WIW: boyfriend jeans, then and now

Here are a couple of then-and-now looks, with boyfriend jeans. Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose!

I think YLF introduced me to boyfriend jeans, when they became a trend. I loved the idea of them then, and I love them now. I searched high and low for just the right style for me. My first love was a pair by Fidelity.

2013 (photos 1-2): The Fidelity boyfriend jeans, with a black, gray, and cream blurry-starry print long-sleeved tee (made by me), a gray quilted leather peplum jacket (Halogen), black shimmer-suede oxfords (Naya), and a studded statement-buckle jeans belt (Bed Stu). [the jacket in photo 2 is different, but I wanted you to see the back of the jeans.]

& 2019 (photo 3): Same tee as above, with new favorite boyfriend jeans, a slimmer style with slightly higher rise (Citizens of Humanity, Emerson), fuzzy animal print cardigan in cream and gray (Free People), a newer favorite studded jeans belt (Suzi Roher), and black Chelsea boots (Dune London).

2014 (photos 4-5): Fidelity boyfriend jeans, ivory long sleeved tee (Caslon), metallic linen asymmetrical vest (made by me), taupe belt, belted ballet flats (AGL).

& 2017 (photos 6-7): Citizens of Humanity boyfriend jeans, teal long sleeved tee (Caslon), ivory boiled-wool vest (made by me), brown lace-up booties (Jo Ghost). Vest is from the same pattern as the one above.

2014 (photos 8-9): Slim dark boyfriend jeans (KUT, Catherine--a YLF favorite!), with a long sleeved tee (Caslon) and print boiled-wool cap-sleeve top (made by me), metallic high-top sneakers (Paul Green).

& 2019 (photos 10-11): Slim higher-rise dark boyfriend jeans (AG), with pattern-striped cotton cap-sleeve top (made by me), metallic snake-print sling-back booties (Gentle Souls). Top made from the same pattern as the one above.

This was a fun idea--thanks, Carla! I welcome any comments or observations you all wish to share.

    Work it! Just superb!

You have such an unique, enviable style and I love every outfit but #3 is my favorite.

  • Angie replied 4 years ago

My dear, Sharan. You rock it all, and show tremendous consistency in your KILLER style. Yet it has evolved to a sharper level that is EVEN better - and your short hair is the bomb!

Great collection. My favorites are #6-7 ( fab vest ),10-11 ( what a fun top! ). Love short haircut on you.

Gorgeous! I have major jeans envy for that last pair especially!

Boyfriend jeans have really stood the test of time for you (and for me). I like the subtle update in your newer jeans. The newest are my favorite but is that just because they look current now? Probably.

Your style gets better and better as the years went on ;) Love the studded belt and boyfriend jeans in photo 3.

    Thanks, everyone!
Shevia, I like the newest boyfriend jeans (AG) the best, too! I like the higher rise on them and the dark wash. I still wear the Citizens of Humanity Emersons in the lighter wash, too, but the rise feels less current to me.
Angie, thank you! Going through the old photos gives quite a review of my hairstyles over these past years. I prefer my new short cut, too.
Bonnie, that outfit was part of my "very me week" series. It is still a very "me" outfit, though I've been liking my shorter sweaters more lately. That t-shirt is still a favorite, though. Hope it doesn't wear out before I tire of it.

Great collection. I like boyfriend jeans and the newest are really fantastic, maybe as I like dark blue jeans. My favorites are #3 and #10. Your hair is so cute.

  • RobinF replied 4 years ago

Fun comparisons! The earlier jeans look so big to me! But you always have great style and I love how you mix in your handmade items.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 4 years ago

Thanks, Mirjana! I really like the new dark ones, too. Dark boyfriend jeans are hard to find. So many of them are made with the distressed look.
RobinF, I agree the first boyfriend jeans were quite big and baggy. Not really flattering by any measure. I liked them in spite of it--ha!

i can see why you love BF jeans. they were made for you style, and you look fab in all versions! and love seeing all the different haircuts!
(and even though i love them all, i most admit to loving #3 the most!)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 4 years ago

    Aw, thanks, kkards!

I adore BF jeans, too. And you look amazing in them at all times, but in the newer slimmer ones in particular. Loving your shorter hair, too. Does it feel like a good change to you? You spent a while growing it out, so wondering at your experience!

  • Style Fan replied 4 years ago

I am another fan of BF jeans.  I have the same Fidelity BF jeans.  I also have the Free People animal print cardigan in a different colour.
I love all your outfits and jeans.  I am favouring the newer slimmer ones as well.  Great hair!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 4 years ago

Suz, thanks! I really do like the shorter cut. I considered going shorter for quite a while, but I was reluctant, after taking so long to grow it out, as you astutely observed. So I first went to a shag, which I really liked, yet after a while I again wanted something shorter. When I finally decided to go much shorter (skipping right past the chin-length bob that I wore for what seemed ages, pre-grow-out), I loved it right away. I don't know if I'll go long again or not. Short hair just seems very much my style. I was so afraid I wouldn't like it short with my aging face, but I am happy to find I like it much better on me than long hair.

StyleFan, thank you! And no wonder I like your style so much. I also have the Free People cardigan in the brown and black version. I think those colors are better for you than for me, but both versions of the sweater are favorites of mine.

Another huge fan of bf jeans! And what a score to find dark wash ones!! I love the ways you have styled them - you have such an incredible knack for layering!

I like the new ones most too, but as always my favorite things are the ones you made! Love the haircut too :)
