WIW: semi-tuck again, simple neutrals

It occurred to me to semi-tuck this top that I made, which I previously have only worn untucked. It seemed to work best that way, and yet it was an awkward length for me to wear like that. Semi-tuck to the rescue.

The outfit (worn to work): pieced top in stone linen knit and cotton knit (made by me); gray linen blend slouchy pants (made by me); stone and cream belt (Annette Goertz); metallic cutout peep-toe booties (Paul Green, Tacy); taupe hobo bag (Aunts & Uncles); darkened silver disc earrings with etched circular detail (gift).

This outfit felt great to me. It is rather subdued for me--no print in sight. I've been dressing a little more minimally lately; guess it's my summer mode.

Thanks for looking! Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

Gorgeous! Love this tonal, neutral look on you as much as the brights. The MBM top and bottoms are fabulous!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Wow, this is amazing on you! Of course I might be biased since it does, after all, include a dose of taupe. Oh, and a semi-tuck. :) What did we ever do without it?

But truly -- I love the soft tones on you and while it's more minimal than your usual, it suits you equally and equally feels "you."

Another fantastic outfit! I love the neutral tones, and the semi-tuck works really well with this.

You're right, it's completely gorgeous.  One of my favorites of yours, and I would copy it if I had the pieces.  Oh for more time to sew :)

One of my favourites too. Everything works so well, you look fantastically chic.

I really like you in lighter shades! I think you look gorgeous and I am loving minimal Firecracker :). Although I might be biased in that I am craving minimal a lot lately!

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

Just incredible.  How do you find time to sew such perfect items and WORK?

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

    Thanks everyone!
Una, I only work part-time. But I did start to do a fair amount of sewing while I was working full-time. It helped to get a few patterns tweaked to fit me well and make them over and over again in different fabrics and with different little twists here and there.

You look amazing! I would cuff the pant hem to show off the gorgeous shoes though!

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

Whoa, this  is fabulous. I LOVE everything about this--it's minimal and yet so interesting! The subtle cording on the pants, the great raglan top, cool belt and shoes. This is the exact kind of look that I want! You look amazing!

Oohhh, this soft tonal outfit has such great textural details! One of my all time favorite outfits of yours! Those metallic booties are gorgeous! Are they all day shoes?

  • Ingunn replied 9 years ago

Oh, this is just gorgeous. I love how at ease you seem, too.

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

This is one of my faves! The summer version of moody tonal. These are so your colors. Fantastic sewing-- I want those pants.

Wow - one of my favourites too. These soft neutrals are absolutely gorgeous on you!  This is such a classy, relaxed and polished look - I give it 5 stars:)

I love this on you, Firecracker! Those pants are awesome - can't believe you made them. Perfect slouch. Any any outfit with those shoes is divine. Love those shoes....

  • Jules replied 9 years ago

Firecracker, you pretty much always just look very cool. The kind of look that seems effortless and I would have had no idea how to build pre-ylf. Like, "how does she do that???".
I understand the elements a bit more these days, but the coolness remains. That is all.

This is a great combination, and the semi-tuck works perfectly!
The peep-toe booties help make the whole outfit look current and cool. You look fabulous in neutrals! I really like this minimal look.

Great outfit!  I can't believe you made that top and pants!  They perfectly complement each other and have that easy, effortless vibe.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

This is the most "you" outfit I've seen you in.  The bit of slouch, the neutral colors = quintessential Sharan.

  • Tessitura replied 9 years ago

I love what you've done here with neutrals, Firecracker.  One of the most formative moments of my style history was when I realized how vibrant one's natural coloring can appear against the right neutrals, and your ensemble here is a perfect example of that principle.  I love how your face sparkles next to the shades of what I would call warm greige, overall.  With the soft coloring, the wonderful texture and seaming of your top comes out beautifully, as does the subtle patterned line down your trousers.  The belt adds structure, and your half-tuck keeps the top from being too blousey or from overwhelming the outfit.  Your accessories blend well while standing out just enough to look deliberate, and the bootie adds a sense of polish.

The overall theme of this look strikes me as deliberate and approachable.  By keeping it simple but ultra-coordinated, casual but with a strong sense of balance, you inspire confidence but avoid any sense of the overbearing or intimidating.  Lovely!

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Oh yes. This moody palette brings out the colours in your hair. LOVELY. xo

    Another super cool look!
    You are an inspiration.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Oh wow this light tonal color palette is really gorgeous on you Sharan! As Angie said, it brings out the colors in your hair. Perfect amount of slouch here, and perfectly added structure too.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Oh, my goodness, you all, I'm blushing. What a response. Thank you!

AJ, the shoes are definitely 5-hour shift shoes--that's how long my day was at work, and standing for 99.9% of it. They are surprisingly comfortable for such a high heel. I think it's a combination of the platform, the cushioning, and the way the soft but substantial leather hugs my foot.

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

You look gorgeous in these muted tones... so good with your hair and skin tones. The braided detail on the (perfectly-fitting) pants' seam is killer... love!

  • replied 9 years ago

Wow Sharan, it must be tough to look so good! What a superb outfit. I love the solids and the slouch. It doesn't hurt to have those great heels on either. I love these soft neutrals with your hair, and believe me, I'm taking notes. I really like the silhouette of those pants on your frame...if that makes any sense. They're so slim, and yet, loose. Either you've lost weight (since your white jeans post early in the season) or these pants just make you look like you did. :)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Ha ha, Claire! No weight loss, just the magic of a slouchy fit.

  • bj1111 replied 9 years ago

Great low contrast dressing. I agree with your orevious post. Don't know hiw i got dressed in morning without the semituck

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

I love everything about it and am amazed at your talent.  I was going to mention how the fit of those pants is perfect and then read more and saw you made them.  You have talent!!

  • viva replied 9 years ago

Love this outfit and its tonal consistency. I find it very calming visually and quite stunning on you. I cannot believe you made that top! I wish I had that talent.

  • Staysfit replied 9 years ago
