WIW: standbys and new trousers

In my mind, "standby" is a synonym for fast fall-back option (FFBO). Something I can put on without trial and error, something I know will work. I wore a couple of them in recent days, and in between, I wore a new pair of trousers (outfit 2 below). Despite having tried out some different outfits with the pants ahead of time, I had some trial and error before heading out the door. I was pretty happy with how it came out. I will say I think the pants looked better in the mirror than they do in the photos. They felt quite Katharine Hepburn-like to me--a thought put in my mind by MuseumGal's comments on a couple of my recent WIWs.

The outfits:
1-3 (worn to work): dark brown ponte skinnies (NYDJ); layered-front tie-dye knit tunic in browns, cream, gray, and black (made by me); long charcoal cardigan (Halogen); black suede booties with gray turn-down cuff (Paul Green); brown and gray wool coat (made by me); black satchel (Elliott Lucca, Olvera).

4-6 (worn to work): stone wool crepe tuck-front trousers (made by me); cream, red, and blue-gray floral chiffon peasant top (made by me); charcoal cashmere high-low hem cardigan (360 Cashmere); gray, black, taupe, and cream ombre plaid coat (MICHAEL Michael Kors); gray gloves; black and burnished gold cap-toe pumps (Anyi Liu); black satchel.

7-8 (worn for a day off): maroon long sleeved ribbed tee (Stem); mauve and gray print wool cap-sleeve sweatshirt (made by me); dark straight leg jeans (Kut from the Kloth, Stevie); espresso moto boots (Miu Miu); taupe trench (Calvin Klein); black satchel.

Thanks for looking! Comments and suggestions welcome.

I love how you anchor your clothes with great shoes. Also love the long sweater on you, am very impressed by the MBM trousers and you look terrific in jeans!

I'm impressed Firecracker! These muted, earthy tones in your beautiful, immaculate style, all look great to me.

    Swoon for drapey trousers!

I LOVE #4 on you. You look amazing in those pants :)

Wow… those Miu Miu boots!!! Speechless, they're that cool.

Love #4.  You've made the classic trouser silhouette completely updated with the high low sweater and layering.  The trouser color is also really pretty on you.

That coat is GORGEOUS! I have fabric for one in my stash, let's just say I need to get busy with that...
The trouser outfit does come across as Katherine Hepburn-ish - a very updated, current Katherine Hepburn!
I also like the tunic in #1, perfect for skinnies.

I wonder if you and I are the same size in clothing ?  (wink) I could sure use a dose of style right about now :)  I am particularly drawn to 4/5 and 7/8. The new trousers are simply fantastic; I'm really interested in pale colours myself right now. And that cropped cap sleeved floral is very cool!

Wow - those pants are brilliant!! I absolutely love #4. It was certainly worth whatever work it took to put it together. Gorgeous.

Nodding with Denise about the Miu Miu boots, too. Fantastic outfits all round.

Wow. The new trousers look AMAZING, Sharan. And I love the way you styled them with the semi-tucked high-low soft pullover. The black boots work really well in that outfit too. Now all you need is a dry weather.

Also absolutely loving #1 and #7. Glam Arty Polish. xo

Thanks, everyone! I'm glad to hear you're liking the trousers. I'm surprisingly happy with them and want to make another pair out of silk some day. Oh, but maybe that's for my fantasy life.

shevia, thanks! I like having nice shoes, and perhaps I'm willing to splurge on them, partly because I can't tell myself, "I should try to make that."

Karie, after this coat came out so well, I wanted to make another. I bought fabric. That was last year, or maybe even the year before! I'm really planning to make it this season, really I am.

Lisa, I'd wear yours, too. We could set up some kind of clothes share program! You could send me that sweater with the skull on the back for starters. :)

Angie, thank you! I'm actually wearing my Anyi Lu pumps with the trousers, though I do also like my new suede booties with them. I was wanting a lighter shoe but didn't have any that I quite liked with the outfit, so it's good to hear the black works.

Wow! Loving #1 so much!! And fantastic cream trousers! And don't you look gorgeous in maroon! I can't stop. Fab all around :)

I want your wardrobe!  Those KH trousers are beautiful, so elegant.  They remind me that I need to get out my AT much oversized white wool trousers.  How I wish that they would fit me like yours do you.

  • E replied 9 years ago

I love your new trousers! And I can just imagine them all flowy in person; I've noticed those types of garments don't usually photograph as easily as fitted ones. Anyway, definitely a Hepburn vibe going on with them. :D

Your fallback looks are great too; I love the mix of texture and print and unexpected silhouettes.

  • Tania replied 9 years ago

Fab all around, but those trousers are seriously amazing.
