WIW: same dress, different vest

I mentioned here that I had other ideas for wearing my new burgundy sweater dress that DH gave me for Christmas. Today I wore it with a faux-fur vest and wool sweater tights, for a damp, chilly day.

The outfit (worn to teach a sewing class): Burgundy cowl-neck sweater dress (Bobeau); espresso and ivory faux-fur vest (made by me); brown-black wool sweater tights (Smartwool); taupe leather and hammered silver link belt (Suzy Roher); gray croc textured moto boots (Donald J. Pliner, Dallis); taupe trench (Calvin Klein); espresso and black satchel (Joy Gryson).

Thanks for looking! I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

When I see that dress in the merchandising photo, I would never imagine it looks so fab on. On you, anyway!

Love it Sharan! That's an amazing furry vest. Is the fur color variegated or did you sew it in a kind of patchwork style? The feel is very energetic and the long length is super fun with the dress. Quite like the metal belt as well, adds some nice shine. And I'm always happy to see those fun boots ^^

This looks so great - the fur vest really suits you!

Love! I agree with UmmLila - what looks like a simple, basic sweater dress looks absolutely SMASHING on you, Sharan! The vest is so totally cool - great layer for indoors over the dress. YLF, as always!

Agreeing with Aida; love the vest with your hair too.

Love it with the fur vest. Gorgeous!

What a cozy and flattering outfit!  Your vest has a great length --- it seemed to me that many of the faux furs I spied in the stores were shorter -- but not intentionally cropped.  I like yours very much.

    Thanks, everyone!
Aida, the faux fur is patterned that way--it has varied lengths of fibers along with the variegation in color.
Caro, when I was hunting for faux fur to make a vest, I zeroed in on this one because the colors matched my hair!

    Oops, duplicate.

Oh, this is wonderful. The vest is perfect with the dress, and the belt is such a great touch.

Wow.  I love this entire ensemble.  It is looks so elegant.  All the details work together in harmony.  That almost NEVER happens for me so I especially admire it in others.

Oh, the vest steals the show. It is cool girl stuff.

Thank you, everyone, for the nice comments. I'm thinking of taking the dress and vest with me on a trip, maybe wearing them on the plane. Planning what to pack is such a mental challenge!

Oooh furry vest! The belt is a very Polished Boho touch. Nicely done.

That vest is seriously cool. I really like the dress paired with the chain belt. I'm a big fan of chain belts. I love the way you change things up and make them look so different.

Love it! The furry vest is awesome. I adore faux fur. I have some that I intended to do a vest with...damn why aren't there more hours in a day!

How did I miss this perfect outfit!?  A change of vest and the belt give your sweater dress a completely different look.  That is a great feature for travel.  Now you need to make a dressy jacket for it if you need to dress it up.

  • replied 8 years ago

    I can't believe I missed this either.
The fur and the sweater dress were made for each other. The outfit looks fantastic. Really like the belt too.

Whoa, thanks to the others commenting and boosting this back to the top so I'd see it! This is GORGEOUS! Great dress, and I love how you've styled it. I have a faux fur vest and I think I just got an idea for another way to wear it. Thanks for sharing this one!
