WIW: new dress

For Christmas, my DH gave me a cute sweater dress, in a color I love, and it fits beautifully. He also gave me a lovely scarf that goes with it. I wore the two on Christmas with black leggings. Today I'm wearing the dress again, for work. I have other outfit plans for it, too, which I will photograph later.

The outfit: Burgundy cowl-neck sweater dress (Bobeau); burgundy and gray plaid matelasse asymmetric vest (made by me); black tights; gray suede booties (Paul Green, Delgado). I also tried burgundy lace-up boots (Josef Seibel), photo 3, but decided to wear the gray boots today.

Thanks for looking! I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

    Totally grand!
Your vest is perfect with the dress and a good example of how you will be able to use the dress as a great backdrop for accessorizing.

Great simple cozy dresses for tights  are a HEWI for me. I tend to have problems with knit-fits. Plus have been stalled by short lengths on a few occasions where the dress was otherwise great. Hence wear separates. Yet I wonder, maybe it would be worth it to make that a quest for next year--fuggit about always trying to find more perfect pants and really comb the dress departments?

You look so nice! Your DH has good taste and knows what suits you.

Your DH has excellent taste as the dress is gorgeous on you! Love how you combined it with the plaid vest and I think both of the two pairs of booties go well with it. Looking forward to seeing other ways you wear it, it looks very versatile.

    Killer

The plaid vest looks incredible with the new frock. Your hubs is a keeper. And I slightly prefer the look with the grey boots.

Score one for DH, yay, that looks great!

My DH seems to be very out of touch with the way I want to dress. He knows how he wants me to dress, but not how I want to! You are lucky!

Great gift from DH!  I love the burgundy on you.  I also slightly prefer it with the grey boots.

What a stunning dress on you! Great gift. And it looks wonderful with the vest. I like it best with the grey boots. You have certainly got a good deal of wear from those -- it seems they were worth the money!

What a fantastic combination. I love the vest and it's a perfect compliment to the stunning dress. I, too, prefer the gray boots for sleek professionalism; I also like the lace ups, but they give it a much more casual vibe. That burgundy color is incredibly flattering for you.

You look terrific -- love the vest, and it's marvelous to have a husband who can pick up such great pieces!

I like it best with the grey booties. I also like the vest you made but am looking forward to seeing it with the new scarf as well.

    Thanks, everyone!

unfrumped, I would think you could find an Eileen Fisher dress that would work, and yes, it's probably worth keeping an eye out for one. I love this length, just above the knee, for wearing as a tunic, too. Nordstrom has mine, but not in the color I have. Mine came from a local boutique.

Oh, and I tried popping the collar on the vest, but it looks out of control in my photos. I ended up wearing it down, as I usually do!

Fab dress and I like it with the grey boots too!

Lovely dress and clever combination with the vest

Your husband made a great pick, with this dress. It looks really nice with the vest.

What a great gift from your hubby! Did you hint or did he do it all on his lonesome? Nothing wrong with hinting but I am seriously impressed if he went solo! Looks lovely on you and I really love your hand made asymmetric vest too. When are you going into business? :)

  • Mirjana replied 8 years ago

You look terrific, lovely dress, fantastic gray plaid asymmetric vest. . I like it best with the grey booties. Great outfit like always.

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

I'm so impressed. Hubby did a good good job.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

    Thanks, all!
Brooklyn, I had filled out a wish list at the boutique, and the scarf was one of the items on the list. But the dress was something he chose (not on the list), with help from the boutique owner who is a friend and knows me well. It was quite a feat, and I am very impressed. He is such a sweetheart!

  • Diana replied 8 years ago

Wow! Hubby did really well! ( mine is afraid to buy clothes for me, lol). Your plaid vest is awesome with it!

  • Sara L. replied 8 years ago

Great dress!  I love how you paired it with the vest.

  • Bonnie replied 8 years ago

Your cute vest, beautiful dress, and gray booties make a perfect outfit.

  • kellesc replied 8 years ago

Love! I love both boot options - a gal can never have too many boots!

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

Fantastic!  I really love this on you in every way. I hope you had a lovely holiday.

  • Nichole101 replied 8 years ago

You look great in the dress styled with the gray booties.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

I want the whole outfit! A non neutral sweater dress is a HEWI for me. The vest is darling and a wonderful third piece outfit completer.

  • replied 8 years ago

What a great, versatile piece. I like how you've styled it with bangles and vest. That vest is so cool. It's almost a cape (or maybe it is a cape). Anyway, it's an interesting cut.

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

Fantastic dress Sharan!  Love how you've styled it.  I like both boots... grey for a slightly more refined look, and the lace ups for a more stompy casual look.  Both great, just different.  I can't wait to see this dress again, I have a feeling you'll get a lot of wear out of it, and be able to have a lot of fun playing with styling it.

  • Colette replied 8 years ago

What a nice gift. The dress fits you so well and I like it with the booties. I'm always amazed at your sewing skills. And how you take a piece of clothing and make it look so different with accessories, I'm just not good at that.

  • viva replied 8 years ago

Love the outfit Sharan. I'm impressed as usual by your sewing skills, and -- like everyone else -- SO impressed by DH's intrepidness and accuracy as a shopper. Mine chose from a pinterest board this year. It was the best way to avoid that awkward moment in gift-giving when you receive something from someone you've been with for 26 years and think, "Whaaaaaat? Have your eyes and ears been closed for a quarter century?" :)

  • Helena replied 8 years ago

Great dress; I am sure you will wear it a ton, it looks super-versatile and comfortable.

  • replied 8 years ago

What a lovely dress! Your DH did well. Its a fab colour and flattering fit. The plaid vest you made is awesome. I especially love how you have the pattern on the bias on one side. I too prefer the grey boots as the lighter colour pick up on the lighter tones of the vest and I have a slight preference for the shape of them too.

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

Fantastic dress on you, great job on styling it with that plaid vest, which is amazing in itself. Love it!
