WIW: a fall formula, dress & booties

While it's not yet too cold, I'm trying to get in some dress-and-booties outfits. I tried a couple of jackets over this dress, but went with a vest, since I don't yet need the warmth of a jacket over the long sleeves. I felt really good in this outfit.

The outfit (worn to work): long sleeved body-con dress in a knit that has a tiny-bubble texture, in tones of brown and white on black (made by me); black crinkle knit vest (Comfy USA); brown stretch leather belt with big hammered brass buckle; black tights (Commando); brown metallic booties with black elastic inserts (Donald J. Pliner); hammered brass earrings (Lucky); taupe trench coat (Calvin Klein); black satchel (Elliott Lucca, Olvera).
I've shown a detail photo that shows the dress fabric and the belt buckle up close.

I welcome your thoughts and suggestions for improvement! Thanks for looking.

Gorgeous dress! I love that belt - where did you get it (crossing fingers in hopes that it's still available and I can be a lemming)?

When I first looked at the pics, it appeared as though the belt was part of the dress but it is just that close in color - the texture/pattern is different.  Very nice combo.

Very nice look Sharan.  Your outfits always look so well coordinated.  My only thought is that I would like to see it with a lighter leg for this time of year.  Just to lighten it up a bit before winter is fully upon us.

I love how warm and rich everything looks! The dress has such a cool texture/pattern and those shoes are really making me want a pair of bronze booties to wear with black tights.

The dress fabric is a great colour on you, and I love how you've styled it, Sharan.  The texture of the fabric works really well on you; to my eye it echoes your curls.

What a beautiful dress and belt. As usual, you have texture and shine "all sewn up" (so to speak). And I love the idea of wearing a vest while you still have the option to do that. I think sometimes we forget and "rush" our seasons. And then complain when the longer ones seem to drag on. That's why wearing booties now is also a great idea. I do the same -- try to reserve the tall boots for when they are really necessary -- rainy or colder weather.

I was wondering, with Dianthus, how this would look with a lighter leg? For me, that's become another part of not rushing the seasons. I think it's more crucial for someone with my paler colouring -- I really like myself better in dresses and skirts when I can have a lighter leg. For you that is not so necessary. Still, it would be nice to give yourself the variety.

    Thanks, everyone!

Karie, the belt is by Suzi Roher. It is several years old, and I don't see the same one on her site, though there are some similar styles.

Dianthus and Suz, good idea on the lighter hosiery. I could have gone with a microfishnet, for one option.

Aubergine, thanks! I can see you in bronze booties, with your black-based outfits. I like that these booties have black elastic, which makes them go really nicely with black as well as brown.

Lynne, thank you! I sometimes wonder about these colors in the dress (whether the browns are too warm); I'm glad to hear you like them on me.

That is such a cool belt! I love all of the interesting textures & lines you've combined here. :)

Love this Sharan, the mixture of textures in this outfit is wonderful.  And everything fits you so perfectly too.

I have a Suzi Roher belt, aren't they amazing?  I actually had a fleeting thought that it might be one of hers when I looked at the pic, just the way it sits so beautifully.  Funny.

Thanks, E. The mix of textures is something you do so well in your outfits, too.

Elizabeth, aha! another Suzi Roher fan. Her belts are expensive but so wonderful. I have another one, too. They haven't gotten much wear lately, with the boxier fits that are in style. Now that belted looks are coming back, I hope to get back to wearing them more.

#1 is absolutely Killer, Sharan. Make that Killer to the power of Killer. No wonder you felt extra great in that outfit.

Do you have a knee-length coat?

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Wow, thanks, Angie! I think I have a wool coat that is knee-length. I'm not sure I have one that would cover the dress, except a long midi black one. I should get them out and try them with dresses.

This is gorgeous!  I love the colors of the dress and booties, and the belt is perfect!

Fantastic outfit, Sharan! The belt is a gorgeous statement accessory! And love how you added that for the perfect touch to complete your outfit!

Fantastic knit fabric. Belt is art.
I was thinking same thing about coat. It's not necessary, but for your skirts and dresses, a knee length coat would match the elegance in the outfits. Of course we could do that endlessly!
Also if you were in the market for such longer coats, I think they'd work with your pants as well. With your height& long lines I think it'd be fab compared to the car coat length.

Sharan, i love your style.  you are really in tune with what suits you in silhouette and color.  very envious of your mad sewing skills.
