WIW: A Very "Me" Week, Day 1

Taking up Angie's challenge to document a "Very YOU Week" of dressing, here's Day 1 for me.

On my days off, I generally wear jeans, for comfort, and a sweater, for warmth. I have a lot of t-shirts that I've made, in fun print fabrics, which I used to wear a lot with cardigans. Recently, I've gravitated toward pullover sweaters, though, and my signature self-made tees have languished. Today I really wanted to wear one of my t-shirts, and I discovered that the cardigans I like best and the t-shirts I like best do NOT go together. I couldn't come up with a combo I wanted to wear! (Dysfunctional wardrobe discovery #1!)

So I decided to wear a signature self-made tee with a pullover. I tried to expose the neck of the t-shirt a little bit, and I turned up the sleeves of the pullover to expose a few inches of the tee sleeves. Problem solved!

The outfit:
Black jeans (Levis Wedgie High Waist Straight), taupe, burgundy and black abstract rose-print long-sleeved tee (made by me); rose wool high-low hem boxy pullover (Eileen Fisher); charcoal snake-embossed sparkly oxfords (Mephisto); black trouser socks. For outdoors, added gray print puffer coat (OSKA); gray and brown croc-print bag (Brahmin); black knit gloves; and my black aviator sunglasses.

It's always a good day when the sun comes out and I can wear my sunglasses; they make me feel so cool!

Lovely. It’s the OSKA that makes it you in my mind :)

You look great and I love your self made tees. So jealous that you can do that. Maybe I could but first I have to either buy another sewing machine or try to figure out how to make the one I have work.

Love this, and what a beautiful rich shade of red.

Cozy as a kitten in an ugg boot :)

    KILLER

This screams Sharan with my eyes closed. You're cool in pjs without your sunnies too....

You all are so kind. Thank you!
Bonnie, if you are wanting to make t-shirts, get a serger; you'll love it!

No worries... It's what we do :)

What Angie said. A well deserved Killer from the Aviators to your sparkley oxfords. I have wanted that EF pullover. It looks amazing on you, the color too. The glimpse of the tee underneath make me want to see more.

This is such a fun challenge. You look fab! I love the way the tones in your tee tie everything together. Swap out the straight legs for bootcuts and I would steal this in a heartbeat. Now I want to see the cardi version, to showcase you handiwork.

I love your self made tees. I need to find a source for fabric that is worthy of spending my sewing time on and make a muslin. I bought some fine merino from New Zealand that I I have high hopes for but it is sitting uncut as I am waiting for inspiration to strike. If I am snowed in for the next three days, you may have provided it.

Oh I love the burgundy sweater with your signature tee showing at the neck and cuffs.......casual but a bit regal, too!

Love this! Great mix of trends, arty (love the coat and tee), and super stylish but comfortable shoes. YLF!

You look amazing, and so, so you! I love every component of this outfit, from the colours to the textures to the pullover, the jeans (you are Queen of Jeans!) and the amazing coat and dressy bag. Brilliant.

I'm always in awe of your sewing skills, and what a great coat -and of course the sunnies :)

A serger, huh. I didn't know what one was but I watched a you tube video and it looks easy. Maybe I will get one. I'll have to put more thought into it. It would be nice to have custom tees that fit well.

You are so chic, Firecracker! I really like your style. The combination of casual with striking structured bag and the fantastic sunglasses - wow! And the oxfords are right up my alley. Your outfits are always interesting and artistic.
I think that although our styles are quite different, we have some elements of style in common. Can’t really identify it exactly, but there is a playfulness and coolness which really appeals to me and make me want to copy you.
