WIW: my take on kimono and denim

Since Angie posted this "Statement Kimono & Denim" ensemble, I've wanted to wear it. My kimono is cropped. I've had trouble wearing it, for lack of under-layers that look good with it. This season I found a tank that is the right shade of taupe to layer with it, so I'm set. I can now pair it with jeans, as Angie suggested, or with pants for work. Today I did both.

The outfits:
1-2: white, gray, taupe, and espresso blurry plaid silk cropped kimono (made by me); taupe tank (A'Nue Ligne); dark cropped flare jeans (Mother, Insider crop); light pewter d'Orsay flats (Walk).
3-4: same tops with stone tencel harem pants (Stella Carakasi); dark pewter lace-up Mary Janes (Trippen); gray backpack (Rebecca Minkoff, quilted Julian).

Thanks for looking! I welcome suggestions and other thoughts.

    Killer x2.

I especially LOVE the first outfit, Sharan. Gorgeous on you. You have a fabulous bottom, and the dainty shoes are yummy.

  • El Cee replied 8 years ago

Both outfits are over-the-top gorgeous! Beautiful kimono. Wow -- I love those stone harem pants. They are stunning on you.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Thank you, Angie and El Cee!

  • JAileen replied 8 years ago

Ooh, I love 3-4! Very very nice!

  • Windchime replied 8 years ago

I can't choose a favorite between these two gorgeous outfits! You look amazing in the harem pants; they and the tank top are a fab color for you. Wow!

Pic # 1 is stunning on you.

  • Beewee replied 8 years ago

I can't decide which one I like more!

  • chewyspaghetti replied 8 years ago

Love the first one. The cropped length of your kimono is really cool!

  • DonnaF replied 8 years ago

Love the outfits, esp. seeing harem pants in stone.  How do they look with the d'orsays?

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

You look terrific in both these looks.  I love them both in different ways.  These colours really are right on you, and look stunning with your hair.  I also like your underlayer here - I am currently needing a couple of these underlayer type tops to support a few pieces - they are not always easy to find!

Last week I could have worn my kimono, but this week it is cold and raining again.  Hrrumph!

Great outfits. I really like your kimono and its length is perfect.

Ever stylish! I think I am partial to look one but certainly wouldn't dismiss number two either.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

    Thanks, everyone!
Sally, too bad about your uncooperative weather. :(

You make taupe and stone colours look so good. I love the kimono with the top and the necklace is perfect with it. Both outfits are great but I am partial to the second because it is more bespoke/original.

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

    Brilliant!

I love both outfits and am very intrigued by the Walk shoes. That is the small Israeli brand isn't it? Did you buy them online or are they being sold in stores?

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Both versions are stunners on you. Perfect from head to toe.

  • Barbara Diane replied 8 years ago

Both looks are wonderful. I love how very different they are.

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

So well done!  I love the footwear, and the way the kimono can be casual and slightly classic in one look and arty in the next.

It's amazing how important a connector piece like your tank can be!

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

I love both of these looks. The kimono is gorgeous and it pairs perfectly with jeans and harems.

  • kellygirl replied 8 years ago

OMG, I love this on you. What a beautiful topper. I have a similar style and find it so hard to style. Your proportions are spot on!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Thanks, everyone, for your kind comments!

Shevia, the Walk shoes are from Israel, and I got them at a local shoe store here. I wouldn't have known of them otherwise, though I did later visit the Etsy site to look around. Are they sold in stores in Israel?

Beth Ann, so right! I thought this fabric would "go with everything," but far from it.

Kelly, you'll have to show us yours!

Crazy about #1!  Right along the lines of Angie's blog post today about the oft-neglected back view.

  • Cerinda replied 8 years ago

You SO rock the neutrals!  I simply adore #3-4.  And yours is the first crop kimono I've seen in (almost) real life.

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

Only one word to describe these... GASP.

I love the first one, but the second truly took my breath away.  This is so perfect for you in every way.  The colours, the proportions, the way you wear it... and what great pants!

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

I really love that first outfit - and your backpack and those pewter shoes - great look.

  • Kristin L replied 8 years ago

Both version look fantastic on you, but I think the 2nd is my fav.

  • Sara L. replied 8 years ago

These are both great!  I love the cropped length of your kimono.  The white harem pants are unusual and I like the soft colors of that outfit.

  • Susie replied 8 years ago

These are both stunning on you, Sharan! You make neutrals looks so elegant and interesting.

  • Mirjana replied 8 years ago

Love the cropped kimono, both outfits are great on you. I don't like harem pants, but on you I adore them, really fantastic, so elegant and unusual outfit. But I prefer #1.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

DonnaF, sorry I missed your question earlier--I do like the flats with the harem pants, though I feel a little bit "I dream of Jeanie" in that combo.

Cerinda, YLF feels like real life, doesn't it? Even those people I haven't met, I feel I know, and the photos aren't just photos in that way.

Mirjana, how sweet of you to say--thank you!

  • RobinF replied 8 years ago

These both look great! I love the cropped length of that kimono, it might be a better look on short-me than a longer one. I think I prefer #1 (those silver shoes!) but #2 also looks great.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Wowowwowow! I love #1 -- so beautiful on you. Once again, a brilliant pattern with your hair/ features and the colours are both subtle and striking.

  • Jenn replied 8 years ago

I love the first outfit, Firecracker! I like the second one, too, for high drama days.  :)

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Thanks for answering Sharan. I believe Walk has one storefront but I did not realize that they are internationally distributed. I learned about them by seeing a pair second hand (natch) and was impressed.

  • skylurker replied 8 years ago

Love the kimono pattern. I have a personal preference for #1 : more structure and dark denim.

  • Thistle replied 8 years ago

Gorgeous! You look terrific in both. You really spice up those neutrals.

  • Mamavalveeta03 replied 8 years ago

Great dressy, but I'm a casual girl, so my favorite is with the jeans. Love how your colors go so well with your gorgeous hair!
