WIW: for a week away

These are outfits I wore for a week visiting family in the cold Midwest. Travel capsule included 3 tops, 3 pants, 1 pair of leggings, 1 skirt, 3 toppers, 2 pairs of short boots. It could have served for a trip that was twice as long.

The outfits:
1: Dark straight-leg jeans (Kut from the Kloth, Stevie); espresso crew-neck long-sleeved tee (Caslon); taupe heather cashmere shredded-knit shrug (made by me); pewter cutout belt (Fossil); gray moto boots (Frye, Lynn).
2: Wine skinny corduroys (Eddie Bauer); black, red, and gray blurry starry print tee (made by me); black boiled wool bomber with faux-leather sleeves (Halogen); black ornate belt (BedStu); gray moto boots as above.
3: black slouchy skinnies (MosMosh); charcoal, blue, and pink floral silk peasant blouse (made by me); black ornate belt as above; black flat booties (Munro, Lexie).
4: Black leggings (Lysse); black ruched tube skirt (Vince Camuto); black, taupe, and red bias-plaid tee (made by me); wine wool high-low pullover sweater (Eileen Fisher); black flat booties as above.
5: Dark straight-leg jeans; black, taupe, and red bias-plaid tee a; ornate belt ; black bomber jacket; black flat booties, all as above.
6 (not pictured): Dark straight-leg jeans; black crew-neck tee; black ornate belt; wine pullover sweater; gray moto boots.

Items not pictured: Black, gray, and ivory ombre plaid coat; charcoal cashmere beret; charcoal gloves; silver shoulder/cross-body bag with chain detail (bag is in Finds below). For plane travel, I carried a bright blue leather tote instead of the little silver bag.

Thanks for looking! Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

What a wonderful travel capsule. I hope you enjoyed the trip. I was really wow-ed by these pictures!

1 - the belt stands out more than I might like but it definitely works. love the jacket and would also want to see this over top an all black column. I think it might really make it pop. just an idea. I guess i just really love the jacket.
2 - fabulous (might be my favorite). belt seems so perfect!
3 - another favorite (can I have more than one favorite? these are all great.)
4 - love the plaid around the neck. can't see the shoes but would also want to see a great pump with the tights.
5 - another great look. I might choose a different belt. this has a lot of organic curves up against the plaid -- I might go for something more tailored or neutral.

Lots of love from me on these! Hope you felt fab.

I love your travel capsule, Firecracker, and you've created some lovely, interesting outfits from it.  I'm glad it worked so well for you.

What a cool capsule! You look great & it sounds like it all fit in a travel on. Good for you staying warm too on your trip! :)

A very inspiring capsule - great ideas and fun pics!

    Thanks, everyone!
AM, your suggestions are great. I also like #2 the best, and it felt very much like me. And 3 was a close second.

Please add the top in #3 to my list! Thanks! :)

I'm in love with the plaid peeking out in 4. The belt is showcased beautifully in 1. A nice little bit of boho chic.

What a great travel capsule, firecracker. Love your boiled wool bomber, a fantastic way to add style to a casual comfy outfit. I have to go with 4 as my fav though, I really like the shape of the hi low sweater on you, and the plaid peaking at the neck is a fun touch.

Question... Do you (or anyone) know if the ruched VC skirts fit the same as the regular tube skirts? Id love to give one a try but have hesitated with sizing.

Your outfits never fail to amaze me. Everything balances cozy comfort and smart casual dressiness so well. My favorite is #4.
I love the look of those flat black Munro booties. I have a pair of black Munro booties that are so comfortable and wonder if it is too early to spring for another pair (like yours).

Nice mix! I like how the colors and themes repeats but every outfit is distinct.

Ah, Peri, that is one of my favorite pieces that I've made. Thank you!

Thanks, Jjsloane! Glad you like the skirt outfit, and I could see you in that plaid t-shirt, actually.

Elizabeth, I don't know about the skirt sizing. I would guess it's the same, but I don't have the regular tube skirt for comparison. It's the ruching that made this style wearable for me.

Joy, another fan of the skirt--thank you! The booties are super comfy. I've been wearing them with my Superfeet inserts lately, for heel and arch support. I have the Munro Grace, too, from two or three years ago, and I haven't worn them since I got the Lexie style this year. But I also got another heeled bootie by Paul Green to replace the Grace. Sometimes I want a little bit of heel. You might wait now and see if there is a Munro boot offered during Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, unless you see what you want now, during end-of-season sales.

I love all of these looks! You look class, modern, and most importantly comfortable. Number 2 and 4 are my favourites. I hope you had an enjoyable week away!

  • Windchime replied 9 years ago

Great travel capsule! You had the pieces to create a wide variety of looks, and they are all flattering and on trend. I, too, especially like seeing #4 on you. It's a different silhouette than you typically wear, and looks great on you. Interesting that you could have done another week of outfit creation from this capsule.

Killer travel week! I love every single one of these. The cutaway jacket is awesome in 1 and I die over the plaid bias tee. You look so YOU in all of these--arty, polished and modern. So pretty!

Such a stylish travel capsule! My favourites are the same as yours - #2 and #3. Love your starry print tee and your sophisticated peasant (is that an oxymoron?) blouse. (Sophisticated because of the silk fabric and the darkish colours of the print and its placement.)  #4 is gorgeous too - love the curve of plaid showing at the neckline of your high-low pullover. Lovely outfits.

You had a very fab capsule Sharan! All are fab outfits, with your lovely rich colour palettes. My favourites are 2,4 and 5.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

    Thanks, Krissy!
Shevia and Windchime, thanks for pointing out the variety I managed in the outfits. I hadn't thought much about it. I brought the skirt to look a little dressier, with pieces that were super easy to pack.
    Kelly and Diane, thank you!
Ruth, I agree with "sophisticated peasant"--I think of it that way, too. And the blurry starry print is one of my favorite prints. I actually have another tee from the same fabric in slightly different colors!

Great capsule Sharan! It looks like you put together a lot of fab outfits from it.
