WIW: skirted leggings

I got the Eileen Fisher skirted leggings back, after having returned them. (I had bought the AllSaints ones, which didn't work out.) While Nordstrom's website said they were backordered till 19 Dec, they showed up yesterday. Okay! Not questioning good fortune.
I bought a size larger than I would usually take in Eileen Fisher (that being the smaller of my usual sizes, since EF typically runs large). I ended up taking in the sides of the skirt this afternoon, because it poofed out a little at the side seams. Guess I was just in between the two sizes.

The outfit (worn for a day mostly off, and to teach a one-on-one sewing class in the afternoon): black skirted leggings (Eileen Fisher); black, red, and gray abstract patterned long-sleeved, crew-neck tee (made by me); long gray cardigan with step hem (Halogen); black suede booties with gray turn-down cuff (Paul Green).

Thanks for looking! Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Uh oh. I still have to download photos from camera. . . . Okay, here they are!

ETA: The skirted leggings, pre- and post-alteration

3-4: pre-alteration

5-6: post-alteration

Better, right? (I hope!)

    Waiting with bated breath!

Well, I knew I had taken the photos. Just forgot where they were. Story of my life. . . .

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

Lol! They are super cool! You look fantastic!

I'd like to see the skirt leggings without the cardigan, but what I can see looks fab. I really love the booties and cardigan with them and your patterned tee is lovely. I'd like to see more of it too.

I love them!  And you have the best boot collection of anyone here.  5 stars for this outfit !

I'm having a hard time seeing them! Would love to see a picture without the cardigan.

    Great outfit!!!

I love those skirted leggings! The comfort and warmth of leggings, the fanciness of a skirt - perfect!

  • Windchime replied 9 years ago

Fun outfit! I, too, would be interested in seeing the skirted leggings without the long cardigan.

Beautiful! I just saw those IRL when I was in Ashland OR. The quality is great!

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Oh, love! Would also like to see w/o the cardi...

Good job on getting the length right...they look great!  In the EF photo, the skirt is too short IMO...veers into tennis skirt territory .  You'll have fun creating outfits I predict!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

They look great on you! And I love how you are able to alter them so they are perfect; that's probably a real boon at times. Great outfit and these will be workhorses, I'll bet.

I love this outfit! It is a bit difficult to see the fit of the skirt with the long cardigan, but I like the silhouette and the skirt really elevates the look.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Looks good! I like the long sweater.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Aw, geez, you guys are so demanding! (kidding!) I just added photos of the leggings without the cardigan, pre-and post-alterations. For all the inquiring minds. :)

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

    Thanks Sharan :)
The length is great. And it's a lot less fitted than I was expecting. Nice!

  • Diana replied 9 years ago

These are really cool!  I am quite tempted by them myself.

  • Deb replied 9 years ago

My goodness.....they look very good post-alteration....I'm tempted to order these myself! The overall look is appealing as always.

  • approprio replied 9 years ago

I'm so glad you went for these. I looked at them when you first posted, and I just want to say that with legs like yours it is your civic duty to wear a short skirt. Enjoy!

  • KikiG replied 9 years ago

Good job on the fantastic alteration, and how cute you look! I don't think I knew these existed, except to wear to the gym.  Wow.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Fantastic alteration Sharan. It always amazes me how tweaks here and there can make a less than perfect item absolutely perfect.

I've been eyeing these EF skirted leggins on eBay myself - I thought they'd be a nice change for casual wear at home (as opposed to jeans or sweat pants). In your opinion, could they also be worn with a nice blouse and jacket (or dressier cardigan) with boots for a casual work outfit? Just curious...

I think skirted leggings are fantastic! I'm really glad they're getting noticed a little more. Lately I've been "making" my own by layering colored, shorter skirts that are too short for me to feel comfortable wearing anymore, over a pair of leggings to get a similar look.
I love how you put it all together!

  • Jules replied 9 years ago

Huh, I would never guess from the stock photo that the skirt had that much length and shape to it (looks shorter and like a stretchy body con tube skirt). Definitely much better on you than the model! The effect is of "real clothes"  not gear as we discussed in your thread for a reject pair.

  • Keturah replied 9 years ago

This is a fabulous look on you! You look darling! And i'm all for leggings with skirts, skirts with leggings, and the like. It's one of my favorite things ever.

    xoxo

So much better after the alteration. You are super cute as always. Loving the new boots and maxi cardi too. Very "Sharan". xo

  • Elly replied 9 years ago

I love these on you-- glad you whipped them off to the alteration pile, they look like a fun piece.

  • replied 9 years ago

Wow, you did a great job with that alteration: no more hip winglets! Wear and enjoy. :)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

    Thanks, everyone!
Shannon, I would wear them to work, but my setting is pretty casual. The skirt is very lightweight and in my opinion doesn't look as substantial as, say, the Vince Camuto tube skirts. Partly because of the length. So I wouldn't wear the leggings in place of a pencil skirt, for example. I would go a little arty with them for work, if I were you--less toward the blazer you suggest and more toward the long or asymmetrical cardigan.
