WIW: casual holiday party and other "festive" wear

We had our holiday party at work this week , and my coworkers and I played elves, handing out door prizes. (It was actual work for us, a customer appreciation party.) Still trying to keep things festive throughout the month, with small touches (perhaps barely discernible to others!).

1-2: holiday party outfit. Black harem pants (Eileen Fisher); red plaid t-shirt (made by me); dark red cashmere v-neck pullover (which I cropped); black suede booties with gray cuff (Paul Green). Red nail polish (Deborah Lippmann, Stand by Your Man). Also red lipstick (Laura Mercier, Cranberry stick gloss).
3-4: worn to work. Black skirted leggings (Eileen Fisher); black, gray, and white print knit angled hem tunic (made by me); black raw-edged jacket with loop front, looped around my neck (Veronique Miljkovitch); gray suede booties (Paul Green); silver dangly beaded earrings and red nail polish.
5-7: worn for a day off and shopping, in the rain. Black skinny jeans (Eileen Fisher); aqua merino stepped-hem sweater (Eileen Fisher); cream print scarf; gray moto boots (Frye, Lynn); taupe trench (Calvin Klein); black satchel (Elliott Lucca, Olvera); red nail polish.

In 6, I'm wearing the wine colored lace-up boots I bought while out (Josef Seibel, Sandra 14). I was wanting a pair of lug-soled boots for slippery sidewalks, for winter travel.
In 7, I'm also showing what I looked like tromping around in the rain, with my hood up--I took the photo right after I arrived back home, with raindrops still clinging to my hood. Nothing says "holiday season" like a dark, rainy day full of bustling shoppers, right?

Thanks for looking! I appreciate your thoughts and comments.

I can't pick a favorite - they are all very different and all look terrific. Longer hair looks good too!

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 8 years ago

I like the elfin harem pants!

  • L'Abeille replied 8 years ago

Wow I LOVE the tartan underlayer peeking out from the cropped sweater. Do you plan other combos with that t shirt? Or you could just keep rewearing this one ad infinitum.

  • Diana replied 8 years ago

All of these outfits are incredible! I can't choose a favorite.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

L'Abeille, I thought I might wear the tartan tee under my black sequin top sometime during the holiday season--it has cap sleeves and a band at the waist. The sequin top isn't as warm as a sweater, though.

  • Peri replied 8 years ago

Love them all of course, but my favorite this time is 5-6. Just because I've never seen you in that color and it looks beautiful!

  • MsMaven replied 8 years ago

Wow indeed! I love your holiday party outfit, # 1&2. Perfection in my book. Good rain outfit too. Until I read the description I thought maybe you added holiday sequins--or did you?

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Nope, MsMaven, the sparkles on my trench coat are raindrops. But that's a good idea--we can think of them as sequins.

I love the harem pants outfit. I have a similar outfit pinned. Are they comfortable or do they make you walk like a geisha? Would you wear them in warmer weather? I also love your coat outfit but the holiday season here is hot and bright!

(We went to an art gallery and holiday dinner - all dolled up - last night in the pouring rain too. It was SOGGY. But festive and we did not let anything damped our spirits. Umbrellas and hoods all the way).

WOW. I hereby crown you Queen Diagonal Line. You look sensational as always, Sharan. I especially love #1. It's Killer to the power of Killer.

  • shedev replied 8 years ago

I love the elfen look, very fun.

  • Mirjana replied 8 years ago

Love them all of course, especially love #3, this time my favorite.

  • JAileen replied 8 years ago

I really love 3/4 and 5/6. I love the zig zag hems of 3/4. I still haven't worn my EF skirted leggings, but your outfit is very inspiring. 5/6 is just pretty on you. I like the color and the scarf. Very nice!

    Thanks, everyone!
Peri, I bought that Eileen Fisher sweater for the color. I find it a hard neckline to wear (it's wide and hence, drafty, in cooler weather), but I persist and find ways to layer under and over it, because I love the color.
    Angie, wow--thanks!
Brooklyn, the harem pants are very comfy and easy to walk in. The only thing that sometimes bugs me is that I can't cross my legs when sitting in them. They are a favorite of mine to take traveling, because I can hike up the legs, and they look like a bubble-hem skirt, so they give me two garments for the space of one! I wear them mostly in warmer weather; here I've layered them over tights, because the fabric is quite light.

Awesome outfits! Love the harem pants with the plaid top. So festive! The tunic in 2 is awesome--great silhouette! Fun to see you in aqua--you do pastels just as well as you do neutrals!

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

You look terrific Firecracker, what awesome looks!
I love your festive Christmas look, and the asymmetric layering in the second look.

It has been very warm here recently but today it is raining so my festive look share the dampness with the Seattle crew:)

  • kerlyn replied 8 years ago

Love all of these, Sharan!  I'm looking to you for inspiration...just bought my first diagonal hem tunic on super low clearance.  Now I'm really excited to wear it!

  • unfrumped replied 8 years ago

    #1 is fab and clever!

Despite your being Queen moody colors, that aqua outfit looks fresh and fun.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Aw, thanks, everyone! Maybe I'll bust out some more aqua tomorrow. And with my nails still painted berry red, it will look festive.

  • Bonnie replied 8 years ago

All of your outfits are great but my favorite is #1 - beautiful colors and the harem pants make it fun and festive.

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

Wow Sharan....you're looking so amazing in all of these that I can't pick a favourite! I adore #1 - what a festive outfit! The diagonal lines created in outfit 2 makes it so dynamic and intriguing, and you play very well with the layers.

I love the simplicity of your shopping outfit & particularly like #6 with the new boots. Perfect fit on those jeans & sweater btw

  • anne replied 8 years ago

Great outfits, Sharan. My favourite is the first one with the tartan and the very elf reminiscent boots - but I like them all!

  • Debbie replied 8 years ago

I love one and three. Those harem pants look wonderful on you.

  • Brooklyn replied 8 years ago

Now I really really want those harem pants. A bubble skirt too? I am in love.

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Wow, those harem pants make the outfit in nr.1 not to speak about game of the hemlines(which are great in nr 3-4,too- and all- in fact:-)). Loved the hooded up version of your rainy look, all great here, as always!:-)

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Fabulous outfits! #1 is absolutely knock out on you. Love you in the tartan. And #2 is also a complete winner. Love your diagonal layering.

Are the new wine boots waterproof as well?

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Suz, the new boots aren't waterproof, but the saleswoman sprayed them for me. I was wanting waterproof, too, but I think these will be fine. They are leather, lined in a synthetic fur, and the seams look like they'll keep water out.

  • Cerinda replied 8 years ago

Love them all but especially the first.  What a pleasant shock to see you in mint!

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

Great outfits. I love the way you have layered the sweater over the plaid tee in no 1. and paired it with harem pants. Your diagonal top is fab too. I'm always amazed at the items you make yourself! Very clever.

  • Elly replied 8 years ago

I always love your hand-made asymetrical tunics over your skirted leggings!

  • replied 8 years ago

How did I miss this post? Love, love, love the diagonal plaid under the cropped sweater and also the fab layered tunic in the second look. The scarf in outfit #3 is just beautiful.

  • Cassie Lyons replied 8 years ago

Love the jacket, the aqua/mint? sweater, and all of your outfits you look wonderful! I also have the skirted legging. :)

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

You make Eileen Fisher work for you!  Love those pieces!  Your first outfit makes me really happy, with it's traditional holiday red and plaid, paired with a modern twist in the trouser.  I'm also loving the blue with the light scarf -- great choice for a rainy day!

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

    Not one missed beat! Superior!
