WIW: July 4

Well, it's not exactly a patriotic pairing, I'll admit. But here's what I ended up with, given a cooler day than I expected. I thought I'd wear this reddish dress with a blue denim jacket, but chose my olive leather moto instead, for warmth.

I do have on new blue specs; they are bright navy across the top and matte silver everywhere else.

Photo 1--the July 4 outfit (worn out to dinner):
Red-green cross-dyed voile dress (Judy Tampa); olive leather moto jacket (AllSaints); pewter cutout peep-toe booties (Paul Green); sage tumbled glass necklace and bracelet; silver bag with chain trim and strap (Michael Kors).

Also included (photo 2)--is an outfit from the day before yesterday (also worn out to dinner):
Blue jacquard dress (made by me); blue denim jacket (AG, Robyn) (not pictured); nude pumps (AGL) and clutch (J.Crew); gold layered necklaces with silver ring (Madewell).

Thanks for looking! I appreciate your comments and thoughts.

You look gorgeous as always, Sharan! The moto is terrific with the red dress. LOVE the chambray made by you dress--the necklace and those fab shoes are the perfect accessories.

Beautiful and inspiring Sharan.  I hope you had lovely dinners.  Both dresses look gorgeous on you.  Great accessories for both looks.  I have serious footwear envy.

Style perfection! I love the red dress with the olive jacket! Those colors look phenomenal on you! Perfect for a birthday girl! I am still in awe of your sewing skills. Maybe someday I will learn to sew something other than a quilt! I hope you enjoyed your dinners!

Perfection!!! You're one STYLISH bday girl.

I simply love the cohesive, effortless beauty of #1. Dressy perfection! You look great in deep colors, Sharan
#2 is such a lovely polished, casual outfit that I want to steal it! All of it!

Ooh, two gorgeous looks from the birthday girl. You had me at olive and red in #1. Love the combo. I also love the dress you made in #2. I think your accessories are perfect with it. Like StyleFan, I also have shoe envy!

Ah, so the blue dress is not so "impractical" after all. It looks good with this set of accessories too.
I like the new glasses, they look softer.
I see #1 and I think your weather must be even worse than mine, because it looks like a Fall outfit to me :) but otherwise it's a nice palette on you.

A Killer birthday girl from the inside out. Much love to you, sweet Sharan.

So good! I adore that first outfit. And how I wish it were cool enough to wear a biker jacket on the fourth of July here! Happy belated birthday to you!

You look sensational in your "birthday suits," Sharan. You dealt with the weather's vicissitudes brilliantly. Wow, did that olive jacket ever turn out to be a smart purchase for you.

I love the blue dress as well -- so simple and elegant! I can imagine it must have been an interesting tonal mix with the denim jacket. I like the juxtaposition of this with the feminine, dainty shoes.

    Thanks, everyone!
Staysfit, quilts can be hard to make, and time-consuming. I don't attempt those!
Maneera, I love the deep colors of #1, too. It struck me how much more flattering they are on me, when I saw these two photos. I also think the lipstick makes a difference--in photo 2, I'm wearing my new natural-looking shade, which looks to me like no lipstick at all.
Skylurker, so true--now that Angie pointed me toward wearing my denim jacket with it! Thanks for your comment on the glasses. I bought these as a birthday present to myself, and I liked the softer feel of them, too. I will still wear my others; I think it's fun to have a choice.
Jenn, your comment makes me feel better about the cold!
Thanks, Suz, for your comment about the juxtaposition in the second outfit. I think it did work, and it's always helpful to hear thoughts on why. I didn't get a photo of the jacket, because I actually didn't know I needed it till I was heading out the door!

Your new glasses look wonderful -- that's a great color choice.

And of course your "birthday suits" are beautifully styled.  I hope your big day was lots of fun!

I love voile, and it's unexpected and luxe in this color.  You look fabulous -- I'm so accustomed to seeing only shorts and jeans on the 4th!  It wonderful to see you in dresses.

Beautiful outfits and you look really so elelgant , fabulous.

Of course I like that blue dress on you so much...that made by me line just never fails! I sure wish that was in stores!

You look gorgeous. All your outfits have such great colour and texture. I am envious that you can wear a leather jacket in summer.
