WIW: metallic vest

This asymmetrical summer vest is out of a lightweight linen with metallic finish on one side of the fabric. It can be worn as a top, but even then I'll wear a cami underneath, since it's kind of short on its shorter side.

The outfits:

1-2 (for going to breakfast and hanging out at home): asymmetric metallic vest (made by me); ivory layering tee (Tees by Tina); full-length boyfriend jeans (Fidelity, Rocco); metallic ballet flats (AGL).

3-5 (for work this evening): same tops, with black knit harem pants (Eileen Fisher); metallic cutout peep-toe booties (Paul Green).

6: same work outfit, with metallic ballet flats instead of booties. (I decided to go with the booties.)

This outfit feels very me.

Thanks for looking! I look forward to any comments you want to share and will see them after work this evening.

Ooh another fun piece! That strikes me as a top though, I don't get a "vest" sense from it at all. Loooove the look with the long, low-rolled BF jeans in #1/2. The booties would work well there, too. I also like how it looks with the harem pants. Both footwear options look good there. The booties for when you want a dash more trend, and the ballet flats for when you want a little more classic grounding. Oxfords could also be fun there, as a totally unexpected style element.

Oooooh good grief. Look at you in #3 and #5. Cover of the next Vogue.

Killer to the Power of Killer

WOW. That launched me into orbit.

#5 is my favourite, YLF, would you wear it with a white cami instead of the sleeves?

Whoa! So fab. I especially love it with the harem pants. You are so talented. Love this new piece!

Aida, thanks for the ideas! I probably need to add a pair of oxfords to my metallic shoe collection (in addition to the ballet flats and peep-toe booties shown here, I have sling-back Mary Janes). You are right, the "vest" is more of a top, and I do wear it that way, usually with a cami, as Caro suggests. The sewing pattern calls it a vest, though, so I thought I'd "count" it as one for the sake of the summer vest trend that Angie highlighted.

Thanks, Angie, Caro, and kellygirl! Angie, I had to laugh at your comment. Vogue, indeed--ha ha ha! Caro, I do like to wear the top as a top, with a cami--it's soft enough I can layer a jacket over it if need be.

Wow. You are such a brilliant and artsy seamstress! Just wow. The harems and the vest together are plonkworthy!

This is just beautiful on you and so well done. #3/5 are fantastic especially. You look stunning in those shades of metallic/gray up top and it's so wonderful that you can create such interesting pieces. I can't remember if you do this as part of your work or if it's something you do just for yourself, but whichever I hope you keep doing it! (and sharing it)

Want that vest!  It's just the best. Agree you made a good choice with the booties.  I'm a ballet-flat wearer as well but something like the booties or a metallic sneaker or white slip-on, if you need more comfort than a bootie, really seems great with the vibe of the vest.
    WoW!

Ok, now there's drool on my keyboard. The vest/top with your metallic booties and the harem pants is a wonder.

Thanks, all! You are so kind.

Texstyle, I sew for myself but also teach sewing classes. I have taught a class on this top. Glad you are enjoying the handmade clothes!

unfrumped, glad you like the vest. Thanks for the footwear ideas!

Joy, I'm laughing. One of my sewing style muses is near you, I think?--Linda Lee, of Sewing Workshop in Topeka. The vest is one of her patterns.
