WIW: 3 silhouettes & new booties

Like a lot of other fabbers, I've been inspired by Una's 5-silhouette challenge. While I haven't actually taken up the challenge, I decided to analyze what I'm wearing in terms of silhouettes. I am posting 4 days of WIWs here, and I see that I have 3 silhouettes.

Sat: long cardigan over slouchy pants
Sun: boxy top over bootcut pants
Mon: bodycon dress with topper
Tue: boxy top over bootcut pants (again)

The outfits:
1-3 (worn for a day off and shopping): faded boyfriend jeans (Fidelity); black waffle knit tee (2 Dog Island); black, brown, and camel fuzzy animal print cardigan (Free People); tan belt (Trafalgar); black suede booties (Paul Green). True confession: I bought the booties on Saturday and wore them out of the store, for several more hours of shopping with a friend. Love them! I wore them as in #1, but tried them as in #3 for fun, and to show you the gray contrast turn-down cuff on the booties. I might wear them like that sometime, with the pants rolled above them--what do you think?

4-6 (worn to work and for family gathering in the evening): charcoal gray ponte bootcut pants (NYDJ); gray merino pullover (Eileen Fisher); burgundy, gray, and gold plaid matelasse asymmetrical vest (made by me); black suede booties (Paul Green); ombre plaid coat (MICHAEL Michael Kors); charcoal felt asymmetrical fedora (Asian Eye); black satchel (Elliott Lucca, Olvera).

7 (worn to work): dark espresso brown ponte knit shingle dress (made by me); faux fur vest (made by me); black tights; black wedge boots (Pikolinos). You can't see the shingle design in the dress in this photo, but it's kind of like the Vince Camuto or Bailey 44 bandage dresses; here's the pattern I used.

8-10 (worn for a day off & errands): dark wash bootcut jeans (Hudson, Beth baby boot); white long sleeved tee (Caslon); boxy green and blue arty handknit cardigan (Amy Brill); taupe nubuck booties (Paul Green, Jano); brown belt (B Low the Belt); charcoal wool cocoon coat with green wool trim and cuffs (Lodenfrey); black satchel as above. I bought this coat in 1992, in Austria. I brought it out a couple of years ago after many years of not wearing it, and reduced the ginormous shoulders. Still didn't feel like wearing it. But now I think it's almost stylish again. What do you think?

Thanks for looking! I always welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

I have been looking at/drooling over the FP Out of Africa cardigan...You style that so well and make me want it even more...

You look amazing in every one of these outfits and this is definitely a lot of variety in silhouette! Plus, I cannot get past those gorgeous booties!

Paul Greens seem to be exceptionally good for you, along with Donald Pliners. You have a fantastic and well thought out footwear collection to go with your incredible wardrobe.

Great outfits as usual! I love that fun sweater with all the different buttons - wow! And your all black with the fur vest look is stellar. I am nodding with Suz about your footwear :)

PS - and YES your last coat seems totally in style now! I had to go back to re-read your comments - it looks like the cocoon coats trending now :)

I love that Lodenfrey coat...it's timeless. My father bought me a Lodenfrey coat in the early 1960's. Dark loden green, pewter buttons. I loved it. Several years later, I bought one ( with my hard earned summer job money) to take with me to college. Yellow with dark green trim and a print challis lining. It was $80.00 in 1967. Wish I still had it! All your outfits look great, and look good on you. There's just enough of a personal style element to make your looks distinctive.

Looking good Sharan! All I can say is you look amazingly fabulous in those baby bootcuts, boots and belt in #8 and 9. You need to wear those whenever you're not working. Man, what a body you have, and these show it off to perfection! ;)

Crutcher, I just love the feel of it the sweater on.  I'm not sure how well it will wash, or whether the fuzziness will start pilling. But for now it's very cozy.

Suz, thank you! I was not in the market for black booties. I was trying on some Vince Camuto booties in a taupe-based animal print, on sale. They were cute but I knew I couldn't wear them for a full day at work, so they wouldn't fulfill their purpose. I told the sales associate how much love my Paul Green metallic peep-toe booties (Tacey), and said I would like to find a winter version of that bootie. He brought these out, and I thought, no, not black. But they have that little gray turn-down cuff! And they feel awesome on. That's all she wrote, as my mother says. Ha ha! So I'll wear them for several years, I'm sure.

Jackie, thanks for your encouragement and thumbs-up on the coat.

Retailgirl, that's such a neat story about the Lodenfrey coats. I didn't realize they were a known brand beyond Europe. I have very fond memories of picking mine out and wearing it in Germany, where I was living at the time. It was quite a splurge for me. I doubt I'll part with it for many more years.

Claire, you are too kind! It's the jeans, I swear. I think they are magic. I am finally really getting to enjoy these jeans. I put off hemming them for a while. And then of course, I want dry days for them. We've had a lot of dry, cold weather, and I don't mind it as much when I have some fab wider-legged pants to trot out!

Wow again. I always look at the pictures before I read. My favorite is the dress and fur vest, and I was thinking "I wonder where that dress is from. And what a great vest, where did she get that".

Duh...same answer as all my favorites!

You gorgeous arty creature. (Are you wearing your new specs regularly?)

    I love #1, #6, #7 and #8. You are chic. xo

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Peri, how funny--and nice of you!

Angie, thanks. Yes, I'm wearing them a lot. I did wear my others a couple of times this past week. Otherwise, it's been the new ones ever since I got them.

    *happy dance*

Firecracker, not only do you know how to challenge yourself with different silhouettes, successfully, you managed to alter the silhouette of your Austrian coat!  Amazing, and I really like them all, especially 7 and 8.

  • kkards replied 9 years ago

love all of these, but that black dress with the fur vest--i'm suprised how much i like that because fur vests usually aren't my thing! what a great week you had.

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

How fun!  My faves are 3 and 7 - I need to remember a fur vest with dress.  Can i commission a fur vest?  :)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

    Ha, Vicki! Thank you.
kkards, thank you. I know what you mean. I am not crazy about a lot of the fur vests out there, either. So many different colors and textures, before we even consider the actual style and fit. . .
Una, you don't have a faux fur vest? I think if you found the right one you would have quite a few things to go with it. Not sure I'm ready to sew for others-- especially long distance!
