WIW: a fall-back formula for teaching

Today for a sewing class, I fell back on an outfit formula that is pretty easy to put together: a self-made tee, with pants, a topper, and comfortable shoes. I like to wear something I've made, and I have made a lot of fun t-shirts.

Today's version: rayon knit tee in blues and taupes with surplice top and 3/4 sleeves (made by me); blue boyfriend chinos (Eddie Bauer); beige cotton utility jacket (Caslon); pewter leather cutout belt (Fossil); metallic cap-toe ballet flats (AGL); brown and taupe faux-croc leather tote (Brahmin); blue ceramic bead earrings.

Thoughts or suggestions are welcome! Thanks for looking.

Really lovely - I enjoy  this outfit a lot!  I like how the jacket's structured high neck sharpens everything up - that is a great piece and must be useful.  Beautiful blues in the print t too.

I like this outfit a lot. I like the military/safari of the jacket that gets a much more polished appearance because it is in such a light colour, and the metallic accent on the shoes is a great touch.

Your wonderful tees must be an inspiration to your students. This looks perfect for fall.

YLF - the collar of the jacket is great on you :)
Love the colours too, they look so calm yet interesting.

I'm swooning over your color scheme too Sharan. Gorgeous blues, beiges and taupes. The metallic accessories are just the right finishing touch!

Terrific top.  Why did I not realize you are a sewist?!

This is your color palette! You wear these muted colors beautifully! And I love the proportions in this outfit. The jacket especially is fun with the shoes.

I love everything about this outfit. It's whimsy yet structured enough for me. I also love the color palette and the bag/shoe combination! The jacket is simply perfect -- I love the shaping around the waist. It's the perfect piece to pull the pants and top together nicely. You have an excellent formula for polishing up a whimsy tee. I'm taking notes.

Love your palette (as usual) and really like that topper. Great fit, great colour, nice structure. Everything looks great as usual (and love the belt - we are belt twins ;) )

Thanks, everyone! I like the jacket, too. It's not as much of a workhorse as I had hoped for the summer, but maybe it will continue to get more wear going into the fall!
    High five, Jackie!
Day Vies, I'm flattered that you're taking notes. I certainly take a lot of mental notes from you.
Karie, fly me out and give me lodging, and I'll throw in some classes for free! (Seriously, sometimes I think it would be so fun to teach just for airfare and lodging, if I got to travel to fun places!)
