Shopping a trunk sale at a local boutique

Seattle boutique Sandy Lew had a trunk sale this week with designers from NY77 on hand to show their wares. I went today and came home with three pieces.
Here are the dressing room pics and some try-ons I did at home.

Textured, matelassé reversible coat. Reverses from muted jacquard stripes in olive, chartreuse, rust, and mauve to black.
1-3: in dressing room
4-5: with reptile print dress (AllSaints) and olive distressed suede boots (Donald Pliner)

Black knit pants with zippered pocket, elastic waist, ribbing halfway around ankle, and seams down the back legs. These feel like sweat pants but have a polished casual look. I didn't do try-ons at home.
6: dressing room pic

Arty boyfriend blazer. Cotton lightweight canvas fabric, dyed with subtle streaks of brown and gray on the dark charcoal/off-black background, and an abstract wide streak of light gray running vertically from shoulder to hem on the right side. I tried it a lot of ways at home, and it's a little tricker to style than I thought it would be.
7-8: dressing room pics (last two with the black zip-pocket pants)
9: w/ light gray mock turtleneck sweater and medium-dark wash jeans (Paige)
10: w/ ikat-patterned gray, black, white, and taupe tee (made by me) and black wash denim lantern pants (OSKA)
11: w/ medium gray ribbed turtleneck (Banana Republic) and dark wash straight jeans (G-Star)
12: w/ off-white cargo jeans and dark abstract patterned tee (both AllSaints)
13: w/ earthy wavy abstract stripe tee (made by me) and blush wash cropped straight jeans (AllSaints)
14: w/ reptile print dress (AllSaints)

Both the coat and the blazer are statements, and I can see wearing them over relatively simple outfits with less going on than a lot of what I've tried here. I was trying to push the boundaries and see how far I could go with them.

Oh, and what I wore shopping (inspired by Angie's post Outfit Formula: Very Berry and Plum).
15-17: Plummy brown herringbone cotton lantern pants (OSKA); gray, brown, and plum abstract patterned mesh tee (I forget the brand, but it's from Sandy Lew); burgundy wool cardigan (Vince); navy quilted coat (Lauren Ralph Lauren); brown leather lace-up booties (Jo Ghost); black and dark brown leopard print backpack (AllSaints).

Any thoughts are welcome!

What fantastic pieces! That coat is beyond awesome. So chic and unique. The palette is so you!  Pants and blazer both have such interesting details--definitely elevated basics. I can see how these will fit seamlessly into your wardrobe! Thanks for sharing! It's always a treat to see your style!!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 3 months ago

    Thanks, Kelly!

That is an amazing coat. So many pretty colors in it to work with, and how fun that it is reversible too. What a great piece!

The black knit pants sound very comfy and the side zipper pocket is a neat feature. I do appreciate an elevated casual pant.

It doesn't look like you struggled to style that blazer to me. Every outfit you have here is stellar with it. That's another fun piece!

Those lantern pants are amazing, and a great color. The brown pairs really nice with the plum. And aren't Vince sweaters just so good? They are always so soft and warm.

You have an eye for interesting pieces and you style them beautifully. Everything looks like they fit in seamlessly with your wardrobe. Congrats on getting some stellar pieces during the trunk sale!

These are fantastic pieces! I especially love the reversible coat and the jacket. Colour me envious!

I’d love to see the coat styled on the striped side with a column of colour in one of the stripe colours underneath. (Not that you need any help with styling…)

Just lost my first reply… anyway was going to say I love the outfits with the snakeskin dress the best, so 4,5 and 14 I think? And the pants look so comfortable and should be easy to style.
I feel the blazer needs quite simple underpinnings? So I like 10, 11, 13 best. (As well as 14 as above)

Very artsy and avant-garde, I think I prefer the dark side of coat with the pattern cuffs showing # 3 and #5 but thats just me and my own conventional style. However, I can see the pattern side working well with a column of colour underneath
The joggers add a cool modern element.
Love the new blazer with the lantern pants in #7. Looks like a great statement piece for your wardrobe.

That coat!!! I love that it’s reversible. It looks great with everything you tried and I bet it will get loads of use.

As a committed dress wearer I’m surprised by how much I love the trousers you started out with. I love them with the new jacket and the original cardigan alike! They are really cool.

KILLER FABULOUS all round! You wear these new avant-garde pieces with enormous ease, elegance and grace! They fit seamlessly into your wardrobe and you’ve styled them better than a pro!

    I expected nothing less :)

    Enjoy your AMAZING new stash!!!

Thanks, Lisa. I think the black pants--if they weren't black (ha!)--would be right up your style alley! And yes, I do like my Vince sweaters; they're very soft and cozy.
Brooklyn, I think this coat would go with a lot of your wardrobe. It's more your color palette than mine. I like your idea of a column of color underneath, and I appreciate styling suggestions!
Jenni, thanks. I do like the snakeskin print dress with the coat especially. I was thinking the same thing about the blazer. My favorite outfit is the simplest one.
Dee, like you, I am more comfortable in the subtle look of the solid side of the coat. I think I will like the stripe side best with a column of color underneath. It's fun even just to have the beautiful lining.
Thanks, Cookie. The pants are some that I've had for several years, and I've worn them sometimes less and sometimes more over those years.
Angie, thank you! I must have been craving something for my arty side.

A successful day of wardrobe additions! All good choices which you will enjoy. I wonder if you would consider changing the buttons on the blazer to a dark metal, or something with more color, or maybe using the abstract pattern as a base for even more embellishments like paint or needlework? It’s striking as is, and perhaps my preference for more color prompts this idea, but worth thinking about? I know you wouldn’t want to go overboard on the handcrafted, art fair look, so maybe I’m all wrong.

Wow, fabulous! Amazing pieces and very you! Love those trousers too.

  • unfrumped replied 3 months ago

Oh, plonk! It seems this showing was made for your style and palette. Excellent choices.

  • Suz replied 3 months ago

What cool pieces! This brand seems right up your alley! Unusual and distinctive. I really like the coat and think it will be extremely versatile and should have legs in the closet. You've styled it brilliantly.

The pants look and sound really useful, too.

And the jacket is just sooo cool! I can see how styling it might be slightly more of a challenge, but 9/10 work really well to my eye, and I can imagine other great combinations. It's just so interesting that you don't need to wear it with everything, you know? You'll find it perfect at those times when you need something distinctive, and powerful, but not too fussy or too dressy.

Love your shopping outfit, too. Those trousers are fantastic on you. And so is the NAS RL coat.

  • JAileen replied 3 months ago

I just love the coat in #1.  I think it will be a great addition to your wardrobe, and I look forward to seeing your outfits with it in real life.

  • Bonnie replied 3 months ago

What a great set of outfits. Your toppers look great all the ways you've styled them. It's hard to see the pants but they look like they fit well.

  • Sal replied 3 months ago

What a great collection and happy haul. It seems it will fit so well into your closet.

  • Jaime replied 3 months ago

Oh my gosh Sharan, these pictures are so fab! I was gasping at the coat but the blazer possibly wowed me even more. I like it in 9 and 11 where the base layer is classic and the blazer shines but can see it with some of the other combinations with even more statements for a even bolder look. Thank you for the delightful inspiration!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 3 months ago

cjh, thanks for those creative ideas! I can see them all working. Maybe in the future I would try something like that. Probably not right away, but later if I get tired of it the way it is.... But along your thought of color, I was thinking a vibrant color under it would be fun. If I were a red person maybe, but a shade of wine or purple or green, or just about anything, would work, I think.
thank you, Janet, unfrumped, Bonnie, JAileen, and Sal!
Suz, you are so wise. The jacket doesn't have to go with everything--so right! Thanks for your compliment on the NAS coat, too. I'm so happy with it; it made me glad for cool enough weather to wear it this week!
Jaime, I'm happy to inspire you!

What an amazing shopping success! I love the arty boyfriend blazer. It is perfection on you! My favorite styling here is over the dress in no 14. Beautiful juxtaposition. Though my style is a bit different from yours, I would absolutely love having this blazer in my wardrobe styling it with ladylike silk blouses
The coat is also amazing - beautiful statement and the reversible feature is brilliant. Love it, it suits you beautifully.
    Great new pants too!
Your shopping outfit looks really good. You have fantastic style!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 3 months ago

Thank you, Katerina! I could see you in this blazer, for sure. You wear blazers so beautifully. I do love a reversible garment, too--I think it appeals to creativity and practicality all at once.

  • elke replied 3 months ago

Looks like a very successful shopping trip.  I love the coat and the blazer, and comfortable black pants are always useful.

  • BlueJay replied 3 months ago

Great shopping trip! I particularly love your blazer! What Angie said about your new items blending seamlessly into the clothes you have. You look fab!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 3 months ago

    Thank you, Elke and BlueJay!

  • Joy replied 3 months ago

    I love everything you got.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 3 months ago

    Thanks, Joy!

  • avicennia replied 3 months ago

Love your style. I bet you get stopped on the street with compliments. The OSKA pants are super!
