New makeup: before and after

Inspired by Xtabay's post with before and after photos of her new makeup from MAC, I decided to record my before and after looks with my new makeup from the Chanel counter today. I am surprised at how little difference I see between my photos; my glasses seem to hide my eyes quite a bit. (This is my first attempt at cell phone selfies, too, so I'm sure the photo quality is skewing my results. I'm hoping, anyway.) I bought new eye makeup, foundation, blush, and lipstick for summer.

Photo 1: before makeup
Photo 2: after makeup
Photo 3: after makeup, without glasses
Photo 4: what I wore shopping--black frayed-hem skinny jeans (Mother, the Looker, in blackbird wash); mauve flounce-hem sweater (Tempo Paris); pewter lace-up Mary Janes (Trippen); glassy pendant with moonstone center, and matching earrings (Kendra Scott). Not shown: taupe raincoat Ritva Falla, light gray backpack (Rebecca Minkoff).

Thanks for looking! Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

I like the way it is quite soft and subtle, especially for warmer weather and the brighter light of Summer.
    The lips especially look lovely!

Wow, makeup looks great! I have seen your eyes and know what an amazing color they are... Bet this brings them right out.

  • kellygirl replied 7 years ago

Love the eyes! The liner and lid color really make your eyes pop. So pretty. The ruffle hem top is just beautiful too. YLF! (You guys are making me want to do a make over!)

You look great in pic 3, and I love all of your selections. They seem to be made for you.

I can see the difference. Your eyes are more defined in the after photo, even with your glasses on.   Very nice.

  • Brooklyn replied 7 years ago

I agree with Deb. I can definitely see more eye emphasis. Subtle but very nice. Love your outfit too.

The eye makeup and lippie really add some sparkle. I think you look very polished with the makeup. I can definitely tell the difference, but it's not overdone.

It's nice! Kind of a natural you but more Chanel elegant type look. Pretty!

Elegant and polished!  The colors are so soft and pretty.  Take those fab lips out on the town!  Your eyebrows are so well-shaped, and the color is beautiful.  (I'm kind of late to the eyebrow game, but I'm learning fast.  I just had them threaded for the first time to get them a better shape and arch.  All I can say is ow, ow, ow, ow, ow!)

The difference is subtle (the way i prefer my make up, too) but they've hightlighted your pretty blue eyes beautifully.
On a side note, it is odd the way glasses hide the eyes. I worked with a gal who "hid" a black eye (accident) by wearing glasses and it really was less noticeable with them on.

Gorgeous make-up to match a gorgeous lady. Your outfit is Killer too. Very "Sharan".

I can totally see the difference! Very soft and lovely. I really like the lipstick on you. Everything is very natural and feminine. Great job on your first attempt at the cell phone selfie too - something I cannot do!

Thanks, everyone! New makeup is fun. Next up is a hair trim this week, a bit overdue.

This looks really good for summer when deeper colors would be too much.
I have kept a couple of lipsticks I swear seem too pale if I just check on them randomly, because, voila, when it gets to be high summer they DO look more/ enough in the changed light.
You're reminding me I need to do a makeup review and edit!

  • kerlyn replied 7 years ago

Really pretty, Sharan.  Your eyes look lovely with that little bit of extra definition.

Lovely! I'm sure it shows up more IRL...as I commented in Viva's post, photos eat makeup. Stage makeup looks normal, normal makeup looks minimal.

I'm jealous you can still wear sweaters. Guess I'm not jealous of the raincoat though!

I see the difference too - natural eye make up that looks good in a photo  is a win in my book  :)

  • RobinF replied 7 years ago

Subtle but very nice. LOVE that raincoat!

  • Jaime replied 7 years ago

Your eyes pop with the new makeup and the overall effect is subtle, which is pretty much the best result. Love everything you are wearing too!

  • Karie replied 7 years ago

It's a subtle difference but a beautiful one. Your eyes look more defined, soft and pretty. Very nice!

  • Lucy replied 7 years ago

I think the  new look is lovely! It is subtle - it doesn't scream "hey I've just had my face done" - but very pretty and soft.

  • AJ replied 7 years ago

I can see a difference.  You look lovely!

  • rachylou replied 7 years ago

I like it. You do look very different with it. I can't wear Chanel because of the perfume.

  • Summer replied 7 years ago

My first thought was "subtle but beautiful", and I see others agree.
Your eyes and lips are enhanced, but still very natural - lovely!
I feel a makeover of my own may be on the cards.

  • Tanya replied 7 years ago

The new make-up is gorgeous, your beautiful eyes really sparkle in it.  Fun outfit too, love the flounce-hem top.

  • replied 7 years ago

Ohhh, I think your make up looks lovely. Your eyes are subtly enhanced and look so pretty and I over the soft lipstick shade. I think you look great! Fabulous outfit too.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

What Caro said. It is soft and natural looking but adds emphasis. Very nice.

  • JAileen replied 7 years ago

Very pretty. When I wore glasses I wore mascara because my eyes seemed to disappear.

  • Style Fan replied 7 years ago

I can see the difference.  Gorgeous.  The eye make up defines your eyes but is not overdone.  I love the colour of your lipstick.
Great outfit.  Comfy for a make over.  Love the Trippens.
I have never tried Chanel make up.  Probably because of the perfume.  Looks good.

  • Beth replied 7 years ago

Oh, I see the difference. You have that bit of extra polish and your eyes really stand out. I don't see the makeup first; instead I see your beautiful features.

  • replied 7 years ago

Did you wear your new look today?  I'll bet you got a bunch of compliments!

  • Nishaa replied 7 years ago

It looks like the no make up make up and polished.. I love it..

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

    Thanks, all!

Xtabay, I did wear it yesterday and today, and I got a compliment from a coworker. I will say I don't think I'm doing as good a job at applying the eye makeup as the artist did. (Duh--she does it for a living.) I hope I'll get better at it.

  • catgirl replied 7 years ago

As far as glasses, they are an issue with makeup proportion - but both you and I basically use our funky glasses as makeup, which is kind of nice too! And BTW the glasses you all picked for me are my most used fave pair and get comments all the time!

  • replied 7 years ago

Firecracker, I know what you mean about the eye makeup.  I might need another lesson on that!  Rembrandt I'm not.
