WIW: sweater & contrasting tank and other outfits

One of my recent work outfits this week was inspired by Angie's ensemble: "sweater & contrasting tank." My version (second outfit below) is fairly low contrast, perhaps more tonal in effect. Does it work? I thought my bright coral cami would be interesting to try, but it was in the wash.

Then I was going to go for a similar effect today (third outfit below), but I didn't like any of the contrast options I had (again, I thought maybe the bright coral cami, but I haven't gotten to the laundry yet!). So I ended up with a kind of matching tank under my open-weave shrug.

The first outfit admittedly has nothing to do with open stitch sweaters and contrasting tanks; just catching up on some outfit posts.

The outfits:
1-3 (worn to work): dark ink with tiny white pinstripe stretch cotton slouchy pants (made by me); cream linen angled-hem top with contrast decorative stitching (made by me); tan belt (Trafalgar); mixed neutrals heeled oxfords (Fidji); navy and tan satchel (Dooney & Bourke).

4 (worn to work): same pants as above; gray cami (Shimera); ink open-knit high-low hem sweater (RD Style); metallic peep-toe booties (Paul Green, Tacey).

5-7 (worn to work): black denim angled wrap skirt (made by me); stone long tank, worn ruched up (Emily Blu); silver and gray lace knit shrug (made by me); black sling-back Mary Janes (Think! Aida); black satchel (Elliott Lucca, Olvera).

Thanks for looking! I always appreciate your comments and suggestions.

Gorgeous set of outfits! Can't pick a favorite!

The contrasting tank and open knit sweater work beautifully IMO. And such gorgeous colors on you!

The shirt in 1 is so chic! Love the uneven hem!

The knit shrug and denim skirt in 5-7 is TDF! You are one talented seamstress! Wow!

Beautiful! My favorite pieces are all " Made By Me". I especially like the angled top in the first outfit. I want one!

You are on fire!  All of the pieces you made are beautiful.

#7 is my favorite, but all the outfits are amazing.  The mesh sweater and tank look great to me.

    Thanks, everyone!
Joy, I can definitely picture the cream top on you--it would be fantastic. :)
Neel and Tanya, I'm glad to hear you find the tank and sweater work well together.

Oh cool, I love that angled top!

The first outfit is KILLING me!  Love!  That white angled shirt is gorgeous - the detailing is exquisite!  All of the outfits are beautiful Firecracker - and the items that you made yourself are show-stoppers!
I really canNOT get over that first outfit!!!!

The first outfit is outstanding, the second outfit is also excellent. I love both MBM pieces in the third outfit but they are slightly competing with each other together - I would want to see them each being the featured piece in their own outfit. Still a great set!

Oh my goodness, I love those pants you made. Both outfits with the pants are superb.

I really love #4. So elegant and the fit of the pants is spectacular. The top in the first outfit is also lovely -- it looks perfect for a hot day.

These are all great outfits with such interesting pieces.  I like the grey tank and the grey shoes together in outfit #2.

I loooove #1! That shirt, those shoes, those perfectly fitting pants! Ann arty white buttondown - just brilliant. I want this whole outfit.

The mesh top outfits are great too. I think the contrast levels work well here.

ALL super fun and Elegantly Eclectic, Ms. MAD Glam. I LOVE #1. Very unique and brilliantly casual. xo

More love for 1! The pants are utterly fab on you and the angled top is so unexpected and cool! Love the sweater over tanks--they both look terrific. I meant to say that I adored your linen skirt in the vacation thread. The drawstrings really change it up. It looked like the skirt was floating on you--so amazing and pretty!

4 is gorgeous: what a great colour combination on you!  I love all the textural appeal too. :) I also love 5/6/7: it's so interesting w lots of details but doesn't look busy at all.

Thank you all! Glad you like the outfits and my attempts at layering a contrast tank. Shevia, thanks for your idea on the last outfit; I get what you mean.
Kelly, thanks for adding your comment about the linen skirt.

I love them all! I so admire your ability to sew. The cream linen top is fabulous. Where did you get the pattern for the shrug? I would love to make one, although, I am not sure my skills are advanced enough for the pattern.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Thank you, Staysfit! The shrug is actually a very simple pattern and easy to sew, especially if you use a knit and leave the edges raw. It's the eShrug from The Sewing Workshop. You should give it a try!

Almost missed this one - but I wanted to say I love your sweater with constrasting tank outfit!  I really like the booties you paired it with too. All of these outfits are great but that one is my favorite.

  • Mamavalveeta03 replied 9 years ago

Your interpretation of the open-weave sweater outfit is fantastic! I would probably do the same thing, and go more tonal, cuz it's more me. Love the Paul Green sandals, too!

    Thanks, texstyle and Mamavalveeta!
