WIW: casual summer dress & other outfits

Angie's outfit post today had me thinking about wearing my olive and cream shirt-like-dress with my Josef Seibel gray leather sneakers (they have a greenish cast that even blends well with olive). But I didn't really want to go that casual, so I opted for my sling-back Mary Janes, which are getting a lot of wear this summer, because they are probably my most comfortable shoes.
Then when I got home, I realized I could have tried Angie's other version, with the Munro loafers, which I have in black! (Smacks forehead) Ah, next time.

A couple of other outfits are shown here, worn earlier in the week.

The outfits:

1-2 (worn to work today): olive and cream print low-waist dress (Halogen); olive 3/4-sleeved cardigan (Halogen); black sling-back Mary Janes (Think!); crystal-studded disk bracelet with pewter leather strap; silver pave disc earrings (Lucky); taupe-gray leather hobo bag (Aunts & Uncles).

3 (worn Wednesday for morning off): gray chino shorts (Eddie Bauer); denim blues tank with print mesh knit trim (made by me); jean jacket (AG, Robyn); gray and cream belt (Annette Goertz); gray wedge sandals (DV by Dolce Vita)

4-5 (worn Wednesday afternoon to teach sewing class): layered denim skirt (Tribal); denim blues tank (made by me); stone hemp jacket (Layers Squared); gray wedge sandals (DV by Dolce Vita); taupe-gray leather bag (Aunts & Uncles)

6-7 (worn Tuesday for a day off and piano lesson): gray chino shorts (Eddie Bauer); cream and gray-blues floral tee (made by me); cream belt; ivory sandals with antique gold ring detail (Naot); taupe-gray leather bag (Aunts & Uncles)

Thanks for looking! Your thoughts and suggestions are always welcome.

Wow- you have a great collection of pieces that work so well together and on you , and to be able to create the pieces you want to add to your look? Pretty amazing. I love how those DV grey sandals look on you , and I really like the dress in pic 1 too. I look forward to your pics :)

A fantastic set of outfits! I especially love the ones you made yourself - you are so talented!

  • Peri replied 10 years ago

Like them all but really love the tops in 5 and 6. That Made By Me line is really amazing! :)

  • SarahTheWhite replied 10 years ago

The tops that you make are so great! I always enjoy seeing how you style things and the colors and prints you put together. I especially love #3 and #6.

Thank you, Karie, Peri, and Sarah. I'm glad you like the MBM line!

All lovely outfits. The denim blues tank is my favorite piece and the Naot sandals run a close second.

  • Alana in Canada replied 10 years ago

I love your outfit in #4. That tank is amazing--thanks for giving us a closer look. I love the simplicity of today's outfit (1 &2) as well as the softness of the last one. Your knockin' about the house outfit is pretty classy, too. Always a pleasure to view your WIW posts.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

Thanks, Cerinda. You sew, don't you? The tank is a snap to make (I did a little modification on the hem shape and added the mesh piece).

Alana, thank you--I enjoy your posts, too. You always look like you're having a good time, with your great smile.

Love the dress! Is that your wildcard? All lovely summer outfits.

  • jackiec replied 10 years ago

Wow! I love love love #5 with that layered skirt. I always marvel at how fab your home-made pieces are. Fab!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Look at those gorgeous legs. Can't pick a fave. All outfits are fabulous with your magical MAD Glam touch. xo

    (LOVING our hot weather).

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

    Thanks, everybody!
Mia, this is not my wildcard dress. That one is much wilder (for me).

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

All of these are terrific! I have a soft spot for the long shorts outfits, but all of them are winners.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

Angie, I'm glad for the hot weather, too. I just finished a linen skirt and will wear it soon. Wish I could get in the mood to make summer clothes ahead of summer weather, but that just doesn't happen.

Shevia, thanks for the shorts appreciation! I like to wear them when I can. Some summers here, they don't get out as much.

Love the low waisted dress!  The drop waist is underutilized, I think, and it looks great on you.  Love the denim outfit, too --- great combination!

  • RB replied 10 years ago

Firecracker I love how effortlessly put together you look in all of the outfits.

In particular it's great to get see work outfits for less formal environments, which is similar to the work environment I have. Also, as someone  who has a wok wardrobe which is about 40% me-made I love that you have a great eye for matching fabric and pattern for the me-made components of your wardrobe. I've already filed the skirt away to mull over knocking it off.

And finally that dress looks great on you - looking at it on the model I wouldn't consider it, but seeing how you have styled it makes me think about trying styles like that.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I can't wait to see your new linen skirt, Sharan. And since we cannot guanrentee a hot Summer in Seattle - it's wise not to over-sew for hot weather.

I love that you love your new SW's. xo

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

You are really so consistently fab in your style. Everything looks easy but polished, and your color palette is perfect on you.

And you make me want to drag out my sewing machine and actually learn how to use it!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

Oh, RB, I'd like to see some of your me-made looks! Thank you for your compliments. It sounds like we have a lot in common.

Angie, I'll wear the linen skirt today or tomorrow. Have to figure out how to style it. Oh, and I think the SWs are not going to work for me. They were way too tight yesterday evening. But I'll keep them a few days and see. They are gorgeous, but the fit and comfort will have to be excellent for me to keep them.

Janet, thank you. I love your style; you have that artist's eye for line, proportion, and color.

  • E replied 10 years ago

I love that dress! All of your outfits are just so cool & you always look like you. I'm very impressed. :)

  • replied 10 years ago

Some more fab outfits FC! I love seeing your own made pieces. I particularly like the top in #5 worn with the layered skirt.

ps. I'm looking forward to talking sewing when we meet in Seattle at the gathering :)
