WIW: 2 holiday outfits--faux fur and wine-out

To go out to dinner this week for our anniversary celebration, I tried a version of Angie's Easy Faux Fur Vest ensemble. Then I made a subdued attempt at a festive yet warm outfit--a wine-out look!--for a holiday piano recital and shopping party. Here are the outfits. . .

Photo 1 (worn for the anniversary dinner): burgundy cozy knit cowl-neck dress (Bobeau), espresso sweater tights (Smartwool); faux fur vest (made by me); sparkly layered necklace (Lucky); espresso moto boots (Miu Miu). Not pictured: navy trench (London Fog); black cross body bag (Rebecca Minkoff); black newsboy cap.

Photo 2 (worn for piano recital and holiday shopping party): Wine corduroy skinnies (Kut from the Kloth, Diana); wine silk blouse, wool pullover sweater, and scarf (Eileen Fisher); wine patent oxfords (AGL). Not pictured: taupe trench (Calvin Klein); black crossbody bag (Rebecca MInkoff).

Thanks for looking! I welcome your thoughts.

Wow I love the first outfit! The wine out looks (and sounds) fantastic too. Love the skinnies with oxfords. But the furry vest is sensational!

Super glamorous and gorgeous! That fur vest is divine on you. Lovely x 2! You have fab style!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

    Thanks, you two!

Oh, maybe I should add that in pic 2, I kinda copied Jenn's hairstyle.

I love the fur vest outfit! ( But then, I love my fur vest lol)

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

Love both fits but that vest!!!!

Your skills are beyond love the color mix in it.

  • Maneera replied 7 years ago

No one does Winter Glam like you, Sharan. I love both outfits. Very sharp and very YOU! <3

You look sensational! Really love all the details in outfit one and in outfit two the oxfords are great.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

    Thanks, all!
Chewyspaghetti, it's great when you find just the right faux fur vest, isn't it?
Ledonna, when I saw the mix of colors (and texture) in this faux-fur fabric, I knew it had to be mine. I made the vest maybe 5 years ago.
Maneera, that is so sweet of you--thanks!
jlpp, I was inspired to wear the oxfords by Angie's recent post that suggested shiny oxfords for a holiday look. The light-bulb went on!

    Both are superb.

The vest really complements the contrast between your hair and frames, and you look fab in burgundy. Maneera's comments about you looking "glam" and "sharp" are on point.

Thanks gradfashionista! I love this shade of burgundy and was excited to discover I could put together an outfit of it head to toe.

  • rachylou replied 7 years ago

Ok. Now that's a furry vest! High fashion!

  • Mirjana replied 7 years ago

Gorgeous as always, I adore both outfits, furry vest is fantastic and burgundy suit you really nice, you look wonderful.Happy Anniversary.

Outfits fab but can I just say I love your hair a bit longer! I've always had mine about that length and wear it up quite a bit, just as you are lately. Versatile, yes, so pretty!

  • El Cee replied 7 years ago

Both outfits are stunning and very chic... and your hair looks gorgeous!

  • Tanya replied 7 years ago

What a gorgeous vest, and I love how you layered it over the sweater dress.  The burgundy-out is beautiful as well.   I find myself wearing lots of burgundy during the holiday season and am glad I am not the only one,

  • Alexandra replied 7 years ago

Great outfits! I especially like the wine-out (hehe, what a fun name). There's something really lovely and subtle about the texture and sheen.

  • Lisa replied 7 years ago

Happy Anniversary!  You nailed that vest look, it's one of my favorite outfits I've seen you post yet.  And wine colors look great on you too.

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Wow! Your outfits are always a special treat. The furry vest is swoon worthy. You MADE it!?!? It fits do well. I wish I could slim the silouette of my similar vest a bit to look like yours.
I'm also over the moon seeing your wine-out look. How are those Kut cords holding up? Holding their shape after several washings? I keep eyeing them but have been burned by cords before.

  • JAileen replied 7 years ago

Wine is a great color for you. I love the outfit. And the other outfit is fun for your anniversary. I hope you had a nice celebration.

Woah! Both outfits are wonderful. I love your furry, memade vest over the wine sweater dress. The bling looks great with it. Also the wine-out is fab. The blouse fabric peeking out under your sweater and the scarf add a delicateness and detail to the look.

  • Bonnie replied 7 years ago

I really like both outfits. I think I need a wine dress and top to wear this holiday season - they make the outfits look festive. Of course, the vest is the star and you made it!!

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

WOW. #1 is Killer to the Power of Killer. That vest is stunning with your hair. Happy Anniversary!

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Holy moly, Sharan, that first outfit is incredible on you! The way the faux fur brings out the textures/ colours of your hair -- just gorgeous!!!!! What a perfect outfit for an anniversary. You looked beautiful and individual and special in every way. Lucky partner!

I love the second outfit on you also -- it's a gorgeous colour for you.

    Happy holidays!!

    Thanks, everyone!
Joy, I will confess I haven't washed this pair of Kut Diana skinnies yet, but I have four other pairs of them from previous years, and I find they wear very well. The fabric keeps its pile, and they don't bag out when I wear them. Super comfy, too. I had to pounce on the burgundy color this year; I didn't like the red shade as well the last couple of years, and I'm glad I waited.

sharan.  your outfits have that quality that your style journey is evolving.  i can't put my finger on it...more structure?  more rock and roll in the shoes, less folk? citified? i don't know what it is but it sure looks good on you.

  • PJ replied 7 years ago

The first outfit look chic yet cozy. Love your necklace too !! So sophisticate !!

  • cindysmith replied 7 years ago

Love these 'fits! They're rich looking. The vest just looks so cuddly and yet so glam, and the wine colored outfit is very luxe

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

    Thanks, everyone!
Ruth, I appreciate your thoughtful comment on my style evolution. I'm not sure what's changed (hard to see it in myself), but style is definitely a journey, isn't it? and a fun one. :)

  • Brooklyn replied 7 years ago

You made that vest? It looks so luxe. And perfect with the dress, necklace and boots. You look stunning.

I am always impressed with your sewing abilities.  That faux fur vest is gorgeous and really compliments your hair.  I agree that burgundy is a great colour for you and for the holiday season.  Very beautiful outfit for an anniversary celebration.
