WIW: Neutral spring outfit

Angie's post with neutral spring picks happened to appear on a day I was feeling in the mood for spring neutrals. Today I wore a new jacket that I finished a couple of days ago, and the new blush coat that I decided to keep. I'm very happy with both; they felt great to wear, for a day off and lunch with a friend.

The outfit: Taupe floral denim jacket (made by me); stone-white cotton long-sleeve tee (OSKA); dark maroon-brown herringbone-weave cotton lantern-leg trousers (OSKA); white sneakers (Cole Haan); blush coat (Sosken); blush cross-body bag (Nordstrom).

These are my favorite neutrals, muted, cool-toned, combined in a low-contrast outfit.
Thanks for looking. I welcome your thoughts!

I love this! These are exactly the neutrals I gravitate to as well - I really enjoy how harmonious this color combination is.

    Thank you, Pat!

Loving how you blend in shades of blush and mauve as near-neutrals. And I really like those lantern-leg pants. The shape is just different-enough to be interesting.

MBM jacket I have my eyes on you! I love the flow of the blush coat over it all.

Thank you, Jenn and shevia! I tried another coat over this outfit, but it was hard to fit over the jacket, so I'm glad to have another coat that is roomy enough for this purpose!

Wow, the jacket you made is gorgeous!

    Thank you, RainB!

Your jacket is fab! I love your raincoat. I think it’s really you.

    Thank you, Janet!

Your style is such an inspiration. I LOVE the lantern shaped trousers! Did you make them? I wore thrifted EF lantern silk neutral pants today and felt like a million bucks.

So fresh!! You look great. Nice job on the jacket :)

Stunning. Simply stunning. What a gifted seamstress you are! That jacket is perfection, and the entire outfit is fab

    Fabulous!

The proportions are fabulous, Firecracker.  You've selected some great neutrals.  I'd select the same, except warm tones.  Darling jacket, you almost make me want to think about sewing for myself, again!  (Ha!  We're packed up for a move so any mess-making is stressful.)  I'm going to check out the lantern pants at OSKA.  I have a pair from EF  last year and wore them to death.

I would have never thought to pair those two pieces together, but now I'm thinking to do it soon.

Can I ask about those fab sneakers?  I have bought and given away more pairs of white tennis-style sneaks than I can count, because of my unbelievably fussy feet.  Do you find those Cole Haans comfy?

  • Sara L. replied 5 years ago

I love the new jacket - the fabric and pattern is so great.  The new coat looks fabulous over the pants.  I like the unconventional proportions.

I love the jacket you made, and those lantern legged pants are fab! This cool neutrals palette really appeals to me. The blush coat is a perfect topper for these outfits. Glad you kept it.

    Thank you all!
Joy, I didn't make the pants. They are from OSKA. I chose the jacket fabric with the pants in mind. I bet your EF silk pants are fab.
April, the sneakers are very comfortable. I've tried Ecco 7 in the past, and they rubbed my heel. These do not. And they are so light. They are not super cushiony, and the arch support is, I would say, minimal. And yet, they are just very comfy. I'm wearing them without socks already. I didn't think I would wear white sneakers all that much, but I reach for this pair more than my others right now.
Kim M, good luck with your move!
Kate, I appreciate your validation on the jacket decision.

Wow the floral jacket is a  gorgeous fabric, cut and gorgeously accomplished DIY project! Love the pants, too- very artsy and they make the look! You look so fab and cheery all bundled up for a rainy day in that blush coat with matching bag and white shoes!!!

    Hi Firecracker --

These outfits and colors are so "you" and I just love them!

I should have known you made the jacket in #1...so cool.

ps Looks like you found a great / interesting blush rainjacket to replace the torn one.
