfits from different designers, brands, etc., and it is something I really enjoy doing.

  • Jeweled replied 8 years ago

Firecracker, I think the ensemble in pics 1 and 2 is the most flattering outfit I've seen on you.  It somehow really connects with YOU.

I'm trying to put my finger on why this outfit looks so flattering - and I think it may be that it's more "yin" with the soft scoop neck top and soft-shaped pants.

Most of the other pieces I've seen on you have been more "yang" influenced.

I'm not sure if it feels that way to you, but I do think the lines in this outfit would be worth your further exploration!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Jeweled, thanks for the thoughts! I hadn't looked at it that way, so thanks for pointing out those elements. I know I am really drawn to more interesting pants--some fullness, cargo pockets, drapiness. It's hard to find styles with those elements that I feel are also flattering on me. The t-shirt is a pattern I've made several times. The big curve of the wide scoop neck is more of a spring/summer style for me, because I run cold!

  • karymk replied 8 years ago

Your pants are perfect for your style.  What fabric is that? I'm thinking a leather jacket on top too....Like your self coutured tee, esp. the back.  I am agape at anyone who can sew on knits.  I just never learned, so I don't.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Ooh how fun that you've already taken the pants for a spin! Loved 'em in person, love 'em styled here :D

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

    Thanks, Aida!
Karen, the pants are cotton. I did try on a leather jacket and liked it--I will wear that combo sometime. And knits aren't as hard to sew as I used to think they were. The knits have changed, and so have machines.

  • Karie replied 8 years ago

A super cool outfit! Those pants are perfectly fabulous, and perfectly you. They are stunning with the top (I love that scoop back!).

  • Kat replied 8 years ago

Love this, but must give a particular shout out to the shoes. Funky and superb color!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

I love harem pants and these are really interesting.  They look a little like a harem cargo pant?? Love your outfit.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Yes, Deborah--harem and cargo all at once. And a bit of wrap style and jogger pant too! Which I'm now finding pretty funny--let's just pack all the trends into one garment--ha ha!

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

Missed this thread before, I love the trousers and agree the styling is perfect too.

  • dashielle (Ann) replied 8 years ago

Lovin' em as much from the front as I did from behind ;-0

  • Dixie replied 8 years ago

They look so cool! Do you have long legs? Because I guess you have if you can pull this pants this good. Kudos.

  • Style Fan replied 8 years ago

I love those pants.  I am a fan of fitted on top and volume on the bottom.  I might see if I can find them.  A local boutique carries Desiqual.

I love how you have put the outfit together.  The top is great.  I can sew a bit.  I so admire the fabbers who are sewers. I might take it up again.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Dixie, thank you! My legs are slightly long proportionally, but not so much that I don't have to hem all my flares or bootcuts.

Thanks, Style Fan! If you take a sewing class or two, you might find it easier to pick back up again.

  • Carole replied 8 years ago

Wow...cool pants...what a great outfit and fun memento of your meetup!

  • Debbie replied 8 years ago

Sharan I always love the way you put things together and this is no exception. Thosepants are amazing and I love the way you styled them. You have a wonderful sense of style.

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Whoa, the new cargo-harems:-) I'm amazed how easy you can wear these so very different and intriguing special items, Sharan. Desigual is a brand I can so admire on others, but just doesn't suit my persona! Very edgy, I would try them with ankle strap heel and no jacket for more glamour, but this is a great outfit per se!

  • Caro replied 8 years ago

Your outfit looks very French to me! I have been wanting what I would call harem pants, they have some this season at H&M and everywhere... been eyeing all the ones on Spartoo, but I am really not sure how to style them with a top and shoes! I can only imagine a tank and flip flops...
