WIW: shades of burgundy & gray

Angie's ensemble: Burgundy, Eggplant & Grey Accents has inspired me to try mixing some burgundies with eggplant shades. . . and these outfits are not quite in that realm. Those outfits will have to come later!

Meanwhile, I wore these outfits, mixing harmonious shades of burgundy with gray and black, this weekend, for work and for a day off with a piano recital.

The outfits:
1: Worn for a day off, pre-recital. Deep burgundy jeans, which I have referred to in the past as eggplant (Rag & Bone, Dre); texty print tee in plum, mauve, burgundy, gray, black, and white (made by me); long dark burgundy (mix of burgundy and black yarns) boucle cardigan (Halogen); black belt with ornate buckle (Bed Stu); dangle silver bead earrings; gray suede booties (Paul Green, Delgado).

2: Worn to teach sewing class. Light burgundy ankle pants (Loft); texty plum tee and long burgundy cardigan (as above); black belt; flat black booties (Munro, Lexie); silver pave jewelry (Lucky).

3-5: Worn for piano recital (gotta have flat shoes to play). Trying out different combinations--outfit same as 2, but without the pendant, switched to a silver belt, and trying black loafers (Munro, Kimi), grey shimmer suede oxfords (Naot, Kedma), and mauve ballet flats with black cap toe (AGL).

Thanks for looking! I appreciate any suggestions or feedback. I'm not sure yet which shoes I'll walk out the door in. It will be fun to hear your picks if you have favorites.

You look beautiful! I love that texty print..what I'm seeing that I love is color and pattern. Does it really say something?

Yay for you for the recital!!! I have 4 adults and none of them will play in mine. I wish they would! What did you play? Ours was this past Friday.

They all work well.  I like the outfit with both the booties in 1 and 2, and the flats in 3-5.  I prefer the lower vamp flats in 3 and 5 though.  The bottoms in 1 and 2-5 look similar on my screen but I'm sure they read differently IRL.  I think burgundy is a great color on you including near your face.

I am in admiration of the outfits, colors and the print of your top. Of the piano recital three shoe choices, I'm leaning toward the last one as it looks dressier.

All outfits are great to my mind, but my favorites are #1 ( because of gray suede booties ) and #5 ( like with ballet flats .).

Fantastic outfits! And wow, you play the piano and sew (you know I don't mean at the same time, lol!)? You are so talented!

I like all the renditions with the same tee. Nice! The pattern of the tee is great with your hair, Sharan. I'm going with #1 as my killer favourite.

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate your thoughts and encouragement. I ended up wearing the flat black booties to the recital--so, a version of #2 (without the pendant, and with the silver belt instead of black).

Peri, yes, I'm the oldest of my teacher's students. The recital featured several pianists from age 7 to 13, then, me and the teacher. I played "The Wayside Inn," by Robert Schumann, and the first movement of Sonata 7 (or 16?) in D major by Haydn.
The shirt seems to have some almost legible words, like "peace" and "love," but not many.

Denise, the pants in photo 1 are my Rag & Bone jeans, which I love. All the others are the Loft skinny ankle pants, which are work-friendly (i.e., not jeans). I was leaning toward the loafers if I had gone with shoes instead of the booties.

Mirjana and Joy, I like the look of the ballet flats, too; I was afraid my feet might be cold.

    Karie, LOL!

Angie, thanks! #1 is my favorite, too!

This is a wonderful color palette on you! I love the shirt, and I love your recital outfit. ( I also love the Haydn you played; it's full of joy. I bet many of the younger students were motivated listening to you.)

Windchime, thanks! Full of joy is so right--what a fun piece to play (once I finally learned it)!

That top is fantastic - please add it to my order from MBM! I like it best with the booties, both pairs look good.

What a gorgeous tee on you. Wow! As Angie says, the pattern is fabulous with your hair and the colours also flatter. I really like all the footwear but maybe especially the first pair.

I love that top on you. My fave is no 2. I prefer it over the third outfit because of the low contrast belt and pendant.

  • Astrid replied 8 years ago

Great top! I like the first one best.

Love these shades on you Sharan! I'm going with #1 as my fave too, with #2 next. Fab!

1 is my favorite! I'm a huge fan of booties and love the gray. Love the whole outfit it looks fantastic on you.

Thanks, everyone! All of these pieces are new this season--the two pants, the tee, and cardigan--and I'm really enjoying these colors.
