WIW: more skinnies and skirt with leggings

Is it a groove or a rut? More skinnies looks here, in the first two outfits.

And a third outfit in which I paired a skirt with leggings. The skirt is one that I have had trouble wearing, because I can't keep a slip in place underneath it (the slip rides up in about 2 seconds), and the skirt is too see-through to not wear a slip. Don't know why I hadn't thought of wearing leggings with it before. I liked this solution!

The outfits:
1-3 (worn for a day off): teal skinny corduroys (Kut from the Kloth, Diana); dark brown cashmere pullover (Halogen); brown, teal, and ivory mixed print knit infinity scarf (made by me); espresso belt (B-low the belt) and moto boots (Miu Miu); brown and gray wool coat (made by me); espresso and black satchel (Joy Gryson).

4-5 (worn for a day off and to teach a class): navy skinny corduroys (Kut from the Kloth, Diana); blue, ivory, and black silk reptile print tee (made by me); navy merino boyfriend cardigan (Halogen); stone belt (Annette Goertz); gray moto boots (Frye, Lynn); not pictured: green trench (Gallery) and espresso and black satchel. These cords a from a previous season and are a size down from my newer ones. At first I  thought I couldn't wear them anymore, but then I thought they worked okay with a long layer; do you agree?

6-8 (worn to work): black ruffled knit skirt (made by me); black leggings (Halogen); teal long-sleeved crew-neck tee (Caslon); teal plaid eyelash knit long cardigan (Pleione); black flat booties (Munro, Lexie); long black coat (Gallery); espresso and black satchel.

Love this rich palette on you, Firecracker. You can definitely wear the navy Kuts with a longer layer. What a great solution for the skirt that rides up. The leggings look like they belong to the skirt. You certainly own the skinnies/leggings silhouette. You look fab as always!

1-3 You wear this gorgeous teal and brown colour palette so well. This shade of brown doesn't suit me, but seeing your outfit makes me want to try again, with the brown on the bottom, or maybe just as an accent.

4-5 To my eye these cords look fine, especially with the longer cardigan.  Did you feel okay in them? This is another beautiful colour palette.

6-8 Love the stripey eyelash cardi - looks lovely and cosy.

I hope your back is better now.

It is not a rut when you wear it so well. :)

I went straight to the pics before I read the text. And I just gasped when I saw your coat in #3. I knew right away it was from the MBM atelier.

From what I can tell the cords in the second outfit work really well. I LOVE the tee.

So....you are now an expert on this skirted leggings and leggings with skirts thing. Which do you prefer, or do you note a difference?

It's a groove.  Love the outfit and colors and the fit on you  especially in #1 & 4- well, in all of them.  Seriously great.
I just got my first part of Kut cords (but baby bootcuts).  they're super comfortable!

You look terrific in teal and I love the MBM reptile print tee!

Love this set of outfits Firecracker. This is a fantastic colour palette on you. And your eye for proportions always impresses me.

Ah I know the feeling - is it a rut or just a long season?! You do it so well, it could never be a rut! I love your palette! My fav is #4 - the cords are great!

    Kellygirl, thanks!

Ruth, I felt fine in the navy cords. They are a really soft, stretchy fabric, so they were comfy. My back is better, thanks! Almost back to normal.

Suz, thank you! I prefer the skirted leggings for comfort, because of less going on at the waist. However, my skirted leggings do ride down on me--your perennial problem! And I like the look of this skirt better for the length. I made this skirt to fit my waist, whereas the skirted leggings sit below my waist, so they have different looks when I tuck in a top. I felt this outfit really highlighted my high waist and maybe looked a bit odd. But I wanted the neatness of a tucked shirt. I don't think this skirt and leggings duplicates the EF pair; sometimes I wouldn't want the ruffled skirt (the skirt is half-inch ruffles, which you can't really see in the photo--I love the texture, but sometimes smooth might be better).

Thanks, Laurie. Yes, the fabric is so nice on the Kut corduroys; the bootcuts are the same, I think.

shevia and Elizabeth, thank you! Oh, and Jackie, too--we cross-posted.

Love #1. I like how the belt reads as part of the top. Keeps it on the minimal side (and I'm a fan of minimal). And this color combination feels very current.

(But you look fab in all of them!)

These are beautiful outfits on you. I can't pick a favorite. The teal and brown are gorgeous together in 1. The navy cords look fine as styled. Love the reptile print silk tee that you made. The skirt outfit is a feast of the textures that go so well with your hair.

Those teal velvet skinnies are SO PERFECT for you, I can barely stand it, Sharan. You have worn them over and over again - great for Seattle - and each time look more fabulous than the next.

#4 is super slimming, urban and streamlined.

Loving the skirt look too. Have you tried wearing your teal pants with the same tee and cardi?

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

AM, I appreciate your comment on the belt--I like the continuity of that look, too. It was kind of a happy accident, as I was matching my belt to footwear!

    Joy, thank you!

Angie, you're so kind. I have definitely worn the teal cords and sweater, but not with the teal tee that I recall. I'll have to try it--head to toe teal--mmmm!
