Found: summer uniform, featuring jorts, shorts, & blazers

While shopping last week, I came upon an outfit formula that I really like: long shorts or jorts, tee, and blazer. I think it may become my summer uniform. I've always gravitated toward shorts in the summer, but I've struggled to feel very put-together in them. I know the blazer won't be great for the hottest of days, but I can switch to a breezy dress then. For most Seattle summer days that are warm enough to bare skin, this formula should work.

Here are some try-ons I did today with some recent purchases, and others that I've had for a while. I've just bought a couple of light neutral blazers at Evereve, one a stretch-linen ivory with black pinstripe and the other a knit in gray-tinted oatmeal. Like the two off-white-ish faux leather jackets I bought recently, I liked both of these blazers, and I decided they are different enough to justify keeping both. The knit one is a 3-season piece for Seattle. The linen one is very summery.

This week, I'm headed to the East Coast for a few days, and I may encounter a day or two of shorts weather. I will pack the Pilcro jorts, along with the AllSaints blazer. I'm excited to finally get some more wear out of this blazer, which I love but haven't worn much. (I'm planning to wear the blazer and matching pants on the plane.)

Photos 1-7: Pilcro jorts (Myra Low-Rise Carpenter Jeans), with different blazers, tees and footwear.
Photos 8-11: AGolde cutoffs (90's Shorts, Ruin wash).
Photo 12: black bermuda shorts (Vince).
Photos 13-14: dark wash jeans shorts (Madewell, Bermuda Jean Shorts, Deardorff wash).
Photo 15: light wash jeans shorts (Madewell, Baggy Jean Shorts).
Photos 16: shopping outfit, cream jeans (Paige, Cindy Straight-Leg with zip pockets); dark rose tee (Kit & Ace, Soho); dark rose cardigan (made by me); cream cross-body handbag (Minor History); cream & animal print sneakers; blush belt (AllSaints).

Blazers
Olive knit (AllSaints, Aleida Lightweight Tri Blazer)
Ivory pinstripe stretch linen (Evereve, Taylor Pinstripe Blazer)
Oatmeal knit (Faherty, Inlet
not shown, but a possible part of summer outfit formula: arty boyfriend blazer in cotton canvas (NY77)

Tees
Graphic tee (Madewell x Kit Agar, Oversized Tee); dark patterned tee (AllSaints, Caladesi Anna Tee); black & taupe striped tee (Evereve, Emily Striped Tank in neutral)

Footwear
Cream & neutral snakeprint sneakers (Cole Haan, Grand Pro Topspin); taupe and black animal print loafers (Paul Green, Belinda Pointed Toe Loafer); cream casual loafers (27 Edit, Helen Chain Loafer); olive gray & brown half-d'Orsay peeptoe shoes (Cydwoq, Costa).

After last summer, I thought I might pass on the Madewell shorts. They are very wide-legged, and they had gotten kind of big. They are fitting better now, and I think the addition of a blazer helps the look a lot, so they may stay with me for another summer.

I envision wearing other sandals, other tees, etc., too. I have ordered a pair of off-white denim shorts from Evereve, by Ba&sh, which I'm hopeful will work out.
I'm interested to hear your thoughts!

A wonderful summer uniform - I particularly love Pilcro jorts on you. You have such elegant style.

If anything would tempt me to try this trend, it’s your inspired styling Firecracker

    Winner winner chicken dinner!

Jorts, a blazer, and a graphic tee is going to be an excellent summer formula for you.

I can’t even pick a favorite these are all stellar!

Bravo for a successful planning session.

Your rose colors with ivory shopping outfit is stellar too.

You are in your style groove and it’s fabulous!

My total, total fave is pic 4- All Saints blazer, Madewell tee, and olive sandals. Looks so cohesive. I find denim shorts too heavy in our summer- or think I would, not sure if I have ever worn them?! My shorts are linen blend but more casual than these outfits.

  • Dee replied 7 months ago

Oh I hope the weather out east is going to be nice for you, and it looks like you have a winning formula to wear if it is. All very cohesive and pull together, with a nice of array of casual to smart casual. Lovely travel outfit too

Ha -this weekend I was thinking about how in 20s wearing a blazer and shorts just seemed so “easy” and natural, and wondering if I could pull it off now 40 years later.   You’ve definitely done it, and made it look good

I agree with JenniNZ, #4 is my fav.  Love the proportions and the way the colors in the blazer, shoes and tee work together

This is such a great concept! I love all the iterations with the jorts. The proportions look superb to my eye. With the shorter bermudas, I generally prefer the lighter combinations.
You look enviably tall and elegant. How tall are you Sharan? I wonder if this concept would work with my hobbit self? hmmm....

  • Staysfit replied 7 months ago

Bravo!  I love these outfits. I love the jorts with blazer version.  Nice proportions and perfect layering for going from warm air to air conditioning,  I ordered jorts and am looking forward to trying out some outfits,  these looks are inspiring.

Sharan, I hereby crown you our second Queen Jorts! (Wave to Jaime, who is our first).

You look AMAZING!!! KILLER fab all round, and rocking your new jorts formula like it was made for you :)

    LOVE the twinset in #16!

LOVE the extra long Pilcro shorts! #4 and #7 are my faves. Just. So. PERFECT!!

Your hair grew back to a bob quickly too. Looking super cute!

  • Suz replied 7 months ago

What a great set of interpretations. I love how the blazer dresses up the tees and jorts and how the jorts make a simple blazer and tee look entirely fresh and new! I hope you get great weather to try out as many of these combinations as you like!

The Pilcros are amazing on you but I like them all!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 months ago

    Thanks, everyone!
Dee, I'm seeing some irony in the forecast. I'll be leaving the best weather we've had this year in Seattle and heading toward rain on the East Coast. haha!
kkards, how funny! I've never worn shorts and a blazer before.
bella, I'm a little over 5'4." I'm sure you can rock the look.
Angie, I'm honored to join Jaime in the jorts royal family.

Fantastic formula! Unique and very cool. Your pieces mix and match well. Your jorts are great on you. I love the muted, arty palette.

  • Star (Lise) replied 7 months ago

Jorts totally work for you. The dark wash are my favourite.

  • JAileen replied 7 months ago

I really like your jorts - nice length, nice color, good fit.

  • Helena replied 7 months ago

Woohoo you've nailed this style! Looks great on you!!

  • Carol replied 7 months ago

A winner formula! I love your combos. I think that is a very original take on jorts--jorts and a blazer.  I remember years ago, I saw a YouTuber who wore a blazer with the more traditional, fitted Bermuda shorts. I will always remember that.

  • Jaime replied 7 months ago

I couldn't be more pleased to be your co-Queen Sharan! Your jorts outfits are amazing. I especially love the architectural shape of the first pair, but you wear all the lengths and widths beautifully. We are far beyond jacket weather here, but I will still be using this as inspiration.

  • Sal replied 7 months ago

Wow these look awesome.  Well done on experimenting - and finding a new way to wear an existing piece.

  • Brooklyn replied 7 months ago

I think it’s a great formula. You look terrific. I always think about blazer and shorts because I think it looks cool and unexpected. But summer here is just soooo hot and humid. I’ve only just started wearing jackets this week (one week before winter). I can see if your summer is milder or drizzly, it will really work.

  • lyn67 replied 7 months ago

Thank you for the ample visuals, Sharan! It seems you really got is, jorts are made for You! The Pilcros are really a fab and seem like a current cut, love all the outfits made with them. I also love how you styled the   light wash jeans short in

nr 15.  Shopping outfit is perfect, too.

  • Bonnie replied 7 months ago

This formula looks great on you! My favorite combo is #4.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 months ago

Thanks, everyone, for your encouragement! I did get to wear the jorts on my trip. I ended up wearing them with the graphic tee and a lightweight knit poncho, rather than the blazer. That was a fun combo, too.
Jaime and Brooklyn, I can imagine how any jacket would be too hot in your summers. My formula is definitely for milder summer days.
lyn67, thanks for chiming in--it's good to hear from you!

  • Kyle replied 7 months ago

I love seeing your posts, Sharan. You have a great wardrobe and a good eye for styling. Plus, you are not afraid to try different trends or new things. Not surprisingly, you wear these very well. I can imagine them with the light poncho, too!

  • Karie replied 7 months ago

I love your jorts and blazer combinations, and of course your white jeans and me made sweater outfit is fabulous!
