WIW: plaid and pearls

Here's my outfit inspired by Angie's plaid shirt ensemble post. I am not a big wearer of plaid or of button-up shirts. But I do have a couple of plaid t-shirts (four, if you count blurry-plaid patterns), so I chose my red plaid tee. My animal-print cardi is a nod to the faux-fur topper in Angie's ensemble and to the leopard print toppers that are popping up all over this season. And I put my hair up and wore red lipstick, a la my style icon, Linda Rodin (photo 3).

I'm not sure I will even venture out of the house in this outfit (stormy weather!), but I can at least show it to you all here.

The outfit:
Black skinny frayed hem jeans (Mother, the Looker, Blackbird wash); red, black, and gray plaid tee (made by me); gray fuzzy animal print cardigan (Free People, Out of Africa); studded belt (Suzi Roher); faux pearl collar necklace (Cristabelle); marcasite disc earrings (Lucky); black waterproof moto boots (Blondo).

    Awesome, maximal plaid!

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Fabulous outfit. You do look like a you do Linda Rodin. I really like the colors of your plaid tee on you.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

I like this! It's a bit of a departure for you, but I think it works well.

  • Andrea H replied 7 years ago

Holy moly, you need to find an excuse to go somewhere so someone other than us can see you. That's just fabulous!

  • Windchime replied 7 years ago

Impressed that you managed Angie's pearls and plaid ensemble while also channeling your style icon! I love the animal print cardi and, always, those Blondo boots. I really like your hair up, too. I don't think I've seen it this way before. It's very pretty.

I love this on you Firecracker, and your hair up looks great. You have great bone structure so can carry this look brilliantly.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

Thanks, everyone! Glad you like it.
UmmLila, yes, it is a departure for me--the hair up and the pearls, the preppy plaid. . . .
Andrea H, I went out after all, to the mall. It was perfectly fine out at the time. I bought some booties that I don't need, but they were cute, on sale, and calling my name.
Thanks, Windchime! I feel like I got bonus points!

  • JenniferAnne replied 7 years ago

I love this look! Like Andrea said, it warrants inventing an occasion to wear it out!

  • peacechick replied 7 years ago

Very sophisticated, you're definitely channeling your style icon (omg she has such amazing legs)...

  • Elizabeth P replied 7 years ago

Oh, nice!  Glad you got to show off your supreme pattern mixing skills to the public :)   I really like your hair up like this.

  • JAileen replied 7 years ago

Very nice outfit! I like the plaid and the animal print sweater together.

We got some of your weather. Here, we got some rain yesterday, but mostly just ferocious wind. Almost two dozen houses burned up.

  • Dee replied 7 years ago

I love this! And with your hair up, so you a great version of the inspiration pic.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

    Oh, JAileen, how sad!

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

OMG, you channelled Linda Rodin so beautifully here -- I thought of her the instant I clicked on your first photo, and then there she was! This is such a fun maximal look!

It's a little different than your usual style and I am wondering if this felt good or peculiar to you. It looks fabulous, by the way -- but seems to achieve its maximalism in a different way than you might, typically....you'd go for interesting lines and mixed textures as a rule, and this is more about pattern mixing. Did it feel authentic or less so?

  • Jaime replied 7 years ago

The first picture is fabulous! I love that tee, where can I order it ;) ?

  • Sally replied 7 years ago

I love that look on you. You have channelled Linda Rodin so well. I love love your hair like that.....so sophisticated looking.

  • approprio replied 7 years ago

This is some masterful pattern mixing. I never would have thought of plaid with animal print, but you look amazing. I love that tee! I like your hair like that too.

  • replied 7 years ago

Fantastic! And your hair looks smashing worn up like that. As mine grows back, you've inspired me to shoot for long. You look equal parts edgy and elegant. Very Linda Rodin.

  • susan replied 7 years ago

I love this outfit! You look great!

  • Mirjana replied 7 years ago

I love that look on you, fantastic mix pattern. A few days ago I saw Mango panel with red and black plaid shirt and leopard jacket, wonderful look so when I saw yours really gorgeous. Beautiful cardigan, love it.

  • minimalist replied 7 years ago

Wowzamm! I don't think I've seen a WIW with your hair up before. And I wouldn't have thought to combine plaid with animal, but it looks great; maybe it's the pearls that bring it all together?

And yes, what Suz asked, how did it feel?

  • replied 7 years ago

You look amazing!  The outfit is a wow, and your hair worn up really shows off the outfit to its best advantage.  Five stars!

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

Killer Gorgeous. You nailed it YOUR way, Sharon.

  • Bonnie replied 7 years ago

Love it. Wear it out, you look great!

  • Tanya replied 7 years ago

Love everything about this, Sharan: the pattern mix, the pearls, the lipstick, and the icon, of course :)  You totally nailed it.

  • Runcarla replied 7 years ago

Chart this up as a successful experiment. Nice silhouette and your hair up is very pretty.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

Thank you, everyone, for such nice comments. You've certainly given me confidence about this look.
Suz and minimalist, I feel a little self-conscious wearing my hear up--a little anxious about whether it's all going to come down if I move wrong. But as time went on, I felt more comfortable with it. I feel a bit conspicuous in pearls, too.
Aliona, I'm happy to have inspired you to grow your hair longer. And I appreciate your observation about looking "equal parts edgy and elegant." That's a great description for what I was going for and how it felt.
Mirjana, I will have to look at Mango online for inspiration. I really like that store and I don't know of one around here.

  • Lyn D. replied 7 years ago

    Late but wanted to comment!
This looks very elegant, especially with the up-do and bright lips.
Can I ask how did your hair? - I would like to try this and our hair is similar.

  • Maneera replied 7 years ago

You look so pretty, Sharan. I LOVE this look! And you look great with your hair up!

PS: The lace-up ankle boots are KILLER! I want them too!

  • lyn67 replied 7 years ago

Loved you in the up do&you nailed Linda's outfit your way!:-)

  • Sara L. replied 7 years ago

Great look!  Your looks good worn up.  I think it was really smart too as it allows more focus on the plaid shirt and animal print combo.

  • Inge replied 7 years ago

This is beyond brilliant, Sharan!!! Fantastic pattern mixing. The plaid top and biker boots give it a bit of a punk vibe, in my opinion, which juxtaposes brilliantly with the pearls, and then the animal patterned cardigan adds tons of playfulness. LOVE!!

    (Love your hair up too!)

  • viva replied 7 years ago

You look gorgeous and playful here, Sharan! I have been away for awhile, and when I opened this up, I immediately though, "Whoa! She has got Linda Rodin DOWN. That didn't take long!"  FANTASTIC.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

    Thanks, everyone!
LynD, I pulled my hair into a ponytail (without an elastic) and twisted it, then secured the twist to my head with a barrette. I secured each side with a comb. It's the easiest thing for me to achieve that looks at least a little bit chic, to my eye. I just bought a big decorative clip, too, which is even easier than suing the barrette.

Inge, thanks for your comments. You have such a great way with descriptions. I like your comment about a punk vibe.

Viva, I'm excited that you thought of Linda Rodin right away.

Maneera, glad you like the new boots, too! The lace-up high-tops seem so popular right now, or at least there are a lot of them in the stores. I've already worn them!

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 7 years ago

I see maximal fun with this look and love your inspiration outfit.

  • Lyn D. replied 7 years ago

Thanks FC I will try this soon :)

  • Mamavalveeta03 replied 7 years ago

Love, love, love your inspiration...Linda Rodin... and you nailed it!

  • Staysfit replied 7 years ago

I love this look on you! Wow! It's one of my favorites on you and funny that you want to only wear it around the house. Get up and go out in this! Please!

  • rachylou replied 7 years ago

Omg, probably my fave of yours ever now!!

  • Shehnaz Shirazi replied 7 years ago

Firstly, I must say I am a huge fan of plaid tees due to its versatility. I love wearing all year around. It helps me make easy casual summer outfit but I get stuck in mixing it with colder weather outfit. I see that you know how to make plaid tee perfect as mixing with leopard print, skinny jeans and
blackmoto boots. They go with each other so nicely. Really eye-catching!
