Team wear: new top and bag

Today I debuted a top that I finished a few days ago, and since I was walking to the hair salon, I broke out my new cross-body bag.

The outfit (worn for a day off): black skinny jeans (Eileen Fisher); floral lace knit top in reds, black, light olive, and ivory, with twisted seams and asymmetric hem (made by me), worn over black layering tee (Tees by Tina); black oxfords (Josef Seibel, Tina); olive jacket (Laundry by Shelli Segal); black cross-body bag with brown reptile print (Aimee Kestenberg).

When I finished the top, I wasn't sure I would wear it, but I kind of like it this way. I think it requires skinny pants, so that I can wear it tucked out. Or maybe a pencil skirt, though I rarely wear those.

Also, I'm continuing to experiment with showing a little ankle with these oxfords. I like them with these black jeans. What do you think?

Thoughts and suggestions welcome. Thanks for looking!

You look wonderful.  I really like the jeans, the shoes, and the purse.  I guess all of it.

The top is great!! Such lovely colors for you, and really on trend with a lot of the micro florals I've been seeing around. The hemline is subtle. I usually for for more dramatically asymmetrical. But that is just me -- I like drama in clothes.

And what I really love is how you paired it with skinnies and cuffed them. That just does something for me - it makes it fresh, especially pairing it with your shoes, jacket and bag choices.

    Well. Well. Done. xo

This is a great outfit!  I love seeing the stuff that you've made.

Maybe one more roll with the pants and oxfords?

  • rabbit replied 10 years ago

I like the placement of the pants roll and the skinnies with the oxfords.  What a great bag!

  • E replied 10 years ago

Oh look at that floral! Great outfit: I love the sliver of ankle. :) And what a cool jacket too.

I love your look. All it takes is a roll or two of the pants, and the outfit looks intentional, yours, and unique. I 've seen a few of your posts (I'm new to YLF) and have been slightly in awe of you and your dressmaking skills. I'm a sewer too, but not in quite a few years. It's not so common anymore to see people making clothes for themselves and yours are fabulous! You look great in this top and pants, especially cuffed - a small detail that shows you care! Looking forward to seeing all of your posts! Cheers from Canada :)

    I really like the tunic.

You know I love the top!

I absolutely love the top. You are so talented.
Those oxfords with a little ankle showing are so cute.
    Great outfit!

    Thank you, everyone!

Cinnamon fern, thanks! I think I probably tried your suggestion at least once today. I was wearing the pants rolled down at home, with socks on, because it was cold in the house. Every time I went out, I think I had a different amount of roll in the pants!

Keturah, I think it would look a little better with more angle to the hem, too. Next time! Thanks for your thoughtful and kind comments.

Lisap, welcome! I'm glad you're inspired--maybe you'll get back to sewing one day soon.

You look great! I like the top with the skinnies!! I don't think we see you a lot in skinnies these days? You wear every single style of pants so well!!! I really like the roll with the oxfords. Great bag too - it's so versatile for you.

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous top. I love the hem on that. Great fabric choice and fit as expected :) That new bag looks great with the outfit. YLF!

Lovely combination and love the flash of ankle.

  • Mona replied 10 years ago

Yes, the ankle skin makes all the difference. I really like these oxfords you. the knit top is such a happy print/colours.

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

Pretty top! I really like the rolled pants with the oxfords and love the bag.

  • Alana in Canada replied 10 years ago

    That bag is utterly amazing.
Your outfit is great! I am envying you that jacket today as we have real rain and high winds, today. It is rare enough that I don't have a proper jacket.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Terrific!! I think the rolled pants are excellent and help persuade you that you are still in summer even if the weather does not fully cooperate. Love your new top, too. As usual, Made By Me steals the show!!

Fabulous asymmetrical tunic Firecracker! I adore a floral with a black background. And the new bag is just delicious :)

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

Wow, great top!  I really like it with the rolled black jeans.  That's how I've been wearing all my jeans this summer.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

You look super duper, Sharan. Nice rolls on the jeans, and that's such a "you" bag. Divine.

Don't take this the wrong way - it's a compliment. Your new top looks pajamaesque, and is right on trend. Fab on you. xo

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

Angie, that's a new one on me--pajamaesque! I just had to laugh. But of course I'll take it as a compliment.
Alana, lucky you, that you don't need a rain jacket too often. I have a closet that is practically bursting with them. Ha ha!

  • Debora replied 10 years ago

You never cease to amaze me with your sewing skills. The new top is fabulous, and I'm sure it wasn't easy to sew with it's twisted seams and asymmetric hem. Well done! The flash of ankle is a great touch, too. Love this whole look on you.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Fantastic tunic, it looks great just how you're wearing it.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Go Team Pajamaesque. There are many on this forum rocking the pajama trend. You included. xo
