WIW: sleeveless dress & drapey cardigan

I tried one of Angie's "don't do it but here's how" ideas with a sleeveless dress today. For work I wore a drapey short cardigan over a sleeveless flared dress. I like this dress a lot, but I feel it's a little bare to wear to work without something over or under it--partly out of modesty and partly out of concern for getting cold in the A/C.

The outfit: Sage knit empire waist sleeveless dress with high-low hem (Eileen Fisher); charcoal knit with silver overprint lace knit cap-sleeve shrug (made by me); silver necklace with scroll-design metal beads and silver 3/4-hoop earrings (Brighton); silver and black scarab-design bangle; black sling-back Mary Janes (Think!).

Thanks for looking! Suggestions and comments welcome.

I think breaking Angie's rule works here. The beautiful shrug you made compliments and adds to the style of the dress. I really like this outfit.

I like the lace patterned shrug over the solid color dress.

I also wear cardi's over sleeveless dresses in my chilly office.

Wow, that cardigan is incredible and really suits the dress. For some reason, the whole thing almost reminds me of medieval armor.

I wear cardigans over sleeveless dresses all the time too. There's just no avoiding it if I want to be comfortable in the AC in the summer without being stuck in long sleeves when I'm outside. But my combos are never as interesting as that one!

I love how the lines of the shrug echo the lines of the dress. And the two fabrics together. Watch out - a lotta people are gonna be jealous when you walk in in that.

    Like the cute Mary Janes.

I wish I could see the dress w/o the cardi, but you did a great job of repeating the angles of the dress with the cardi.

Joy, here's a photo that shows the lines of the dress from the front. I'm wearing it over a mesh knit tee. I don't seem to have a photo of the dress alone from the back.

Once again, just beautiful! I'm not sure about the necklace. Maybe you don't need it with this? Not that it's bad, it isn't. I might like something less prominent though. The shrug is great. Like everyone has stated its lines complement the dress perfectly. That color dress is beautiful on you. FWIW, I also like it with the sheer sleeve top underneath.

Thanks, StaysfitI Good advice on the jewelry, coming from someone whose eclectic jewelry I admire! I think you're right, I might prefer the outfit without the necklace.
