WIW: another blue dress

I've made a third denim-y blue dress. This one is sleeveless, so again, I must be creative to find ways to wear the dress in environments where I need more arm coverage, since I get cold easily. (I love dresses, but I often find them hard to wear for this reason--I need a layer or a second layer on my arms to stay warm.)

I finished the dress in the midst of a heat wave yesterday, and today it's cool enough that I am wearing it with a long-sleeved t-shirt underneath. Not optimal (it looks better sleeveless), but a compromise so I can wear it!
The jacket is for outdoors, or if A/C is freezing.

The outfit (worn to work):
Light denim sleeveless shirtdress with 3/4 gathered skirt, shirt-tail hem (longer in the back) (made by me); ivory long sleeved tee (Caslon); navy sneakers (Paul Green); stone denim jacket (French Dressing Jeans); ivory and taupe bag (Fossil).

Thanks for looking! I appreciate your thoughts and suggestions!

Cute dress! I especially love it worn with the sneakers and denim jacket in #3... a fabulous casual look. (I am in awe of your sewing skills.)

Very cute dress.  It looks like it affords you LOTS of styling options; Nice proportions with the jacket.

Is the dress a Grainline Alder?   It looks great in the lightweight denim, and clever to layer a long-sleeved shirt under.  I have made several Alders (and even worn them in Winter) but never thought of that.   Love it with the zippered sneaks, too.  Great outfit.

Thanks, El Cee, Cerinda, and Runs With Scissors! Yes, it's the Grainline Alder dress. This is my second attempt. The first one came out very cute, but too small across the shoulders, despite my measuring and planning. Oh, well!

The dress is really very nice, love shirt-tail hem. My favorite is #3
    a fabulous casual look.

You are ADORABLE in #3. I could just eat you up, Sharan. But I like all the renditions here. Very fun.

Good grief. Heat wave yesterday, and an Autumn day today. Crazy weather.

Super cute dress and I like the way you styled it. I think it would look good with a striped tee, too.

I really like the fabric you chose for the dress and the shirt-tail hem! My favorite of these stylings is with the white denim jacket--so cute! When the weather warms up again, can you post it without the shirt underneath? I'd love to see it.

    Thanks, all!
Windchime, thank you--I'll show it worn sleeveless one day, too.
Bonnie, I thought of you with this dress; it seems your style!

Super cute (I especially like with the jacket)--what a great talent!

Great dress and versatile. You are on a roll!

Amazing! Love your outfit with the jacket & the sneakers....right up my alley :)

So cute with the sneakers and white jean jacket. Another winning design by Sharan.

What about a short sleeved t-shirt under (coloured-red?) vs the long sleeved. Show some arm skin to match leg skin for a little balance? Love #3.

  • Sal replied 7 years ago

I really like it, I love the fabric and the hem!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

Maneera, you're right--it is up your alley, isn't it? Before YLF, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have worn sneakers with a dress.
Carla, good idea! The thought of bare arms on a non-hot day makes me shiver a little bit, but it wouldn't hurt to try, would it? :)

I love it best with the long sleeved tee and the jacket in #3 - the perfect all season dress!

  • Jenava replied 7 years ago

Soooo cute. Just the right mix of feminine and sporty, with a nice texture from the denim for your signature sophistication.

  • Bonnie replied 7 years ago

I would definitely wear this dress if I wore dresses. Denim is so versatile.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

    Thanks, all!

Nice dress! I can see this being very versatile in the transitional season, layered over, under and in between as you've done here.

Have you tried wearing it open over skinny jeans and a tee as a sort of double denim lagenlook? That could be cool.

Cute dress, I like it best with the jeans jacket.

It looks good on you.  I especially like it with your white denim jacket in #3.

You know, this dress is almost the same shape as one of my eShakti dresses. I find it really versatile, but I've never tried it with a layer underneath! I like your pairing with the sneakers. You look youthful and energetic.

This is super cute. I have a dress very similar to that (a light weight denim) that is sleeveless that I wear very similarly to how you have styled it -- with a Tee beneath or with a white denim jacket. I find it extremely versatile and comfortable. For me, it's a summer workhorse. You are so talented.
