Culottes & Cocoon Coat

I was inspired by Angie's culottes & cocoon coat ensemble to get out my cropped wide-leg jeans, which have been in hibernation since last fall. I also had a new cocoon coat that I made, to try with them. So here's my attempt at this outfit idea. My cocoon coat is more of an indoor topper, or a very mild weather jacket, so this outfit won't get worn for a while yet.
The outfit: Charcoal scuba knit cocoon coat (made by me); charcoal and multi-color floral silk peasant blouse (made by me); cropped wide-leg dark wash jeans (Loft); black booties (Steve Madden); silver chain-strap shoulder bag (Michael Kors).

Oh, and what I actually wore today (photos 3-4):
Boyfriend jeans (CoH, Emerson); teal long-sleeved tee (Caslon); ivory boiled wool vest with vintage buttons (made by me); brown lace-up booties (Jo Ghost).

Thanks for looking! I welcome any suggestions or thoughts you may have.

I like both of these, the volume works in both looks.  The cocoon coat looks lovely, and I hope you get to wear it soon.

Wow ! Love both outfits! So nice to see your photos again . I love the idea of a scuba knit cocoon coat - what a perfect weight for a coat like this and it makes layering a whole lot easier . The ivory vest is a stunner too !

Thanks, Sally--I'm glad you like the volume. These are both easy to wear.
Lisa, thanks for your comment. I like the scuba fabric even better than I expected. It feels really nice on--weighty, with a nice drape. You are right about the ease of layering under and probably even over it.

Both the coat and jacket are fabulous in themselves and in their respective outfits! I feel like your hair has gotten a lot longer since last we saw you - I like it!

    KILLER x2, you gorgeous creature.

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Both outfits are stunning but the best was made by you. You wear these silhouettes and volume so well.

Thanks, Shevia and Angie! Yes, my hair has grown a lot this past year. I can even wear it up now!

    Thank you, Joy!

The culottes look is spot on. Very inspiring! I like your "today" look too. Love the layering.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

    Aw, thanks, Brooklyn!

I love everything! May I just say that you are looking more and more stylish every time I see you post.

Rock out! You totally own this formula, Firecracker!!

Picture 1 belongs in a fashion magazine somewhere. This look on you is beautiful yet fashion forward.

Both looks are gorgeous on you.  Perfect proportions for the culottes and cocoon look.  I love your hair.  So nice to see you.

One of the great things about being back on YLF, Sharan, is seeing you and your style! It's a sort of impeccable urchin arty, and I adore it. Your "today" outfit is something I could see myself in (and I want those booties!!!) - and your cocoon coat outfit is really stunning.

Love proportions of your coat over culottes.

These seem very you. I especially like the topper you made in outfit 2.

  • Mirjana replied 7 years ago

Wow! Love both outfits, cocoon coat is fantastic, I like the bag, you really look wonderful on both outfits.

I am impressed by your sewing skills (where do you find good patterns?). Love both of these outfits but the white vest is gorgeous.

  • JAileen replied 7 years ago

    I love both outfits. YLF!

    Great outfits on you!

You have the most amazing sense of style (and sewing talent!) and really know what suits you!  I always love to see your outfits.
PS  You really ought to market that scuba coat - I would snap one up in a heartbeat!  Would be so useful for a Southern winter.

I love these looks.  You are killing it!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

Wow, you all make my day.
Bella, that is so kind of you!
    Ledonna, a fashion magazine--how sweet!
Style Fan, thank you; lately I've been wondering about the hair length, but I'm enjoying it long and want it to work.
Viv, "urchin arty"--I like that! I appreciate your comments. Even as a verbal person, I feel at a loss to describe my own style.
Anchie, I'm glad the proportions look good to you--thanks!
RobinF, thank you. Both of these patterns are from The Sewing Workshop. I really like the styles of this pattern line, and the instructions are the best.
Ryce, that is so nice. I bet the scuba coat would be right for a southern winter. It's not that hard to make, but I don't see myself going into production anytime soon--ha ha!
Rachylou, delurked, Mirjana, JAileen, lpr2000, Xtabay, thank you all for chiming in!

Um, WOW! Absolutely adore #1. Just gorgeous on you!!!

    Thank you, Suz!

I bow down to the "made by me" part of these ensembles!  I'm always blown away by the creations of the Fabbers who sew.

Really like the silhouette of the culottes outfit.

  • Lisa replied 7 years ago

Did you say you made that coat?  Wow, that's awesome, you are very talented.  Both outfits are fun, very "of the moment" vibe to them.

  • Jenn replied 7 years ago

I like the cocoon coat outfit, but I adore the casual vibe of the second one. I'm totally gaga over those brown boots, too.

  • tulle replied 7 years ago

I must say I thought the culottes/cocoon combo was one of Angie's more challenging suggestions--not one I would be inclined to try--but when I saw your post I knew you would nail it, and you have.  Love both outfits on you.
