WIW: hard edge/soft touch

Today's outfit was inspired by this ensemble idea of Angie's. Maybe the idea is quite loosely interpreted, but the inspiration was there, nevertheless.

The outfit, worn to work: tie-dye-effect knit tunic in neutrals with a diagonal layer in front (made by me); dark gray skinny "scuba" pants with seams down the back and zippers at the back ankle (Halogen, some years ago); brown metallic booties (Donald J. Pliner, last year's Nordstrom Anniversary Sale); brown metal teardrop hoop earrings.

Comments and suggestions are welcome! Thanks for looking!

You make the most amazing clothes. The end.

Ooh, really love this!  The tunic is gorgeous, such a beautiful print.

I love this on you. I really like how your made items aren't too crafty, if you know what I mean.

Wow, that tunic is amazing! Love the whole ensemble on you.

    That tunic is fantastic!

I think I need that tunic too - you look lovely & the title is perfect :)

Fantastic FC! Love the tunic! Did you tie dye the fabric yourself? Or did you buy it like that?

Fabulous tunic. It has quite an Allsaints vibe to it. You are one clever lady.

Beautiful and so harmonious with your colouring. I am also feeling guilty -- you wear your Pliner booties so much more (and better) than I wear mine. I knew they would be a once-in-a-while indulgence for me, but didn't take in quite how infrequently I would wear. Now I know...

You look really lovely. The colors and proportions suit you perfectly. Your outfits are always a treat to my eyes :)

Lovely tunic! I'm always a big fan of things that combine black with coppery shades and don't see them around nearly enough. But you can get around that by just making your own versions!

I really love this outfit on you. You make the most beautiful and interesting things. The diagonal section makes this tee look designer. Did you dye the fabric?

    Awesome tunic.

The tunic is like a beautiful abstract landscape painting and looks lovely on you with the colors and interesting layer effect. I really like how you styled it with the scuba pants and booties.

I love the colors in your top!

Fantastic!! Do you see for yourself or for your career? I'm so envious of you and Diane!

  • Mo replied 9 years ago

I love all the tops you make. They catch my eye and I go to your post to see where I can get one, only to see it's your own creation! How cool.

    abc, that's so nice--thank you!

Anna, I do know what you mean, thanks! I also look for that quality in ready-made--arty but not crafty.

DianeG and Joy, I did not dye the fabric; I bought it that way. I've never dyed anything, actually.

Peri, I sew for myself, but I also have a part-time job at a sewing machine store, where I sell sewing machines and teach sewing classes. So I have managed to find work that incorporates my love of sewing.

Suz, I feel I don't wear my Donald Pliners nearly as much as I thought I would, either. And I considered wearing my metallic high-top sneakers with this outfit. But I liked the bit of fierceness that the booties give here. I really do want to wear the Pliners more; they are comfortable! I'm going to try to keep them in mind going into the fall again.

Well, that's terrific!  Love the diagonal and the slight drape.  Can we talk fabric sources sometime?

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

Ahh, so gorgeous! This tunic glows on you! I think the black cardigan in the other post contributes to the "heavy" feel of the shoes. I LOVE this top on you. The outfit is amazing!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Thanks, Cerinda! I just listed some of my fabric sources on this other thread. Oh, and I also like District Fabrics in Seattle, too. Next time you're up this way, I'd love to go fabric shopping with you!

    Killer

You are Madame MAD Glam. xo

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

You really should be a clothing designer, seriously. Your tops are just unbelievably cool.

  • replied 9 years ago

You get hold of the coolest fabrics. I would love to come fabric shopping with you too!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Oh, Diane, we could get into some serious trouble in fabric stores, couldn't we?

Gigi, thank you! I would love to be a designer, except I don't want to work that hard. ;)

Angie, thank you! I feel like this is a no-fail combo for me--skinnies and a tunic and some great footwear. I just need to remember it when I'm stuck.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

That's a beautiful tunic!! And of course its made by you! Where do you buy fabrics from Firecracker? You always have such fantastic tops that I want to steal off you :D

  • replied 9 years ago

Beautiful tunic! I love the outfits you put together.

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

What a gorgeous tunic! "Made by Me" has to be your brand now :)  I love the fabrics you select and the modern, cool styles you put together so artistically.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

    Thanks, all!

Neel, these are my main fabric sources:
    Marcy Tilton: http://www.marcytilton.com.
I love her selection. It can be hard to gauge color on her site, though
I've found them pretty true to life. I have a Pantone shopping guide
that I use to select fabrics at emmaonesock.com, where the owner, Linda Podeitz, gives the color codes. I use a lot of patterns from The Sewing Workshop,
owned by Linda Lee, which has a great selection of fabric, too. I also have some great
local fabric stores: Nancy's Sewing Basket, Pacific Fabrics, District Fabrics.
