Found? Spring raincoat

I posted here about whether to look for a replacement for my torn blush trench coat. Taking in the wise comments you all offered, I thought about what I really need and want. I decided I could forego a new coat and get along just fine. But I also am in the mood for something new, if the right one came along. And the right one would be a pretty shade of blush again--I still really like that color and want to continue wearing it this spring and summer. Or another color that strikes my fancy--I'm not opposed to something different, if I'm really drawn to it. And I would like something that is sporty, rather than classic--so not another trench.

I think the Sosken Honor rain jacket may be the winner. It was love at first try-on when it arrived. I love the color, the updated, oversized fit, the fabric (which is like a tech fabric, but really nice quality).

I waited to try the Zella Cinch Me parka, which arrived today. I tried it despite the color, which didn't thrill me in the online photos. I thought it might look chic in person. But it's too silver for me, and the fabric is more like a typical rubberized slicker. It's a great value, just not quite what I wanted.

In case it's of any use to others, I was disappointed by fit of the Kristen Blake Tech hooded trench coat that I ordered; the color was lovely, and the coat is beautifully made. But while the coat fit across the shoulders, it was too narrow at the hip for me. I didn't take photos.

So I thought I'd share photos of the Sosken and Zella coats, just fyi. And in case you want to try to talk me off the ledge with the Sosken, which is a big investment for a lightweight coat. I do tend to hang on to these things for a long time, so I think I can justify it. Plus, I wanted to show you my most recent (and final, for this season!!) addition to my sneaker capsule, and a new bag I made.

Photos 1-3: Blush rain coat (Sosken Honor rain jacket), new blush-silver slip-on sneakers (Mephisto Korie); pastel Pendleton stripe bag with blush snake print pleather (made by me).

Photos 4-6: Silver rain coat (Zella Cinch Me parka), same shoes and bag as above.

Thanks for looking, and I welcome your thoughts!

I love this on you! Similar vibe to the Ilse Jacobsen, that I liked in your first post. The bag is fab- in awe of your sewing skills.

That’s a funky and cool looking coat! And a great color. It says “water repellent”. Is that good enough for Seattle?

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 5 years ago

Thanks, Kathie and JAileen. Yes, it is enough water resistance for Seattle. If it's pouring, I use an umbrella, and I don't ride my town bike in real rain.

Big thumbs up for 1-3. The shoes look great with both coats.. Drooling over your bag!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 5 years ago

    Thanks, Joy!

That is a lovely bag! Great sneaks too.

I really like the pink in 1 to 3. I love the colour and the shape, especially to the back.

On the silver, I like the front but the back goes up too high, still, it is good to see and unless you try, you never know.

I love the colour of this coat - it has a bit of depth to it, and so is beautiful with your colouring and a great match with the shoes. Your bag is sensational!

I am glad you tried the coat, because the review on Norstrom would likely have put me off. This looks like a stylish replacement for your old blush coat.

The colour is lovely and the shape is interesting - but it does look to be a little large (I'm looking at fit of shoulder seams and arm length.). Can you try a size down? I know you are quite petite, and might be at the bottom of the size range...

I really really like it. The fabric looks nice, even in these photos.
It is also such a practical thing to have.
I love the design with the large pockets and drop shoulder.
    I also like the drawstring.
    Yes yes yes!!

Great color for you! I also like the silver on you but the fabric would put me off too.

The pink Sosken is SOOO YOU, Sharan. KILLER.

  • Janet replied 4 years ago

I love the silver one, honestly, but that may also be my love of silver speaking. The pink looks a little big to me, even for an oversized coat, but I seem to be in the minority here. If you love it, enjoy!

  • replied 4 years ago

It definitely looks big to me, but if you love it Keep It :) Love your bag!

  • ChristelJ replied 4 years ago

I think the pink coat is gorgeous, and it being slightly oversized doesn't bother me. Great shoes and beautiful bag, too.

  • kkards replied 4 years ago

Omg blush coat for the win!

  • Suzanne replied 4 years ago

Those shoes are pretty great with the pink coat!

  • unfrumped replied 4 years ago

I do love the blush pink and prefer it to the silver, which I think is pretty but is just too much metallic. Wondering about size also but sometimes looks/ drapes differently in motion and for layering.

  • Roxanna replied 4 years ago

I love the blush with your skin tone! But I al so think maybe try a size down?

Also - love those shoes on you!

  • Sal replied 4 years ago

I love the blush coat - great style and colour. I do wonder about the size a bit though?

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 4 years ago

Hi all, and thanks for the feedback!
It seems the main reservation is size on the blush coat. It only comes in two sizes, and this is the smallest. The shoulder seams are very dropped, and the sleeves don't feel too long to me. I do see what you mean about it looking big, and I realize it does not flatter me in the conventional sense of looking slimming. And I think my photography also leaves something to be desired in that regard. But I will think about whether it is too oversized. I don't want to look ridiculous. Or maybe not too ridiculous--haha! Thanks for humoring me, too!

I wanted to show you all the silver coat, partly because I think it is awfully cute, too. I'm just more into subdued metallics, so it's not the one for me.

  • unfrumped replied 4 years ago

I hear you on subdued metallics.

This winter I came across a short puffer in a full-on shiny silver metallic. On sale, my size so I tried it on thinking, maybe— what the heck. No bueno. I wondered at first if I were just too “ chicken, ” but the mirror told me the foil- silver was just wrong for my coloring. It “ outshone” me. Whereas on the right person it would be fab.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 4 years ago

Yes, I can imagine, unfrumped. I think this Zella coat did a little of that with me, even though it's not slick-shiny.

  • Jaime replied 4 years ago

That is just the one for you (the first one I mean). Worth it is your rainy part of the world. And nice MBM bag too! Even with my silverish hair I often feel like silver wears me, and my silver pieces don't get out much. I wonder if you feel the same.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 4 years ago

Yes, Jaime, and I think grays are less silvery looking than yours.

  • Brooklyn replied 4 years ago

It’s a great colour FC, I like it on you. I like the silver too but I agree the pink suits you better.

  • taylor replied 4 years ago

    Nice choice!
I like metallics too, ... but in smaller bites:)
