WIW: all the cool colors

Today I'm wearing a closet orphan--a blue sheer-yoke knit top that I bought on sale near the beginning of the year and have never worn until now. I thought it would go with a couple of specific things in my closet, and when it didn't, I thought I might wear it anyway. And then I didn't wear it. But I had waited so long, I thought I shouldn't return it. So it languished. I took a look at it again with this skirt and felt like the colors were close enough to work. I'm leaving the house in the outfit and wearing it to work.

Yesterday's outfit also has a lot of color, eggplant and olive--yum! Sounds like an Italian dish, doesn't it?

The outfits:
1-4 (worn to work): blue and wine batik crinkled rayon 6-gored skirt (made by me); blue knit top with sheer yoke (Halogen); beige cotton utility jacket (Caslon); metallic cutout peep-toe booties (Paul Green); twisted silver dangle hoop earrings; taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles).

5-7 (worn to work, to teach classes): purple and beige micro houndstooth check cotton cowl-neck blouse (made by me); olive skinny boyfriend chinos with brass studs down the sides (Lucky); stone and cream belt (Annette Goertz); brass-wrapped silver front-facing hoops (Marjorie Baer); olive jacket (Laundry by Shelli Segal); taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles).

Comments and suggestions are welcome! Thanks for looking!

Wow, they're all great, but I really love the first one, it's my favorite. The color is amazing on you and I like It with the contrasting utility jacket as well. It adds a modern touch. Nice!

I also love the utility jacket with the twirly skirt! And lovely color combinations in both outfits. Eggplant and olive, mmmm.

I like the look of the look of the twirly skirt with the jacket. The detailing on the purple shirt is cool.

I love the purple and green! It's one of my favorite color combinations and it looks great on you.

Great colour combinations.  Your orphaned shirt looks perfect with the skirt.

Love the twirly skirt. It's a perfect length and those shoes continue to amaze- they make your outfits fab. I think the shirt goes well but is a little plain, maybe due to the straight hem, in a way that I struggle with as to how to add some edge and feel more modern when I am wearing a top out over a skirt. The sandals do that, I think, and the jacket. A kind of moto or
bomber might also, or a shorter vest.

I love how you have captured the swishy skirt in pic 1 ^_^ super fun! I also love it with the topper and sandals. And that top in the second outfit .... Is a beautiful and unique color and style. Suits you so well. And the color combo is lovely for fall :)

Looking good!! That is such a great shot in #1 with the motion of the skirt. Love the look - love the sandals, and love the jacket on top of all the blue. And the colours of eggplant & olive...what can I say? Yum :)

The blues are beautiful on you!

  • AJ replied 9 years ago

First outfit is beautiful! I like the combo of the cool blues with the warm tones in the topper, bag, and shoes!

FWIW, when looking at both outfits, I think I prefer necklines that show your collarbone.

Your sewing creations never cease to wow me!

Good work rescuing your orphan!  I love the blue on you, and I wonder if the top might not work with the olive pants?

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Both outfits are gorgeous. I love the way you caught the skirt in motion! The jacket and shoes bookend each other nicely in #1. Way to go in rescuing an orphan!

  • Mona replied 9 years ago

The skirt and jacket combo in first outfit is lovely. I also love the top and hope you wear it more often.
The second outfit is a perfect muted colour combo. Yum! Yum!

Your twirly photo in #1 is adorable. Great that you wore an orphan top and made it work so well, Sharan. Fab outfit.

LOVE #5. A modern take on the '50s. I vote killer. xo

I'm over the moon for your top in #5 - the whole look in fact. That is SUCH a great top- very unique, great colour, perfect fabric choice - love , love , love it with the olive pants (my favourite pants of yours) !

  • texstyle replied 9 years ago

I really like the blues on you too - with the jacket, it adds a perfect casual touch to the outfit. #5 is really fun and cute too!

Thanks, everyone! I'm so glad you like these outfits and glad for your suggestions.
Angie, I'm flattered by your K rating on the olive and eggplant outfit. I hesitated to wear it, because I'm often stumped on how to wear that style of top. (And I have four that I've made.)
AJ, I see what you mean about the flattery of a collarbone showing. So much of the year I'm cold here if I do that!
Unfrumped, thanks for your thoughts on making skirts and tops look current. You know that's something I struggle with! This blue top has a shirt-tail shaped hem, which doesn't show well in the photos, but I agree a shorter jacket or a little tougher looking one would improve the look.
lisap, thanks for the shirt (and pants) love. The fabric was actually identified as Burberry by the seller, and it's a beautiful quality shirting.

LOVE look one on you! You look fantastic.

Beth Ann, forgot to say, yes, the top will go with the pants! Thank you!
