WIW: skirted leggings

Inspired by karymk's post featuring her Eileen Fisher skirted leggings, I wore mine today. I didn't try to copy her outfit (yet!), but her outfit gave me just the nudge I needed to get over my paralysis in deciding what to wear with them. I decided to just do it, as Nike says.

The outfit (worn to work):
Black skirted leggings (Eileen Fisher); red little-floral print mesh tunic (made by me) worn over a black camisole (Shimera); black drape front cardigan (Olivia Sky, from Nordstrom Rack--apparently a cousin of Olivia Moon, carried by Nordstrom); black suede booties (Paul Green); green trench coat (Gallery); sage and multicolor scarf (made by a friend); black satchel (Elliott Lucca, Olvera). This outfit was super comfy, and I felt it was polished enough, for a busy day.
Not sure about the coat. What is a good length to wear over a look that is essentially a mini-skirt?

Thanks for looking! I welcome any comments and suggestions you may have.

The outfit looks super Sharan. I'm dying to see this in person as it's hard to really make out the skirt against the black tights in both your and karymk's pictures. I feel myself getting sucked into this EF vortex with others ;-)

I must have missed the original post about these skirted leggings.  How fun! I love how you have styled them.  I am wondering if you feel like you are wearing a mini skirt?

  • Joyce B replied 5 years ago

They look great and I love them with the booties and flowy top.

  • UmmLila replied 5 years ago

I like how the longer top works over the mini here.

  • Joyce B replied 5 years ago

They look so fab on both you and Karymk that I copied and ordered in two sizes to see which is best...

These leggings again!  I am obsessed with these.  I like very much how you've worn them here, and I think the coat length is fine - although I do know what you mean about the right length over a miniskirt.  Fortunately, I think as long as the coat is longer (obviously) any length will work.  Comfort would dictate for me how long I would go - or how warm I wanted to be.

Well done!  Love the Christmas colors in the floral top!  I think the coat is fine over the leggings -- a mini skirt of that length with bare legs would be a bit racy, but substantial leggings change the game entirely.

    Off to check Karymk's post!

I absolutely love these on you. This outfit is perfect.

  • karymk replied 5 years ago

The coat length is perfect. I love the way your boots work with the leggings too.
You know what? I love the way these can be worn with sandals.  On the next warm day I think I will try that.

Love the length of the sweater over the skirt.  Very cool effect and I am taking note.

Hope this doesn't sound weird, but wow, you've got great legs! :)

#1 is Killer. You really rock those leggings. xo

  • Transcona Shannon replied 5 years ago

Like Lisa, I'm becoming obsessed with these leggings. You and Karymk are rocking them!

  • unfrumped replied 5 years ago

Super way to style them! I like the ling cardi and boots.

I think you need longer coats for your height and long legs. Knee length or just below. You'd look so elegsnt or dramatic or both.

Longer coats are hard to find. Hip and thigh length dominates. I need longer to be warm, but there is not much selection in stores.

Agree that you and Karen are making these leggings look fantastic!

  • Caro in Oz replied 5 years ago

LOVE #1  - the leggings look great on you.

  • Firecracker replied 5 years ago

    Thanks, everyone!
unfrumped, I think I would like a longer coat. They are definitely hard to find. I feel I need different lengths of coats for skirts/dresses and for pants. I like above-knee lengths with pants.

karymk, I think I'll get a lot of wear out of these leggings in warmer weather, too. Sandals are a long way off for me, here!

You look ultra fabulous in those skirted leggings. They were made for you! And speaking of made for you, (or made by you), you know I love the red tunic. I think the coat length is fine, but then I never think about that when wearing coats (maybe I should start?!).

  • jackiec replied 5 years ago

Love those leggings! Really looks good with the column of black like that.

  • Thistle replied 5 years ago

Those leggings look fabulous on you! Love the way the cardi creates a long line of color, too.

  • crutcher replied 5 years ago

Your leggings are TDF...I love your style with the longer sweater and boots...The back view is just as flattering...and with your coat...You totally rock the look...

  • Staysfit replied 5 years ago

You are starting to convert my eye from seeing them only as running gear! I love the look of the floral mesh tunic with the leggings! I think that's what does it.

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

You OWN this look, Sharan. And I LOVE the way you added a very long cardi over the skirted leggings. xo

  • Tania replied 5 years ago

    You totally rock this look!

  • gryffin replied 5 years ago

I adore the whole outfit Firecracker!!  I'd steal the whole things but swap out the top for black/gray (it is after all me!!) but fabulously perfect on you!  Enjoy!!
