WIW: dress over cropped flares

I took Angie's idea and wore pants under this dress, rather than the leggings or footless tights I would have otherwise chosen. I kind of liked the effect. What do you think?

The outfit (worn to play in a piano recital):
Short knit dress with black, white, taupe, and gray fashion print (made by me); black cropped flare pants (Halogen); taupe cross-strap flats (Naot); long black and white marled knit cardigan (Bobeau); taupe pleather tote bag with silver studs (Chelsea28).

Thanks for looking! I appreciate any feedback you care to give.

This totally works to my eye. The proportions are perfect.

You look great, and probably were warmer than with leggings. The fabric you chose for your dress is fun

That dress! How cool to have unique pieces in your closet made by you. I wish I knew how to sew.

Wow, I'm flattered--thank you, everyone! Back from the recital, and the outfit felt good. It was no-fuss, and yes, JAileen, I was warm enough. I even took off the cardigan!

That is gorgeous, and I think better with these pants than with leggings.  The proportions are lovely and I think hair up was the right call too.

Artfully done, and the pants are more modern & dressy than leggings - very biased opinion though, I don't like leggings.

  • texstyle replied 6 years ago

This really suits you so well - both in the longer layers and in the color family - nice!

  • Sara L. replied 6 years ago

Great look! The long layers work together beautifully. I love the print on your dress.

  • Jaime replied 6 years ago

Love how the colors of the dress are repeated in the cardigan!

Oh, I love this outfit on you! Seems like this formula needs all the elements to be just right for this to work, and you got it all just so. Glad it worked out for comfort at the recital, too.

I quite like this outfit.   I think the pants are much more modern than leggings.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 6 years ago

Really nice and unique.  Flow, colors, proportions.

Also inspired -I have those Halogen flares and have been really happy with them - they look just great in this outfit.  And I have a Zara long cardigan.  Wheels turning!

Wow!  This is so beautiful and elegant!

Great look Sharan.  I like how the colours all flow together.  You play the piano!  Is there no end to your talents.

  • Beth Ann replied 6 years ago

You do these proportions so beautifully.  This sort of look is flattering and suits your style, too.  I think the modern she and interesting print elevates the look, which looks to be as comfy as loungewear, while still looking polished and fab!

Your piano teacher is also terrific.  I love that you have relaxed, frequent recitals that are more about sharing the music and your progress!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 6 years ago

    Thanks, all!
Beth Ann, I do have a wonderful piano teacher. We have our recitals at a retirement home, too, so often we have an audience beyond the usual family of the pianists. Also, she doesn't require that we memorize our pieces, for which I'm grateful!
