Found: chunky loafers

I was enamored with the Rag & Bone Shiloh loafers at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I brought them home, had second thoughts, ordered the second size (that I had already tried in the store and rejected), and decided the loafers just aren't comfortable enough for me. Still, I thought I might find a pair of non-black neutral loafers in a chunky style, since chunky loafers seem ubiquitous at the moment. Today at Nordstrom, I saw a pair that I had admired online, and I was able to try them on. They came home with me. I will try them around the house for several days, but I am pretty sure these are going to be the keepers. They are more expensive than I usually like to spend, but I think the comfort, style, and color will be worth it in the long run. I had a bunch of Nordie Notes that I could use to create my own little sale on them, too. This muted silver color is a fave for me; I have a pair of booties in this color, and I wear them a lot.
I got my usual size in these, 7.5. They are comfortable out of the box, with light socks. No pinching, squeezing, or slipping. The leather is thick but soft. The shoes are not light but not super heavy, either. Despite the high heel and thick platform, they feel stable.
Shown here with what I wore shopping: off-white wide-leg jeans (Madewell, Perfect Vintage Wide-Leg), bandana-print silk chiffon tank (made by me).

OOOH! KILLER. Love the silver ones, Sharan :) Made them a top pick.

They were meant to be because they found you.

Glad you got the right pair, and good job for not settling for the cheaper pair of Rag & Bone!

Here in Seattle, loafers are a great shoe option! You could wear them today in our current Summer temperatures. I've been able to wear my NAS loafers quite a bit already. Rest assured, these will be worn!

Thank you, Angie. I'm glad to hear how useful you find loafers here. And I already want to wear these! I think they would go with literally almost everything I own.

These are great - really like them on you . I’m still thinking through the kind of silhouette I want for fall/ winter footwear .

Thanks, Lisa. I think it can be a bit hard to figure out until the season arrives.

Sharan, AND they bookend your gorgeous silver hair :)

Oh, I love them. I adore that kind of silver, too. They look great and are quite cross-seasonal, in my opinion.

Those look very stylish, and what Angie said about bookending.

Love the silver loafers on you - it was meant to be!

    Very pretty and perfect color!

I love those! I’ve looked at chunky loafers but not a single pair has worked for me — they all slide off my heels too easily when I walk. These run a bit on the narrow side so I wonder if they might work? They look fab on you. Love that color too.

So glad you found such awesome loafers! That muted silver is my dream shoe color, and looks so good on you. I can imagine they do go with nearly everything you have, so are meant to be. What a beautiful top, too.

Thumbs up! I think they will work better for you than the R&B pair.

I unabashedly love all of my Stuart Weitzman shoes. They are so well made. I have work pumps from them that I wore in torrential rain storms and they came through without any damage or stretching. If you find you are a fan, you might want to sign up on their website as they do have some pretty good sales.

Beautiful outfit and great loafers, I love the color.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 1 year ago

Thanks for all your kind comments, everyone!
Janet, I didn't expect them to fit so well, because in my experience Stuart Weitzman shoes have run a bit narrow for me. When I saw them in the store, I figured I might as well try them. I think they are worth a try for you, though they may not be as narrow as other SW styles.
cat2, I agree the brand does make beautiful and high quality shoes. Thanks for the tip on sales!

Love them! I love loafers in general but these in the silver are really gorgeous. I think I want some navy loafers this fall. I haven't had navy shoes in a long time and am feeling the need for them.

    Very cool!

  • unfrumped replied 1 year ago

    Very fun but also refined.

I do get shoes online, but am frequently stymied by sizing, which ends up ordering & returning 2-3 sizes, or being too inhibited by that prospect to even try some that could turn out great.
If I can try on in a store I can go, Nope, nope, maybe.

    Thanks, all!
RobinF, this Find below, the Franco Sarto loafer, comes in solid navy. It's one of Angie's NAS picks.

Those are nice but not sure I like the fringe. I do have some others sitting in my shopping cart but haven't actually ordered yet.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 1 year ago

Oh, yes! I like those a lot, RobinF.

Yay! I think it's worth it to spend more on shoes if they tick off all the boxes. Since they can be worn everyday in season (as opposed to having to wash between wears) higher PUPY value!
*at least that's how I justify to DH :)

I like them! Nice color (well, I like silver footwear) and the thick sole  makes them modern and functional for Fall.  I think you will wear them a lot. Useless to say, I love your top! Once again envious of your sewing skills. :)

One of the items I remember fondly from my youth is chunky sepia brown leather loafers, that I wore with wide leg choc. brown cords, and a grey collegiate cardigan I stole from my mother's youth.  I don't know if I would do them again...but they do seem practical. I just realized they're probably great for us short-legged people.

The outfit looks effortless, so probably a good find.
